Re: Single Disk NAS vs Multi Disk NAS vs USB HDD

The Buffalo NAS (single bay unit) arrived and I got it set up. What a PITA to get the private folders set up. First, my winblows id has a space in it, Yes, windows accepts it, but then nothing else will, so getting a private share set up and getting access to it is the biggest pain. Then there is an...

Re: LF: Full Size A31p Docking Station

I mainly want it for the extra drive bay and USB ports too. But, I have enough video cards around here from my former flight sim computers that I may pop one in if I have one that is compatible. I have like NO video cards. Well, one, an ancient Matrox Millenium II in this old tower box that I haven...

Re: LF: Full Size A31p Docking Station

The main reason I opted for the dock and then Dock II (and later still the Advanced dock) was to have 3 HDDs or 2 HDDs and an optical drive in the system. I read about all the graphics card limitations and said to myself fugetaboutit. The extra USB ports also came in very handy.

^^ Different Router. That explains it. Mine is a NVG468MQ. These ones provisioned by Frontier FIOS have disabled the USB port for anything except the TV connection or charging a phone / tablet. I've been trying to get them on the phone to clarify, but no such luck. Its a nice waste of a superspeed U...

Re: Single Disk NAS vs Multi Disk NAS vs USB HDD

My ASUS RT-AC68U router has two USB ports. I have a printer and a 2TB Toshiba Canvio HDD attached to them. I can send/retrieve data to/from that HDD via wifi. It's not the fastest, but I don't care. So far (3 years by now) it has never failed me. It only comes on when you access it and goes back to...

That dock looks interesting but it isn't Ethernet connected. I need at least one hi capacity NAS that All the computers can see at once. It helps with transferring or syncing files.

Or use a hirens boot CD Ultimate CD, etc., boot it and wipe the drive.

Acronis True Image has an "add new disk to system" function which essentially deletes all partitions and clears the MBR as well.

Re: LF/WTB 9 cell battery & 2x 4gb DDR2 ram for T601

If I am correct, the T601 Frankenpad uses batts from the T60, T61 and T/W500. They should be ease to find. I have a few extra myself. There is a difference in the batts between the 14" WS and the 14" STD & 15" WS I need to know your MTM from the bottom. of the system. And also please describe what t...

Re: Single Disk NAS vs Multi Disk NAS vs USB HDD

Thanks for the sanity check. To be fair to that old Seagate, it was not a true RAID controller. It was a single disk enclosure with no RAID capability, which requires two or more disks. In any event, I'm going to look a both an enclosure with a disk and one without, but still, both single disk units.

Single Disk NAS vs Multi Disk NAS vs USB HDD

OK, I'll try not to be too boring here. I have two single disk NAS: One an older WD Mybook Live (yeah that old) 2TB. It's from circa 2013-14. It is still working. The second is a seagate Central 4TB from Dec 2015. I have 5 USB HDDs (Toshiba, WD, Seagate) from 2-5GB they are spread out among differen...

GPU temp 55 isn't that hot. You can get a small tube of thermal paste for a few dollars. Connect the main and secondary antenna wires to the Wifi card. Tape, you can try scotch tape, or a hi temp tape. Do not use duct tape or even electrical tape because they get gummed up when too hot, especially d...

My 10 4GB DDR2s are all in use but I have nearly 30 1GB / 2GB modules. About half are in use in the T61s that are not in active use.

Go ahead and get the HMM as noted by Mikal. Use it as a reference while you do the following: Get some quality thermal paste, like arctic silver 5, etc. Disassemble to get at the heatsink / fan, remove it. Clean the fan and CPU & GPU areas where they meet Apply the new thermal paste, not too much Re...

Yeah, they seem to be going fast.

Seems no one in the US has any for sale - probably because all the US buyers bought them to upgrade their machines and not to sell.

Correct. The Dock II has 4 USBs (probably 1.1 speed though), its own power supply, an Ultrabay 2000 bay and the capacity to accept a half height (or half length, not sure which) PCI graphics card, two cardbus slots, plus just about all the legacy ports, including the funky IBM floppy drive cable con...

Re: Just missed the TP forums and discussions.. been few years since my last TP went sticky kaput

I'm not sure about the RAM costs. I recently bought four 4GB DDR2 PC2-6400 for the same or less than what I paid a few years ago. Hynix modules. Well the cheapest one I can find on eBay is like C$55 and that is only a one off deal. The rest of them are all question marks from China. Compare that wi...

Look for genuine ThinkPad T420 battery and you will fined a few on fleabay.

The charged battery requirement goes way back. You Must have a battery and it Must be charged to flash the BIOS on a ThinkPad. And I'd do it on a UPS backed outlet.
