Re: Time for a "what distro are you running" thread...

I install Mint 19.1 Cinnamon everywhere I can. Really enjoy this distro... :) Just installed it onto an M-SATA SSD (Samsung, 256GB) in my ThinkPad T430. The "regular" drive is a 2.5" 250GB SSD with Windows 10 (for when the work requires) and there's another 1TB HD (storage) in the ODD-bay. My cup ru...

Re: T430 Touchpad or similiar available on newer machines?

Just amazed that there's someone who actually likes the T430 touchpad :D (the only part on my trusty T430 I really don't like... apart from the display panel... But it's even worse.)

Re: T430 and Linux Pop_os running hot

You can disable switchable graphics in the BIOS, in case discrete graphics is not really needed (that depends on the intended use). That usually resolves the heating issue (unless it is caused by some other factor.)

Re: W10 1809 - X250 - Issue

Hm, that's odd. My T430 has been running W10 1809 fine for a while now (received as a normal "feature" update) and my Intel HD Graphics driver is version 10.18.10.4425.

EDIT - please disregard the post, this issue is probably X-series specific.

Re: quad core cpu for T430 suggestion

(Continued from above)
The CPU Mark (in Passmark) my T430 got before the "transplant surgery" was 4516 and 7070 with the "new" CPU. (For my other ThinkPads CPU Mark is as follows: Yoga 260 = 3844 and T400 = 1600).

Re: quad core cpu for T430 suggestion

OK. So, I've upgraded the CPU today (as mentioned above). It's been uneventful, everything works normally. The only "problem" I got is that the ThinkPad complained about the AC Adapter (65W - it wasn't powerful enough, and it wouldn't charge the battery any longer.) So I switched it to 90W, and it's...

Re: T400 and Windows 10: My experience

Yes, T400 works just fine with W10 for me, as well. No issues at all. That particular T400 is my music player (attached to the Hi-Fi using the digital coax output on the docking station, and into a DAC), so it's really important that it is silent. And it is virtually silent - and runs at about 40 C ...

Re: quad core cpu for T430 suggestion

The usual recommendations are 35w TDP quad cores like i7-3632QM and i7-3612QM. Using this old comment just to ask, has anyone here upgraded T430 with an i7-3612QM? I'm quite happy with my T430 (apart from a couple of minor gripes) the way it is, however I just happen to have an i7-3612QM lying arou...

I know it's an old thread, but just in case someone's reading: as someone struggling with the latter, I can heartily recommend a larger display. Yoga 260 has a very nice looking display, however it's really no...

Re: Just picked up a Thinkpad T430 for cheap!

I just picked up a really nice (looks almost new) T430 2347 on ebay. Honestly, I wouldn't bother with anything else other than W10 Pro it came with. Not a huge fan of W10, but it works well, and everything (in terms of hardware and all functionality) works just perfectly. I still use my old trusty T...

Re: T400 and Windows 10: My experience

My experience with Win10 on T400 was exactly the same. Initially I was happy with the upgrade, but day by day I've started noticing problems that have led me back to Win7. The biggest frustration was the system overheating (TPFC did not help as much as it does under Win7). Also, I've lost the abilit...

Re: Relacement fan / heatsink for T500 - 45N5490

There's a FRU # 45N5490 now on eBay for approx. 50 US bucks (incl. postage). It's not cheap, but this FRU seems to be less common than 45N5492 (which is for the T500 with discrete graphics), which is quite a bit cheaper.

It might be that your internal (CMOS) battery needs replacing.
