Re: W700 Looking for an Inverter
A quick note that my W700 (not a ds model) does not match this information. It has the FRU 42W8030 with the 1920x200 MaxBright display with two CCFLs. Sorry! 42W8030 likely works with both but the 45N4460 was the original inverter spec'd for the X1 display per Lenovo's documents linked above. I'm s...

What device are you using to output the VGA signal? You should be able to drive most 2560x1440 displays over VGA by lowering the output refresh rate to 30 or 40Hz.

Flash updates error out during Windows Update. KB3174060 from yesterday was unable to install because Flash has been removed from my system.
The downside is that the update needs to be manually removed from the queue or it keeps trying to install when WU runs.

There are newer (non-IBM/Lenovo) caddies for SATA, such as this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321906095854 with AFAIK only a straight bezel. Lenovo made an eIDE to SATA adapter under P/N 26R9247 / FRU 26R9246. I have an original sitting on my desk collecting dust. It was intended for the 60-series but c...

Re: a BIOS BUG discovered..?!
It's standard practice not to name sources when they don't come forth to the vendor first. It's a way to mitigate those seeking fame rather than doing this to truly help the industry. It's certainly possible to write an executable that writes this exploit to memory, reboots a system and attempts to ...

Speaking of UEFI complexity, the author of the exploit admits himself that one is more likely to be hit by lightening than affected by this issue. http://blog.cr4.sh/2016/06/exploring-and-exploiting-lenovo.html Not mentioned in the public media is the fact that someone would have to have physical ac...

Not sure. With Enterprise N LTSB there is no Edge, only standard IE. IE has been uninstalled on nearly all systems I manage, my own personal systems included. HOWTO: Remove built-in Adobe Flash from Windows 10
In my quest to meet specific HIPAA/SOX/PCI/security requirements on various Win 10 deployments, I wrote the following batch script to remove the built-in Flash installation. The standard Adobe Uninstall Flash Player app doesn't remove the built-in version. See note below. Create a batch file and pas...

I'd like to avoid Cortana, the MS store, telemetry etc. I hate doing installs so I don't want to go to 8.1 and then 10 or vice versa. There are tons of tweaks out there to kill all of that stuff in 10. It's a hassle but worth the time if you like the interface. Besides, if you don't think similar t...

No worries. Let us know how things turn out. The labels I purchased were blatant knockoffs but the rails might be decent. It's too soon to be concerned.

I purchased vintage IBM ThinkPad labels from that seller and they turned out to be counterfeit. I reported them to eBay and they wouldn't do anything about it. Hopefully you have better luck. Those rails used to be around $20 each plus $13.50 for shipping, then tax on top of everything. That's rough...
