Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA touch screen not working

Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA purchased for cheap on eBay. I bumped the RAM to 8GB and put an SSD in it. It lives in my garage to interface with my 3D printers. The touch screen worked when I got the machine (about a year ago). At some point it quit working. There's nothing in the device manager that looks l...

Re: Thinkpad P16 announced

just took a look at it - the Lenovo Pro discounts don't apply to the CTO so it's far more expensive, and the 4K OLED display isn't an option.

Re: Thinkpad P16 announced

Thanks for the info! My bad, I totally forgot the P16 CTO still isn't live. Glad you're happy with it, though I am curious to see how the cooling system will hold up in sustained loads. Other manufacturers are having a rough time keeping the 55w chips cooled. P16 CTO is now live, FYI. https://www.l...

Re: Thinkpad P16 announced

Thats basically my experience with the P53. Par for the course on these big workstations. Yeah. My P52 did OK on battery - could do 4+ hours on a good day. I didn't have that expectation with the P16 as it sucks a lot more juice and has a similar battery capacity, but expected a little better for i...

Re: Thinkpad P16 announced

Not surprising, but the battery life on this thing is pretty short. The default power mode was Balanced . I haven't been benchmarking or keeping close track of time, but just doing modest work - web browsing, email, etc - no heavy lifting - I don't think it would have made it much past two hours. No...

Based on what I read in the manual - I'm not sure it detects anything at all. It probably just activates more aggressive throttling so that it does not get as hot, in case you use it on your lap.
That's lame. They don't elaborate on any of the BIOS options on the P16 in the available docs.

BIOS option "Cool and Quiet on Lap"

Was poking around the BIOS on my P16 and found this option for "Cool and Quiet on Lap". Looks like this option is also on some prior ThinkPads. I'm curious, what criteria does the machine use to determine it's on a lap? I have a docking station, so I assume when that's plugged in the machine will kn...

Re: Thinkpad P16 announced

They haven't listed any CTO options for the P16 - at least last time I checked, so mine was one of the listed configs. No regrets at this point. As I said, fans can get pretty loud when it's under heavy load, but it takes a lot to get it there. Most stuff happens so bloody quick the fans don' t have...

Re: Thinkpad P16 announced

The P16 has landed. First impressions: Very similar size and weight to my P52 - within a fraction of an ounce in weight. My laptop bag is tight on the P52. The P16 slides in a little easier. No disc activity light. Not a big deal these days, but with all the crap people raised about that with the W5...

Re: Thinkpad P16 announced

My P16 has shipped. Currently due to arrive on Friday (August 5th). I'm not into the benchmarking game - I prefer to see how machines work in the real world. That said, I haven't found any hands-on reviews out there yet. If there are some basic benchmarks folks would like to see on this machine I'd ...

Re: Thinkpad P16 announced

We already know it does not have a vapor chamber, and with Lenovo's past heatpipe based coolers as a benchmark, its going to cook. So Lenovo's claim of vapor chamber cooling has been proven false? :? To offer that high-end performance and maintain a smaller footprint, Lenovo’s thermodynamics engine...

I just clone both machine, and have same software, sync via OneDrive with O365. Re: Thinkpad P16 announced

I'm currently looking at buying a P1G5 ... I took a closer look at the P1G5 - the specs I had seen said it was limited to 2TB storage (I thought), but I now I see it can go with a pair of 4TB drives with the RTX A2000 GPU or lower. The limited storage was the deal-breaker for me on the P1. I don't ...

Re: Thinkpad P16 announced

oh the drama ... :P I put W11 on my P52 the day 11 was launched. I knew it would be buggy out of the gate but figured I'd give it a little time. Re: Thinkpad P16 announced

Decided to order the P16. The P1 Gen5 is tempting, but I need a lot of storage and I expect the thermals to be better in the P16 - plus it gets a little more CPU. I have 6TB in my P52. I'll go ahead and stock the P16 with 8TB when it arrives. Expected ship date is in September. I'm getting the IPS 4...

Re: 2022 Thinkpads

Slightly curious looking Thinkpad P16 . A lot to like. Not sure if the 'styling' is an improvement, but I don't get too hung up on looks. The rounded base could be easier sliding in and out of a bag, but the legs could do exactly the opposite - snag points. The legs will certainly improve airflow t...

The P16 is not announced yet. You are probably confusing it with the P16s, which is a renamed ThinkPad T16 with an ISV certified GPU.
This is where I saw the info: https://architosh.com/2022/02/lenovo-in ... 4-and-p16/

Re: 2022 Thinkpads

In the mobile workstation department it seems the new X1 Extreme is going to fit my requirements better than the P16. P16 only houses a single SSD and the X1 will support two 4TB drives. The lack of a keypad on the keyboard on the X1 is most unfortunate though. May have to sit tight for a while. The...

I think you mean X1 Extreme Gen 5, not Gen 6. Correct - I got that wrong. There is not gonna be a P15 Gen 3. Lenovo is changing the workstation line, instead of continuing with P15 and P17, they will release a ThinkPad P16 to replace them both. This one will use 16 inch 16:10 screens. 16:10 would n...

Why not a Desktop PC? I realized long time ago that, if high performance or copious amounts of storage are a concern, then a laptop is a poor choice. Because I don't work in one place. I had a desktop and a laptop for a long time, but it was a constant battle keeping software preferences and data f...

Re: 2022 Thinkpads

I'm keeping my eye out for what's coming next in the mobile workstation line. Currently I drive a P52 P3200 4K 64GB with 3x 2TB SSDs. It seems that the i9 12th gen might be a worthwhile upgrade and I do a fair bit of GPU-intensive stuff. I'd rather have something that packs a punch than thin and lig...

What color calibrator do you use? Got a ColorHug2 but the resulting ICC profile is a bit reddish. I have the X-rite i1 Display Pro. I use that with Benq's Palette Master Element calibration software. Re: 2022 Thinkpads

What's the point of having such high resolutions? The physical size is restricted in a laptop, so all you'll end up doing it scaling back in software. I think people confuses resolution with display quality. Generally speaking, higher end displays show better color accuracy, contrast, brightness, s...

The current bid is US $103.49 - but I'm hoping it sells for significantly more than that.
