The issue is not building the keyboard, but rather getting everyone to agree on what perfect is.

There's other ThinkPad keyboards out there. You just got to keep trying until you find the one.

I'd make the recovery media in case you want to put it back, but personally I prefer a clean install so I can get it the way I like it and then make an image, which I can then put back if needed.

That's quite the collection. If you wish to reduce the footprint, using a third party hosting site, like postimage.org, to offer up thumbnails that anyone who wants see can click on.

The T480 is now six years old. Much will depend on what kind of shape battery is in.

You can get the ThinkPad L14, which offers the low power LCD as well, though I don't know how difficult is to find, but has two upgradeable memory slots. There won't be much of a practical difference between the L14 and T14 in my opinion.

I have used F12 at startup to bring up the boot order and selected USB and been unsuccessful.
Could you expound on that process? If USB is not working and trying a disc is an option, that seems the next step.

It's true upgrading from one dual core to another likely doesn't make much of a practical difference, but adding a couple cores will offer a significant performance advantage as the system ages.

Did you try uninstalling the keyboard driver in device manager and rebooting? Perhaps booting to Linux via USB will tell you weather it's a hardware or software issue.

When it says anti-glare, that's a matte screen. It looks like, according to the specs, all but the 500 nit matte screen are either EyeSafe 2.0 certified, which is supposed to minimize blue light or say they're low blue light displays. The review of the X1C Gen 11 over on Notebookcheck does say the O...

Wouldn't the T490 be a better dream given that it gets you access to the six core i7 and very good low power screen? I presume there's some sort of technical hurdle complicating its birth.

Spending more for CPU upgrades is almost never worth it unless you have a need to run the CPU at or near capacity frequently, or you get it for free. Whatever you buy will be old in 2027, regardless of what you choose today.

Re: Best new Win11 ThinkPad for a 15-year user of an x200 ??

I think the main differences are going to be the chip and how well it performs along with the ergonomics. Most notebooks in my experience will give at least a few years of faithful service if not damaged in some way. At the same price point I expect Ryzen offers better value, but if you can find an ...

Re: Best new Win11 ThinkPad for a 15-year user of an x200 ??

One thing that slipped my mind, yet may be important, is that the recent 13" ThinkPads have soldered memory, so if you get one with 8gb, you can't upgrade it, which may not be an issue now, but won't be ideal for keeping it usable by upgrading it. If you buy one you should probably get one with at l...

You're never going to replicate the keyboard of the X200 and best is kind of subjective depending on your goal, but I would say the best blend of Windows 11, cost, performance, mobility that most closely mimics your X200 with a warranty would be a 13” ThinkPad either X or L series from the Lenovo Ou...

LG Grams notebooks are essentially ultrabooks. They're physically larger, I don't know if that makes a difference, but thinner and weigh less than your X200. I'd want to test out the keyboard before coming to an agreement.

I think the 8th gen low watt quad cores still work well as daily drivers. Of course the newer machines are faster, but with more performance comes more cost, so I guess it more about how much you want to spend.

The ThinkPad 25 uses the 7th Gen Core i CPUs, but unfortunately, the oldest CPUs officially supported by Windows 11 are the 8th Gen low watt quad core I mentioned earlier.
