Re: worth putting Win8 on T61?

I have installed W8 on my FrankenPad. There were no issues with drivers, only a bit of tinkering with the ThinkVantage Tools - I had to install most of them (except System Update and APS driver) in W7 compatibility mode as they aren't (an probably won't be) available for W8 - Lenovo decided to prepa...

Sorry for the OT but I remember one user swapping a t6x fan for a w500 one. Search the t6x board for details.

I, too, own the mentioned Asus router. Before I owned a Linksys wrt160nl and, in my flat, I see a *huge* improvement in terms of signal strength. There used to be places where I couldn't connect at all or the signal was very weak. Well, no more. I currently hace a 20Mbit cable connection, will upgra...

You might try installing Lenovo System Update, it should find and install all the necessary drivers.

I bought a working 4:3 intel-based T61 for less than $100. It didn't have keyboard and palmrest but the MB was fine, perfect to move to my UXGA T60 :D

Yes, that's the one. I can't compare it to PC Doctor as I've never been forced to use it ;)

You might want to look for a Lenovo-branded Intel 4965. Or flash the Middleton BIOS to get rid of whitelist and look for an Intel 5100 (2 antennas) or 5300 (3 antennas) to get dual-band capability. I did the latter ;)

If we're talking about HSFs - has anyone compared the t500 integrated with a t61 unit? My fan seems to be dying and, as I have to replace it anyway, I would't mind some extra cooling performance. I might just swap the fans but I'm lazy :P

I wasn't quite that thorough but it apparently worked. I followed a suggestion somewhere else to check to see if the SLIC* had been changed from 2.0 to 2.1 and it had. The next big test will be when my T9300 shows up. I very nearly avoided a disaster. While it was flashing, there was no indicator t...

Hi, As I am about to replace my wireless router I'm thinking about adding third antenna to my FrankenPad. Based on the HMM I need P/N 42R9910. No, you'll have to buy a proper wifi-N card. Cool. It's not a big issue. It will mostly function as a desktop replacement. Just curious, what would an "n" card cost? Not much. But keep in mind you have to either buy a Lenovo-branded 4965 Intel card or flash Middleton BIOS to avoid the 1802 error. S...

Well, the X6x series has full-height mini pci-e slots. What that means is that the stand-offs where you can screw the card down is positioned to match the mounting holes on a full-height card, not a half-height card. If you use a half-height card in such slots without a bracket, there will be no st...
