Re: Thinkpad for computer science major

I don't have a T460P, but you can read a review here: Also, the cooling system is not the best, but the machine would probably still be adequate for your needs. Perhaps someone who has one can chime in? I have a Yoga 460 and a Yoga 14 (bestbuy version of 460) Yoga 460: i7-6500U, 16GB, 512GB SSD, WQ...

Re: Charge Circuit - Physical location of TPC8203 on mb

Bleh.. replaced the FET, still got the problem, so by process of elimination, the problem is the controller chip - the adp3805. Annoyingly, its a different version to the one used on T30, so I don't have a convenient spare.. which means I'll continue to live with no battery-charging on the T41 (its ...

Re: Charge Circuit - Physical location of TPC8203 on mb

After tracing the board I found that the fet used on a t40 is a FDS6990A (Q4) (not a TPC8203), located on the underside of the m/b near the L5 inductor .... maybe this will help others billy 8) Thanks! (a few years later, it did indeed help someone :D) My T41 has the not-charging problem. All fuses...

Re: thinkpad t41 win8 problem

Those Pentium M Dothan chips that support PAE were installed in T43 machines, and I don't think they will work in earlier T4x machines. Most 400MHz Dothan chips such as in the T42 did not support PAE, and the T41 machines were sold with Banias chips, non of which would support PAE. Thanks Neil. It ...

Re: thinkpad t41

Here are the Windows 8 system requirements from Microsoft: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/system-requirements The CPU in a T41 does not meet the first requirement. It does not support PAE. Interesting.. I just installed Windows 8 on my T61P and like it; performance is much better than...

Re: x201s seems very rare.. worth considering x301?

x201s is proving to be even harder to find than I thought. I guess I'm not the only thinkpad fan who can't find anything as good as that hardware combo available in the newer line-up. I've just expanded my hunt to include T420 models (not T420s) with the HD+ (1600x900) display and i7 cpu - odds are ...

Re: x201s seems very rare.. worth considering x301?

In terms of speed, the i Core Arrandale Low Voltage CPU is where the X201s shines above the X301 with the Penryn low voltage CPU, especially when you do some computation heavier stuff like doing media encoding, cpu heavy simulation (i am assuming you are getting the i5 or i7 model X201s). In terms ...

x201s seems very rare.. worth considering x301?

I'm on the lookout for a used x201s - but they seem to be incredibly rare? I'm still using my T61p (with WUXGA+ - I like tiny text!), but its getting old (warranty expired July '12), and my needs have changed a bit, so I'm looking for something more easily portable. My replacement: Must be a thinkpa...

Re: T61 random shutdown

I've got this random suspend problem too on my T7300 T61p with 15" WUXGA screen. It does indeed appear to be heat related. For those with the same issue - go download "TPFanControl" - it gives you temperature readouts of everything (CPU/GPU/Mainboard/etc.)as well as manual control over the fans. As...
