Re: What are the best X1 Carbon (generation) Thinkpads?
@mikemex, X1 Carbon G9 has 1.5mm of travel, not 1.35mm. Also, speakers may not matter to you, but if you compare the speakers of the X1 Carbon G9 vs your earlier models, you will probably find that the X1 Carbon G9 is much better in this regard. This is also one of the weaknesses of the X1 Carbon G6...

Re: DIY T25 Experience
Such projects are always fascinating. One more thing you could do: The T470 had an optional Magnesium top cover. To me, this would be preferable to the standard PPS top cover used for these machines. - The whole laptop seems constructed upside-down compared to our favorite classic ThinkPads. Yeah, t...

Re: What are the best X1 Carbon (generation) Thinkpads?
If I went the generic route for replacement batteries. Would they work in the X1 carbon? I want to make sure there is no chip technology allowing only genuine Lenovo Thinkpad batteries. For the 6th generation X1 Carbon. What is the difference between the i5 and i7 8th gen CPU's? It looks like the i...

Re: What are the best X1 Carbon (generation) Thinkpads?
ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 6 (2018) is considered a sweet spot: - 8th gen Quad Core CPUs (huge performance upgrade over X1 Carbon G5 and earlier) - Old 1.8 mm travel keyboards (newer models are 1.5 mm travel) - Windows 11 compatible (if you care about Windows) I would not bother with X1 Carbon Gen 4 or ...

At this point, I would request to get it exchanged for a ThinkPad P1 G6. Clearly, there is something wrong with your unit if it fails again and again.

Re: Similar keyboard feel to X1 Carbon 6?
Keyboard feel is subjective, and it varies from model to model and from keyboard to keyboard. After all, Lenovo sources their keyboard from multiple suppliers. So there is no answer here that can be 100 %. What is for certain is that none of the newest models will provide the same travel distance as...

20KHS0800 is a special model, which is apparent because it lacks the usual country-code at the end of the MTM It seems to be some sort of Custom Model, because when submitted to pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/ it doesn't give you any specs, as it normally does. Re: P50/P51/P52/P53 Buying Advice
No ThinkPad made after 2013 uses the old "regular" height TrackPoint. P50/P51 are close though, because they used the Low Profile TrackPoint, the first reduced height version. This is is still very close to the original one. P52 uses the Super Low Profile version where the TrackPoint stick has a dif...

Re: P50/P51/P52/P53 Buying Advice
I owned both the P50 and P51. I do not recommend either of these with the 4K screen, the Sharp screen used in these has some issues with an uneven backlighting. It is a shame, because the P50/P51 have excellent 2.1 mm travel keyboards. The ThinkPad P52, which is the model I would recommend, has a di...

Re: Which current Lenovo desktop would be the modern-day equivalent of the original IBM PC?
My vote would be for the ThinkStation over the ThinkCentre. Its a more high-performance, more high-end and more expandable product line. The ThinkCentre line has mostly gone in the direction of small form factor desktops, which makes sense for office PCs. The ThinkStations are more traditional tower...

Re: Ultimate list of Thinkpad machines which were of key importance...
I would name the following models (not limiting myself to IBM): - 600: The 600 is famously the forefather of the ThinkPad T series and it marks a huge change for ThinkPad design - screens were starting to become bigger and the machines slimmer, moving away from the original "Bento Box" aesthetic of ...

*Exceptions appear to be P1 Gen 4 and X1 Extreme Gen 4, these still have full-size keyboard. Also Z16. Z13 technically has a full-width keyboard with vertically smaller sixth row keys so not quite full-size - however, it is the only full width keyboard on a ThinkPad below 16 inch - except for the E...

You do not have a one-off, every T16 is like this. In fact, every new gen ThinkPad is like this, except for the X1 series and the Z series. "Thunder Black" (also sometimes called "Vili Black") is the new color for ThinkPads going forward. Lenovo used a lighter color as that shows less fingerprints t...

Yeah, 2.5 inch drives are a dead form factor. It has been replaced by M.2 on all models in recent generations.
If the shop doesn't take it back, maybe you can buy an enclosure to use it as an external SSD.

Re: which Thinkpad to replace dead T440s
Model year corresponds pretty well with model number: - T450 = 2015 - T460 = 2016 - T470 = 2017 and so forth E and L series are cheaper model lines, like the ThinkPad R series of old. They may lack certain features and are more cheaply made in terms of construction and material quality. The docks in...

Re: ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 30th Anniversary Edition
I think it all boils down to this: ThinkPads are made for corporate customers, not individual customers. If they were made for individual customers, I have no doubt a "retro" line would be a mainstay in the lineup. After all, one big trend in many industries in the past years has been "retro" and "n...

It is a good laptop, albeit I think the Alder Lake P28 series CPUs are a misfit here and that Lenovo should only offer U15 CPUs. In this case, the main advantage of the W541 (besides the TrackPoint buttons) are probably the four RAM slots. That alone can be enough of a reason to prefer it over the T540p for sure, because you can upgrade it more and for less money.

I am a bit surprised how much like my T540p it is though. It's going to bit of a difficult time for me to deciding whether to keep both or to consolidate into one and get rid of the other. Well, they do share the same chassis. Only real design difference on the outside are the dedicated TrackPoint ...

Safe to assume there is no cross compatibility there. Re: Thinkpad P16, P1 Gen 5, X1 Extreme Gen 5 GPU Replacement
Of the 2022 ThinkPads, only the ThinkPad P16 has a modular GPU, X1 Extreme and P1 have soldered GPUs. Be aware though that it isn't really meant to be "user upgradable". These are proprietary parts and Lenovo only sells them at very expensive prices as replacement parts, not as upgrade parts. Also, ...
