Re: T61 FX 570M temperatures?

When replacing my mobo with an updated nVidia NOS board I ran into the running hot problem. I apply a thin coat of AC5 on the chips. When I removed the heatsink there wasn't a square imprint of the paste on the heatsink. The heatpipes on the heatsink appeared to have gotten slightly tweaked to where...

Thanks Tuus!

I have to send a big thanks to TuuS for his service and support in getting my FrankenPad back up and running. I went for one of his holy grail FrankenPad nvidia mobo's a couple of weeks ago after my SECOND nVidia board failed. This one was NIB with a 2010 dated GPU. I'm looking forward to this machi...

Re: Odd possible GPU failure on my 140m

An easier way to test the screen would be to remove the complete lid, some RAM, and the keyboard, attach them to your bare T60 mobo. Attach the DC-jacket if you have a spare one, or else a charged battery. Lift up the keyboard a little so it won't make contact with the electronics, and press the po...

Re: Odd possible GPU failure on my 140m

Is it possible to mess up the controller on the bottom of the lid under the screen through the OS or can it only be altered through the BIOS? All I did was install the latest drivers shortly after my video started flickering and the machine started to freeze. Upon booting the screen is lit black wit...

Odd possible GPU failure on my 140m

I have a 15" UXGA Frankenpad with it's second MB. I don't do intense graphics or gaming but sometimes run it the GPU around 78-80 degrees for a few hours at a time at the most. The temp never exceeds 80. Today while gaming at 76 degrees my video flickered and the computer froze. This turned into the...

Re: T60p run's so hot under a mild load

I've got the T9*** from the T61p board and I'm wandering if I should just invest in a new board of some sort to re-Frankenpad this thing or just upgrade what is already here.

Re: T60p run's so hot under a mild load

This one has the T2600. It's idling around 48 on the CPU and 66 on the GPU just surfing the web. If I video chat for a little while the temps go up and up. I still have all the T61p parts except for the board, the GPU is toast.

Re: T60p run's so hot under a mild load

Hey guy's. Yes I used AC5 paste when reassembling the machine. The machine is currently running a factory install of XP. It just really doesn't seem to like the video chat. It took several minutes for it to crash but the temps just kept going up and up. The heatsink corner of the machine was too hot...

T60p run's so hot under a mild load

My 42W7874 nVidia board in my 15" Frankenpad failed due to the GPU failing a few weeks ago. I had no choice but to revert to the original parts out of my T60p. This thing is such a POS! It is POWERFULLY slow and runs so hot compared to my T61p parts that failed. I just can't take it anymore. I'm afr...

My 42W7874 boarded Frankenpad's GPU finally went [censored]'s up a few weeks ago and I'm back to the stock T60p. MAN IT SUCKS! I can't wait to get another T61 board one of these day's, what a difference. I think I'll go with an Intel based board this time as I really felt the pain of the nVidia fail...

Re: T60 or T61, and what´s the ideal T61 config?

I'm rocking a T60p 15" Hydis Flexview chassis with my old nVidia powered T61p internal components and I couldn't be happier. The T61p setup runs soo much cooler and quieter than the T60p did out of the box and I trust my particular nVidia 570m even when heavily loaded as it has been for over 5 years...

Re: Can a T60 screen assembly be installed onto a T61?

The hinges, for one, are different between the 60 and 61. If I remember correctly the T61 has a wide hinge on the left and a slightly thinner hinge on the right. On the T60p I'm typing on now, the hinges are the same size and are of MUCH higher quality than my T61p was. They stay tight and the overa...

Re: My Frankenpad experience.

I just ran the video card stability test from: http://freestone-group.com/video-card-stability-test.htm and it ran it at 90 fps. I'm not sure if the resolution of the screen effect it at all. The results page from the creator of the app shows the FX570m should run it at 120 or so. The T60p ran it in...

My Frankenpad experience.

I've been active the past several weeks on this forum starting with my 14.1" 4:3 T61p failing (case not electronics.) I purchased a 15" 4:3 T60p off eBay for a great price with the Hydis UXGA IPS screen. I loved the feel, build quality, and screen of the machine. I found that my T60p ran pretty hot ...

Re: Yellowing UXGA's

If you want to have some peace of mind, you might want to check the production date printed on the nVIDIA GPU. It should look more or less like this here: nVIDIA UA10B165 1041A2 S TAIWAN P3U612.M2W G84-950-A2 The second half of the second line is a date code, which in this example resolves as "2010...

Re: Yellowing UXGA's

Prodeje79, I may end up with my Hydis UXGA pictured above for sale for a much lower than retail price with the slight defects. I've accidentally won an auction for a brand new UXGA LCD on eBay. I bid way low and ended up winning it. Once it arrives I haven't decided whether I'm going to go ahead and...

Unfortunately, as far as I know, that old ThinkVantage bar is gone for Windows 7. I had Windows 7 on my T61p and that way ot worked out for me was that the blue button would open the ThinkVantage Toolbox. Thanks again. I ran the benchmark app you linked for me and my machine scored a 73. I forgot to set the power profile to max performance but the temp's didn't go over 90C according to CoreTemp. No locking up or freezing.

ajkula, thanks again! I forced the .NET que to finish it's thing and that free'd up all of my processing power again. It's idling in the low 60's right now. It is running XP Pro. I pulled the machine apart to inspect some things that I noticed with creaking/popping when opening the screen. I suspect...

Re: Yellowing UXGA's

Thanks ajkula66. I do like this machine so far but am starting to wonder if I should send it back to the seller for the $300 I gave him for it. It's in great shape except for the dust spec. The temps when I first fired it up run between 80-90C on the CPU. By looking at the processes in XP I see that...

Re: Yellowing UXGA's

The heat cycle thing makes sense. The same holds true for some models of Lexus Electronic Control Modules in the mid 90's. After a certain amount of miles they just start doing crazy things that you can never trace down. The thing that has me wondering is I've used my T61p almost everyday for the pa...

Those holes are the ports to oil/lubricate the keyboard through... J/K! There may be a limit to the volume and rate of liquid poured into the keyboard but it would probably survive most spills that would occur. I'm sure coffee was tested as that's usually next to most businessmen. It at least stands...

Re: Yellowing UXGA's

That is certainly a good point to make. A lot of people get the biggest fastest most expensive machine you can buy to surf the web and store pictures on. Knowing what you're going to use it for makes decisions a lot easier and more economical rather than getting the biggest and best.

Re: Yellowing UXGA's

UXGA is actually 1600x1200. Yellowing is fairly common on all IPS screens, but less pronounced on AFFS LCDs such as Hydis that a large number of T60p units left the factory with. Of course, put a Hydis in less-than-desirable environment (smoke, dust...) and it will get yellow as well. Run the backl...

Yellowing UXGA's

I've got a used T60p coming to replace my T61P. It is a 15" UXGA 1600x1400. I'm not sure on the brand as I havn't quite got that straight yet. A few 1600x1400 T60p's I came across on eBay mentioned a yellowed tint to them. I'd like this machine to go a while longer and I'm very particular to keeping...
