Re: Your favorite post classic T-series?

I thought the T450s had the best blend of features. It could do a M.2 SSD and a hard drive, which the T460s could not do, but didn't have the no trackpoint buttons problem like the T440s. The newer ones are a bit lighter, but more expensive too. I always thought the ThinkLight was a better idea than...

Is there a smaller, lighter Thinkpad that you might recommend?
What are you looking to spend? Some of the newer ThinkPads like the X1 Carbon and T470s will just as thin and light as the X2x0 ThinkPads.

Given that you're not stressing the CPU much at all, I'd buy whatever is cheaper, which would be the i7-7500u in this case.

1920x1280 is a superb resolution, noticeably more useful than 1920x1200 and MUCH better than 1920x1080. Count me in the I don't think it makes much of a difference camp and I'd rather have a better screen than more pixels. I wouldn't say a glare producing touch screen is my idea of better, though t...

Re: Question about the T500 vs T520

Is there any major improvements to make passing on buying the T500 a good idea I think that depends on your goal, which you didn't say much about. If your goal is to spend the least amount of money, then you'll probably do better with a T500, which is still a pretty good notebook as long as you're ...

Re: i7 Seventh generation won't run Win7?

I don't think you'd be barred from installing it, but I believe there will be no support from Microsoft to run Windows 7 or 8.1 on Kaby Lake and newer hardware, which means no Windows Update. Then there's the issue of drivers too. If Microsoft isn't supporting it, are you going to be able to get dri...

Re: Are series xx40 and newer really that bad?

Better or worse depends on your goal. Are ThinkPads as durable when they used to cost $3,000? Probably not, but they cost a lot less too, meaning many more people can afford them, and almost every ThinkPad now has an IPS screen option, even the lowly E series. I'd say those were improvements over ol...

Having done LCD swaps, I'd vote for getting the X260. By the time you buy the screen, though the old one probably has some value, you're probably not saving much, so why go through the hassle?

Re: Reasons why the 14" screen got terrible options.

I run my 14" FHD screen at 125% DPI as it's more palatabible to the eyes. I can run in FHD mode for a while, but then the eyes start to hurt a bit. I'd rather be more comfortable than fit the most on my screen. I've always though 125 DPI was just about perfect for a notebook, which is a 14" SXGA+ IP...

Re: Time for a new ThinkPad - can't decide

I think I reviewed the 1st Gen X1 Carbon. The screen is nice, think MacBook Air quality wise, but not IPS. The FHD screen on the T440s will be better, but then you've got the stick button issue. I don't think it's that hard to do if you've got the time and inclination. The T450s solves that problem,...

On opening Task Manager and after keeping it open for 10-15 secs the CPU usage drops down considerably to 15-20%.
That first 10-15 seconds, what's using the CPU?

41R4493 would be the slim combo travel adapter. It's slimmer and more versatile than the regular adapter, but not lighter.

It runs well for what I ask of it, so the marginal value of more memory is low. Plus, I believe I've only got two slots.

As long as you run a decent anitivirus software like Avast and do weekly scans with malware bytes you should be ok. Re: Refurbished Thinkpad, good or bad idea? - help and suggestions

Worth of course being highly subjective is difficult to answer for another person. If you need it to be bulletproof you're more likely to get it buying new than 3rd party refurbed, though nothing in life is guaranteed. You might want to consider adding on-site and/or accidental warranty coverage. So...

In my experience OEM batteries for older notebooks that sell in expensively tend to have been sitting around for a while, hence the low price, but the charging capacity can sometimes take a hit. Unless you're doing something where the GPU matters, the GPU upgrade probably doesn't matter much. To me ...
