Re: What is the 14 inch, and 15.x inch sibling of x230?

So the X220 keyboard was the greatest and sadly missed ? That's subjective of course. I think my favorite ThinkPad keyboard was my 14" R60, but the screen on it was terrible, so you can't have it all I guess. A lot of long time ThinkPadders miss the old school keyboard. Not because it was a chiclet...

Re: My Thoughts on the Nintendo Switch after a few weeks

I was in Walmark in May and walked by the game case. After I got about 10 feet past, I whipped around cause it was the first time I had seen a Switch. I got the last red/blue one too. I should have bought them all and flipped them on eBay, but I didn't want to be greedy. My thought was I'll try to s...

does someone have an Advice? If you don't say anything about what you want or need, other than the need to hook it to your power bank/solar cell, it's kind of hard to help. If you like it, buy it. Re: Anyone else ditching the Thinkpad?!

Ditching ThinkPads seems a bit harsh, I'd really like to have a trackpoint on my 17" ProBook, but the last two times I bought a notebook, ThinkPads weren't offering what I wanted. I would have bought a T440s in 2014, but the whole buttonless trackpoint scared me off a bit, so I bought the Dell equiv...

That said, I need to find a new machine, running Windows 7 because it won't change the look and feel and still run MS Paint, one of his favorite tools. This is going to be a problem as most new machines use Kaby Lake CPUs, which Microsoft has dictated will no longer get Windows 7 driver support. Yo...

Of course this excludes any new ThinkPads as Kaby Lake and newer models won't get Windows 7 driver support.

Yep, and its awful, from first hand experience. The buttons feel like marshmallows, not buttons.
Of course that's an opinion, though I'd probably tend to agree as I prefer the soft rim, but they seemed to like it over at LaptopMag.

The Lenovo USB 3.0 to DVI/VGA Monitor Adapter(0B47072) might be worth a look. Supposedly it supports up to six monitors if you've got enough USB 3.0 ports.

Given that the T60 is now 10+ years old, I'd say go for the T25. Or better yet, get the lighter T470s, which offers the much improved WQHD screen.

From the factory, that would be the T61 or the R61, which was available in Europe, but not the US. There are motherboards available that upgrade the T60 or X6x to newer faster CPUs and more memory, see here.

know the L series isn't as tough as the T series If you have a mishap with one or the other, it's probably just bad luck more than anything else. I thought the T450s had the best blend of features. It could do a M.2 SSD and a hard drive, which the T460s could not do, but didn't have the no trackpoint buttons problem like the T440s. The newer ones are a bit lighter, but more expensive too. I always thought the ThinkLight was a better idea than...

What are you looking to spend? Some of the newer ThinkPads like the X1 Carbon and T470s will just as thin and light as the X2x0 ThinkPads.

Given that you're not stressing the CPU much at all, I'd buy whatever is cheaper, which would be the i7-7500u in this case.

Is there any major improvements to make passing on buying the T500 a good idea I think that depends on your goal, which you didn't say much about. If your goal is to spend the least amount of money, then you'll probably do better with a T500, which is still a pretty good notebook as long as you're ...

Re: i7 Seventh generation won't run Win7?

I don't think you'd be barred from installing it, but I believe there will be no support from Microsoft to run Windows 7 or 8.1 on Kaby Lake and newer hardware, which means no Windows Update. Then there's the issue of drivers too. If Microsoft isn't supporting it, are you going to be able to get dri...

Re: Are series xx40 and newer really that bad?

Better or worse depends on your goal. Are ThinkPads as durable when they used to cost $3,000? Probably not, but they cost a lot less too, meaning many more people can afford them, and almost every ThinkPad now has an IPS screen option, even the lowly E series. I'd say those were improvements over ol...

Having done LCD swaps, I'd vote for getting the X260. By the time you buy the screen, though the old one probably has some value, you're probably not saving much, so why go through the hassle?

Re: Reasons why the 14" screen got terrible options.

I run my 14" FHD screen at 125% DPI as it's more palatabible to the eyes. I can run in FHD mode for a while, but then the eyes start to hurt a bit. I'd rather be more comfortable than fit the most on my screen. I've always though 125 DPI was just about perfect for a notebook, which is a 14" SXGA+ IP...

Re: Time for a new ThinkPad - can't decide

I think I reviewed the 1st Gen X1 Carbon. The screen is nice, think MacBook Air quality wise, but not IPS. The FHD screen on the T440s will be better, but then you've got the stick button issue. I don't think it's that hard to do if you've got the time and inclination. The T450s solves that problem,...
