AweSun Remote Access software from AweRay
An elderly friend allowed the wrong "fictitious" Amazon representative to install "AWESUN" remote access software to his laptop. Luckily he realized something was wrong before the hacker scammer got full access. I sent the email below to AweRay, creator of AWESUN and got no reply. Is anyone familia...

Ultra bay extra battery
What ultrabay battery fits the thinkpad T510/W510?
Which of these, (if you know) is the correct part number? 45N1041, 51J0508, 57Y4536, 41U4890, 51J0507, 40Y6787
Also is it worth it as far as extended time/charge?

Re: Time for a "what distro are you running" thread...
I currently have 3 running FreeBSD, 2 OpenBSD and 1 Solaris. Unless you're familiar with UNIX none of them would fall into what I would consider the "ease and comfort" category, although I do have a tutorial on how to build a FreeBSD desktop from scratch where I spell it out step-by-step with a tar...

Re: Time for a "what distro are you running" thread...
thanks Neil, I have downloaded three ISO's and haven't loaded any of them yet. Debian, Ubuntu and Mint. I'm fine tuning a new machine, W510, and will load Linux onto my older machine a T510, with one of the three ISO's (maybe try all three, I don't know)! I loaded my first taste of Linux back in 200...

Re: Time for a "what distro are you running" thread...
I see none of you are running a Linux Mint version!
Any particular reason why?
Mint doesn't play nice with Thinkpads?
Thats all I've owned for quite some time starting way back with a T 41!
thanks for any all replies, eto

3 W510 4318-CTO questions
I recently purchased a W510 4138-CTO Thinkpad . It was bought missing a few components, battery, power supply and ram memory. 1) I tried to use a T510 power supply, but I get a logon BIOS message stating a stronger ( higher wattage ) power supply is required, and this W510 will operate at reduced pe...

Re: R500 randomly shuts down overheating issue?
The copper heat sink component covers both CPU and GPU , and used arctic silver on both. i dont think i used TOO much heat sink paste as I use a credit card to make the layer even across both CPU/GPU surfaces and wipe away any excess. Sometimes it will play for a while without doing a "Exceeded Ther...

R500 randomly shuts down overheating issue?
My R500 seems to perform an overheat shutdown randomly but often enough. It sounded like the fan was going or had some kind of obstruction and I replaced it and the heat sink paste (Arctic Silver) I run CoreTemp 1.1 and dont see any outrageous temp swings. But when it does shut off, I'll blow air th...

Re: Which version of Linux to install?
Ok I burned both Ubuntu and Mint to DVD's! First install was on the Toshiba which is using a UEFI HDD and bios settings. Luckily my R500 does not! For some reason Mint wanted a user name and password? Is that from the Windows 8 install? I then rebooted with the Ubuntu 14.04 flavor ISO DVD. Does the ...

WD Sata 160gb HD missing 11Gb!
Where did the 11 gb go? I had to remove a WD Sata 160 gb sata drive(WD1600BEVT-2) from a laptop to scan it for virii and malware! This Lenovo G530 laptop would not even boot from the hard drive! Murphy's law, is how the last one broke so soon! It ain't easy being a Neanderthal! Anyway the scavenged plastic USB "tombstones" from the Linksys worked quite well, going to crazy glue them in today. It seemed as though the Lenovo plastic "tombstones" were made of a somewhat porous (if at all they ...
