Re: X61: actual heat measurements... and remedies (revised)
if you're using windows 7 (or possibly vista), go into the computer's power settings and change the wireless adapter settings to medium or maximum power savings. i felt like this helped a lot with heat issues. you can also go into device manager and reduce the transmit power of the wireless adapter.

Re: X61 tablet SXGA+ bubble timeline?
It would seem temperature makes this stuff move. I have a few of these with SXGA+ screens and some completely randomly start bubbling. they all sit in a storage tote indoors unused so there's not really any heat, and three have developed a lot of bubbles over time from sitting. http://i7.photobucke...

There could be a loose cable or problem with the power brick. Try using your AC adapter from home when you're at work. Does the same thing happen in the BIOS?

Re: T400 CPU heat problems
it is odd, and i've been using one with windows 8 for the past few days, it hasn't had any problems at all. throttlestop is running and that may help. Have you tried setting the BIOS back to default? Does the shutdown occur in BIOS? Have you tried an alternative OS to see what happens? It seems it m...

Re: T400 CPU heat problems
I still haven't been able to figure this out. Some will work fine with throttlestop but others will shut off anyway, even if I'm just installing updates. The one I'm working on now shuts off sooner if the dedicated graphics are enabled and it gets hot.

Re: T400 CPU heat problems
I've never had this problem with any other T400 either, only this specific type (2767-A15) and manufacture date - late 2008/early 2009. All I can do for now is have throttlestop run on startup which is better than nothing. The computer seems to be fine with normal usage too.

Re: T400 CPU heat problems
Apparently it's not a heat issue, since throttlestop completely fixes the problem. It's something with how lenovo has their motherboard set to control the processor. It is odd that multiple computers have the same exact problem though.

T400 CPU heat problems
I have a bunch of T400 laptops that all have the same problem: the processor heats up extremely quickly, and it will either throttle or shut the computer off completely after a few seconds of high CPU load. These are all older T400s (dec. 2008 and jan. 2009) with T9400 CPUs and ATI switchable graphi...

you can look through this: http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/ltwbook.pdf
7659-XAU and 7661-XAU have WXGA+ screens and intel graphics, so they do exist. there are more than the ones in this PDF too.

try unplugging and plugging in the touchpad connector. i assume not too much has changed in thinkpads recently so all you should have to do is unscrew a few screws from the bottom to remove the palm rest.

Re: [solved] Convertible Tablet Owners: Questions
Sounds like a good idea, but I'm really looking to be able to have a sort of all-in-one solution. Before I knew the GPU requirements, I figured the X230t would be even better, doubling as a tablet and having the same cpu, IPS, etc. I agree with you on the money too, it costs enough to be there.. :?...

Re: [solved] Convertible Tablet Owners: Questions
if you have the budget, just get a laptop that meets those requirements and find a cheap X61t on ebay (there are tons all the time). I've been using tablet PCs for 4 years in school for engineering and would not go back to pencil and paper unless i needed to for a certain day or class. All in all, w...

Re: Wireless connections keeps cutting off
if you have access connections installed, there is a setting in the last tab (tools -> global settings) to disable the wireless when it's "inactive" but it could also shut it off randomly. uncheck the box and see if that fixes the problem.

might not be too "quick" but ebay should work. if you need covers they do bundle them together. just search "lenovo caddy" or something similar and sort by lowest price.mgb wrote:Also, any quick/inexpensive sources for a HD caddy?

Re: how to tell if Middleton Bios was installed successfully?
you can check for SLIC 2.1 with a program like AIDA64. if it says SLIC 2.0, then it's still on the lenovo BIOS. also if you have an SSD, run a benchmark (HD tune would work) and the speeds should be over 130 MB/s, assuming the SSD can read that quickly.

Re: Battery issue with T61p
look at the battery details in lenovo power manager. it'll tell you if the battery is bad and can no longer be charged. it'll also say the manufacturer and cycle count (number of charges). if it's a sanyo from before 2010, they are basically all bad, and if it has over 250-300 cycles then the batter...

If that chip has a crater, you basically have to replace the entire motherboard. if you go this route, z60t (and z61t) motherboards can probably be found pretty cheap on ebay. If you're still interested, the FRU appears to be 42T0361. I have a LG WUXGA panel in a T61p, with a model LP154WU1-TLB1. Lenovo's site is having some issues otherwise I'd look it up on there.
