Re: taping disable pin in r32 mini pcie slot
I was looking at installing a 3rd party wifi card. I looked at the page with the the zender bioses but it mentions about taping pin. Can anybody specify the instructions?? It's pin #21. Lay down a small piece of electrical tape and trim off the excess tape from covering the other pins and you shoul...

Re: Removing scratches from an R-series lid...
I was actually thinking of scuffing all the plastics and giving them a Dura-Coat finish.

Re: Hows Ubuntu 10.04 run on a thinkpad t40?
...What I would avoid is watching HD videos in Youtube or alike... 2GB of RAM will solve that problem. My wife and I even watch movies (AVI/DVD) with no problem on our Thinkpads (in sig below). I DID add aluminum heatsinks where those tin sheets used to be which also helped with temperature control...

Re: Hows Ubuntu 10.04 run on a thinkpad t40?
Just as long as you have the RAM maxed out, you will have no issues with even GNOME on your T40 just as long as you trim down the 'effects' settings. 10.04LTS is as very good and stable release. After install, be sure to download the 'Thinkpad' packages in the package manager program (OSD and volume...

Re: SSD in R40
I was thinking of Solid State as well. Using some of the smaller Linux Distros on a USB flash drive is the fastest I've tested yet (Many different flavors both MS and Open Source, Hell I have even booted Snow Leopard on my R40).

Re: Looking for Pinout/Info for Port Replicator (Using a R40)
How about a dock for the cost of shipping?? I have an extra and soon to be two. That sounds great. What model is it? ThinkWiki says some docks are incompatible with the R40. I was actually thinking of getting a Dock anyway for one of the other R40s I have. PM your PP details and I'll see what's in ...

Re: usb transplant
I had to do this recently on my R40. Take your time and use a 'solder sucker' instead of the copper braid tape. Don't overheat the pins and work quickly between the iron and vacuum.

Looking for Pinout/Info for Port Replicator (Using a R40)
Hello, I am a long-time user of my R40 and I love it and have done a lot to her since I first got her. After finding where the Data- and Data+ for the Port Replicator, I added an internal USB hub in the area between the battery and front edge of the case (for webcam in location of thinklight and oth...
