Re: X250 review by an old school ThinkPad fan

I just picked up an X260 and feel the same way as the OP. This is replacing a succession of laptops including a 12" MacBook and Surface Book and Pro. Why? No dongles! Actual ports. And, because this is not a sexy bit of kit to the average consumer I scored a great deal on it second hand. It's def a ...

I get 2:15 from mine surfing.

Really need more juice though - gotta find an 8 cell or move up to a newer unit with more stamina.

I have a 32G-C Runcore in my X40 and the difference is astounding. 77MB/sec sustained read speed. It boots in under 30 seconds.

It is the single most perfect ThinkPad ever from a design perspective, hence the demand. People looking for it probably already have the listed alternatives. They want it for a pedestal.

I can confirm that installing in any laptop and attempting to unlock does not work. The HDD password setting is greyed out in the BIOS.

I'll have to track down a ThinkPad.

Thanks everyone!

Locked HDD: I know the PW but I don't have the ThinkPad

I sold my z60t a while back. Prior to selling I upgraded the HDD and I have the original SATA 40 GB HDD sitting on my desk. I would like to use it but it has a password (which I know) so it will not mount. Does Lenovo make a utility that I can install on the new PC that will let me unlock it? I can'...

WTB: sub 7 pound, 14*10, Wifi, IRDA Thinkpad

I thought I could live with XGA, but the A30 I just sold convined me that I need more screen real-estate. I would like integrated Wifi vs. a PCMCIA card. I also need IRDA/FIR to communicate with my Heart Rate monitor. Lighter is better. I am thinking R40 or T30. Maybe a T23 if I can find one of thes...

I am running the desktop version on my home-brew system. I quite like it. It does not swap all the icons, just a few key ones. The ones it leaves behind really stand out. Blah. From what I can tell, it breaks the IBM update connector.

I ran an update that gave me 4 IBM patches, then ran Win Update, and IBM Update Connector would no longer work.

Bummer - I want to have my TP download all the patches while I do soemthing else.

It has no scratches and is very clean. The screen is perfect - bright and no dead/stuck pixels.

The only issue is that the screen latches are broken.

It is definitely heavy - more a portable workstation than a notebook.

High detail on a 9600 or Mobility GL is just silly.

I run Med settings on 9800 Pro in my 3.2 GHz P4. You won't be able to tell the difference between med and high unless you look really hard.

I can get this for $750 CDN ($560 USD): IBM Thinkpad R31 Notebook. IBM Model #: 2656-AU4. It is excellent condition. Celeron 1.06Mhz, 256mb RAM, 20gb HDD, DVD/CDRW, NIC/Modem, XP Home (new install, preloaded, C.O.A. is included.) and AC adaptor. The notebook comes with a 30 day warranty. This unit h...

OK I just learned how this works, and why some x20/21s are listed as having IR. There is an optional Ultraport ir adapter that snaps on near the thinklight. After the 21, IBM added ir as stock. Factor in another $50 for one of these units if you need ir - suddenly the x22, 23 and 24 look more attrac...

X21 - Does it have Infra Red?

I am looking at an x21 (2662-62U). The price is pretty good ($575 CDN w/o optical drive). I did some research, and it appears this unit lacks IR - but the sales dude says it does have it. There is an area on the front left side of the unit that looks like it could be an IR window - but it is black. ...

Yeah, XGA is a big deal for me so the 240 and 240x won't do.

The more I research the s30, the more I want one. The piano black finish is sweet. I won't lie, looks are important to me.

The rare 600x with a PIII 850 would be nice too.
