Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

@ajkula66, this project doesn´t exist because of complaints. It exists because our friend Jin Li aka lead_org personally convinced David Hill at CES 2015 to pursue this idea and then he convinced the Thinkpad product management people that they should at least give it a try with the initial blog and...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

Well, maybe you can just write one sentence stating that it's been decided to let the project into stealth mode. One sentence. Is that too much to ask ? There have been multiple occasions like on CES 2016 where he stated that they are still working on it. Which was probably the only thing he could ...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

You know what would be an even more terrible hardship for the "paying premium customers" (many of which probably didn´t buy a new ThinkPad for a long time)? If there would never be a Thinkpad with a 7 row keyboard again. No one else but Lenovo can do it, because they own this brand. No one else can ...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

Well, maybe you would. But David Hill is working on ThinkPads as a designer since 1995. You think he is going to abandon his lives work so easily? Big companies are complicated and there is always politics involved in all of it. David is on the side of the ThinkPad-users. Other people maybe don´t ca...

I remember 10 years ago people asking why you'd want internet on your phone being that the screen is so small, but can you imagine being without it now?
To be fair, phones have become a lot faster and the screens have become a lot bigger. With 5.5" screens and bigger, its more like a mini-Tablet.

New book about ThinkPads

There is a new book about ThinkPads from Arimasa Naitoh, who is often called the "father of the ThinkPad" for his role in developing the first ThinkPad and subsequent models. The book is called "How the ThinkPad Change the World - and Is Shaping the Future" and it is available at the usual places li...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

ODDs will be gone everywhere soon. There are only three systems left in the Thinkpad lineup, L570, E570 (so 15" budget) and P71. Even the P51 as a non-Ultrabook doesn´t have an ODD/UltraBay. Lenovo used this space for other things, P51 has two 2.5" bays as standard, it also has a 90 Wh battery that ...

Re: I hate numeric keypads. Am I the only one?

They already must have a lot of tooling in place to accommodate all sorts of different layouts for different country options. Why is it so hard to have one more without a numeric keypad? Its not that easy. The different language layouts don´t require a different palmrest. If you want to do a keyboa...

As far as I know, this is the first 3:2 Windows laptop. Not quite true, I think this one was the first: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huxW9ypPcTQ But the Surface Laptop is the first from a major manufacturer, no doubt. Huawei also introduced a 3:2 Windows laptop shortly after the Surface Laptop a...

Its not a Notebook, its a tablet with an attachable keyboard, so essentially a Surface clone. There are many surface clones with 3:2 displays, so its not really something special.

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

Looks really nice. I like the styling but I wonder how upgradeable/repairable it is. This was the main reason I fell in love with ThinkPads many years ago. With a little luck, it's not going to have soldered RAM etc. Quite expensive for what you get too. Its not at all upgradeable or repairable. RA...

Yes, golf tee = soft rim. This is what the corresponding survey looks like: http://i.imgur.com/1WJoXIq.jpg So Soft Dome was the preferred choice in the survey. I don´t know for sure. But my guess is that the Lenovo management mandated that there should be no information for the public because of Lenovos policy for upcoming products (NDA etc.).

Re: Lenovo removes 'soft rim' and 'classic' trackpoint caps and only sells low profile (TrackPocalypse)

Companies are complex entities. There are always people with differing opinions. I think the upper management of Lenovo did not expect the strong response to the surveys and in the media, which really left them no choice but to actually pursue the project.

Re: Lenovo removes 'soft rim' and 'classic' trackpoint caps and only sells low profile (TrackPocalypse)

This decision was made a long time ago when Lenovo decided not to release Soft Rim and Classic Dome for the Low Profile TrackPoint. 2012 was the last year when ThinkPads with regular height TrackPoints were released. 5 years is the time-frame of support for ThinkPads, this support is over now, which...

Yes, the Touchscreens has no pain points, except the slightly higher price and the extra power consumption you mentioned.

Re: T470 Screen - touch vs non-touch - how are they different

Some misinformation in this thread. Usually, a touch screen will be a bit darker than the identical non-touch version of the screen due to the additional sensitive touch layer that has to be added on top of the panel itself. Expect to lose between 20-40 nits of brightness because of it, which would ...

That's true, if you pose the question directly "do you prefer a thinner or a thicker machine". But that's a misleading question. The right one would be - "do you prefer a thinner machine with less functionality or a thicker one with more functionality". Answers would vary more on that, and you'd ha...

However, it was replaced again this year, because customers overwhelmingly wanted Thunderbolt 3. Ethernet d...
