Re: Lenovo CES 2019

I bet you it's called Ice Lake because Intel's progress in CPU performance is as stagnant as an Ice Lake. Haha  That is funny for two reasons: 1. In reality, Ice Lake promises to be the biggest Intel CPU update in years 2. Ice Lake will be the first generation with the new "Sunny Cove" arc...

Re: Lenovo CES 2019

8th Gen CPU though? I'd expect x90 series to use newer CPUs. Unless Intel is releasing yet another '8th Gen' iteration. That is the case. Since Intel had to postpone the release of 10 nm "Ice Lake" CPUs to late 2019/early 2020, they released a stop-gap measure called "Whiskey Lake". These newer CPU...

Granted it can look like it, if you are sensitive to prejudice, but I do not believe the TP forum members are of those prejudices. Considering that someone in this very thread posted the nonsense "great replacement" right-wing conspiracy theory, I have my doubts about it. There are many ethical pro...

Re: EU seems to be in danger...

If a policymaker has data about a certain group of people, it isn't really a generalization in my mind. For example: Migrants from the Maghreb states (Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Libya) are very high up in the crime statistic. Now, it would be a generalization (or specialization, call it what you wil...

This is not correct. It is correct, because it says "hardly any", which means that there have only been a few. I have zero sympathy for such scumbags. Oh, I can sympathize with people who seek a better life very easily. Of course, using the asylum system for that is wrong, so sending people back wh...

Re: Lenovo CES 2019

Rumor is that this years generation is delayed because of Intel's supply issue (source: Lenovo retailer who posts in the German ThinkPad Forum). That is why the X1 models will only be released mid year and why the other models have not been announced yet. These models will definitely get announced a...

Stop trying to deny there is a problem. Or in which world do you live? Actually, no, you are wrong. It is in the case of the incident in Bottrop that the media reported that this man was probably mentally ill, because he apparently had was in some clinic once. Funny though to see information posted about the incident in Amberg here, but not about the right-wing terrorist attack of a German citizen that also happened on New Years Eve. Re: POLL: What's your favorite resolution for desktop monitors?

FHD is just a lot more common than WUXGA. Also, back in the day, many office monitors had the resolution 1,680 x 1,050 (WSXGA+). When 16:9 came around, those weren't replaced by 1,600 x 900 (HD+), but by 1,920 x 1,080. Obviously, this is a comparison that is a lot more favorable for FHD – might be a...

Re: POLL: What's your favorite resolution for desktop monitors?

Voted for 1,920 x 1,080, because this is the resolution of my current desktop monitor. Not that it really is better than 3,820 x 2,160, but it is a very common resolution and also has some advantages for PC games (which I still occasionally like to play). As powerful as my ThinkPad P51 is, games in ...

Re: Lenovo CES 2019

For the X300 and X301 I doubt that the crappy LCD panel was to save money, but instead to minimize weight and extend battery duration. Had Lenovo wanted to save money, they would have opted for 1280x800 or 1366x768. I would say it probably was chosen to save money. It was a custom made 13.3" 16:10 ...

Re: Lenovo releases new ThinkPad L390 & ThinkPad L390 Yoga with Intel Whiskey Lake CPUs

And everyone SAYS you gotta upgrade to the latest gen CPU....well I gotta say I have rarely told the difference between an i5-2540M and an i5-5300U. Of course that is the case. The i5-2540M is a 35 W CPU, while the i5-5300U is a low-voltage chip that only consumes 15 W. It is actually slightly slow...

It is true that OLED has some technical disadvantages compared with IPS LCD screens, but it wasn't dropped because of these small problems. It was dropped because Samsung stopped making the screens.

It is not very well known today, but IBM used to make its own displays under the brand-name IDTech. Notably, they made the IPS Flexview screens for late IBM ThinkPads as well as the "Big Bertha" monitor. IBM withdrew from the joint-venture, because it was unprofitable for them.

What I personally find more interesting about this device than the leather is the way the display rotates into a tablet (as seen in this video ). Also, there is the X1 Extreme / P1 as a 15.6 inch machine with dedicated graphics & no numpad, but if the T460p is already too expensive, these won't be an option. 2011 was the year when the NEC convertible laptop came out, meaning the 360° design was probably conceived in 2010, possibly even earlier. Kudos to Lenovo for recognizing that this was a good design before it caught on, but no, it wasn't Lenovo's idea. Read more carefully then, I wasn't referring t...
