DIY repairs & warranty

Quick question in regards to Lenovo warranty. Just picked up a pretty beat up T420 with a good motherboard and LCD. Frame is broken at left hinge, base is broken out at same area, and the palm rest is missing. I checked the Lenovo site vs the bios serial number and it appears that the machine is und...

Re: T23 IDE SSD - Recommendations?

For my old P3 machines (and maybe soon newer t4x machines) I run compact flash with pata ide to flash adapters. This seems to work very well imho. I am running Linux on those older machines which probably makes it easier and more reliable than windows on flash. 2.5" spinning ide drives are getting h...

IPS 390?

So, I have a broken X41 tablet with a good screen that I have been meaning to get use from. I have an X31 that I was considering using the screen in, but have recently come into a very nice 390 example. They are both 12.1" screens, but I may have to mess with the wiring a bit. Has anyone tried somet...

Check out the market place here for recovery media.

If you want to sell it, list it here too. It appears to be a 15" flexview, you would likely get a buyer if in decent shape.

Re: WTB: T61, T400, or T410

Does it matter what OS is loaded on the machine? Can you load the OS yourself? What do you wish to spend? A t43 running GNU/Linux can be had very inexpensive (<$99), and would make a good web surfing machine. The 61/400 are Core2duo with greater ram capacity and are still pretty strong machines. Sho...

Take a look at this. It is how I adjust CLI resolution on my linux systems.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GR ... resolution

only difference in Debian is that you run "update-grub" as root once changes are made in "/etc/default/grub" to update the settings.

Re: Time to move on, upgrading to T400

It is hard to say. I do not know what the prices are in your area. Over in the states, t400 can be had in great shape for much less, probably due to many retired corporate units on secondary market. Personally, I would say you may be disappointed moving from a 15.4" t61 to a 14.1" t400. Less screen ...

Nice machine. So, are you leaving the Thinkpad scene completely? That would be a great loss for the rest of us. Currently I use a T61 in a 14" 4:3 T60 Chassis. I doubt I could go any older than a T60 and still be happy. And while I don't have much knowledge (none actually) of the R/T 400/500 series, my intuition tells me that is when Lenovo (like so many other once-great companies, especially once sold to new owners) probably began their inevitable corner cutting, cheapening, and general worsening and removal of e...

I won't contribute towards your topic's question, but may I ask if that panel swap worked out of the box? Did you use the original WXGA inverter and lcd cable? Thanks in advance! I had to change the LCD cable per RBS's post here, but it worked without a hitch: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.p...
