Re: So Who Actually Ordered?

Yes, the "proper" rollcages were long gone. I've replaced the W700 motherboard and I think about 50% of the weight goes to the solid chunk of metal. I opened up a T430s and found magnesium parts in there. An **40 machine is like the T4x machines, without IBM's superior engineering to keep it togeth...

Re: So Who Actually Ordered?

But both are far below that of T470 or X1 Carbon (270-290 nits) Not quite true: The ThinkPad T470 has a screen thats nominally 250 nits bright, just like the ThinkPad 25. You can get lucky or unlucky with the LCD brightness, with both you can get a screen thats a bit brighter than 250 nits or less ...

99% of screens produces now have the driver on the bottom. That means you must account for about an 1.25" on the bottom for the driver. People dont want 5/16" LCDs anymore.
Not only that, there is also portion of the chassis that unusable as screen surface-area because of the hinges.

Nobody complained too much when LG did this How come everyone complains about this with Dells XPS 13? Literally one of the biggest complaints about that machine. instead of the 14 inch 12.20x6.86 (16x9) screen they could have put in a 14.7 inch 12.23x8.15 (3x2) screen That would look very awkward w...

That remains to be seen, since the PWM was not present on the T470 that was tested by Notebookcheck, yet showed up its ugly face on the T25.
Might be an issue for some people, but it isn´t a bug as much as it is a difference between different display panels. Some use PWM, some don´t.

No worries here. After all, it is based on a T470, a model available on the market for months now. So most if not all issues should be ironed out by now.

Re: Time to crowdfund the real ThinkPad: let's see how badly we want it

I think I have said this before: What the Lenovo Management cares about is money. So, if the fans actually manage to collect enough money (which might be a few million US-dollars, so that will be difficult enough), maybe Lenovo would take it. There is no reason for them not to, money is money, no ma...

Re: Time to crowdfund the real ThinkPad: let's see how badly we want it

Here I'm assuming that the Crowdfunded Thinkpad is a community project, without any link to Lenovo. It can´t be a ThinkPad without any link to Lenovo. There will never be a "Community ThinkPad", because actually designing a Notebook (that works well and isn´t a pile of ruble) is way too complicated...

+actually a Thinkpad. The question is what your qualifiers for that are. Obsolete features like lid-latches? The "Clamshell" design, which isn´t very pronounced on the X301 either? The WiFi and HDD Status LEDs and the ThinkLight? Not really sure what makes the X301 more of a ThinkPad than the Think...

Re: EU seems to be in danger...

Let's face it...a bunch of people who have done little but harm were elected using a "proper" one person one vote rule. Both Hitler and Milošević fall into that category. Not to mention quite a few in between, or after... Hitler (or rather, his party, because we vote for parties in Germany, not per...

Re: EU seems to be in danger...

The electoral collage is needed to give influence to small states. The president is POTUS to all the states, not just the big ones. More states wanted Trump and that's why he got elected. I have seen this argument a thousand times now, but its not true. All the electoral college does is give influe...

Re: EU seems to be in danger...

I think I have heard once that the purpose of the electoral college was to make the election possible at all. The T470s also has other limitations. Namely, its battery-performance is less than stellar and it doesn´t have a replaceable, expandable battery (which people voted for after all in the Retro polls).

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

What really are the differences between a T470 motherboard and a T470p motherboard? Dimension-wise mobos should be identical, so use T470p. The differences are huge, almost as huge as between the T470s and the T470. For one, the T470p doesn´t have an internal battery, which means its internal layou...

I would say its mostly a tie, but the T430 keyboard has backlit which gives it a slight edge for me at least.

The L420 keyboard is just like the T420 keyboard in quality, only 6 row instead of 7.

The most obvious things about that keyboard are the classic key-shape and the (nearly) classic layout. But I bet that otherwise it's still a chicklet keyboard with built-in backlight. If its a classic key shape, it can´t be a Chiclet keyboard. The key mechanisms are the same anyways, so the key sha...

@summilux, At some point the lineup becomes too big and bloated. I don´t think the premium market is big enough to warrant all those different lines. @summilux, the problem is that you are massively overestimating the size of the Premium-market. There is only one T-Series model that can really be considered truly premium and eve...
