Re: Lenovo CES 2018

Since the T480 is largely the same as the T470, it should be possible. But then the question remains of the keyboard will work and if not, how you will get it working. The 2018 lineup so far (P series is still missing and won't be released until early Summer apparently) looks good. Its great that Le...

Re: Question regarding benchmark performance and the T25

Its really not that important. Dual-Channel is most important for the performance of the iGPU - but the Thinkpad 25 has a dGPU, which kicks in if you really need extra GPU performance.

Re: Thinkpad 25 vs T410, T430s, Yoga 14 (PICS)

Nice comparison! :thumbs-UP: One small thing: The glowing red dot on the palmrest was first introduced with the SL-series and carried over to the Edge series. The Yoga 14 is a descendant of the Edge series*, which explains the glowing red dot on the palmrest. When the glowing red dot was introduced ...

Re: T25 keyboard bezel to make T470 a 7-row?

As far as I have heard from people who tried, Lenovo only sells the ThinkPad 25 keyboard to someone who owns the ThinkPad 25 - and it costs 300 $.

The best choice if someone wants a ThinkPad 25 keyboard seems to be to buy the ThinkPad 25 while its still available.

Re: So Who Actually Ordered?

Other then that is there a reason why it's $1800.00? Its a brand new ThinkPad and its a very high-end config of the T470, which sells at the same price without coupons. Lenovo isn´t selling new machines at a loss. I thought it was going to be like the 14" standard non wide screen and very much like...

Re: R500 current equivalent?

If he is OK with the Macbook keyboard, I would suggest the W530 or T530 instead of the W520, no reason to buy the older model if the keyboard isn´t that important. W530 and T530 are currently the last ThinkPads with a 15" screen and no numpad.

There were also a lot of them who wanted a real keyboard.
Apparently not enough to make Lenovo rethink their decision (which they would have, if companies really complained about it in mass).

Re: Lenovo’s upcoming non-ThinkPad business laptop leaked

Not sure whether Lenovo 3000 was targeted to (small) business. I think it was rather Edge that has trackpoint. Lenovo 3000 was Lenovos small business effort long before ThinkPad Edge was announced. You can see this here in an old commercial where Lenovo talks about which Notebook line is right for ...

Re: Lenovo’s upcoming non-ThinkPad business laptop leaked

As some of us already predicted, Lenovo is going to kill original ThinkPad design including trackpoint slowly. This is first attempt. Only if you want to pretend that this V-laptop is a new thing. Lenovo has had this sort of "small business laptop" line for years, starting with the old Lenovo 3000 ...

Then at some point, the average consumer got educated on panel technology Unfortunately, I don´t think that this is true. After 2010, Lenovo really started pumping out more Notebooks and extended their reach in the mainstream Consumer-sector. My highly opinionated view Its a bit of an oversimplification. The reason why the quality declined is that the prices of PCs started to massively drop in the late 90s: https://www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/Notebooks/News/chart.jpg Which ultimately is also the reason why IBM got rid of the PC-busi...

The Retro was a concept and not a product and screen ratio was a major part of the concept. Surveys were used to define the concept. David Hill created a concept before any surveys were done. It should be renamed T25-SE The official name of the product is "ThinkPad 25 Anniversary Edition" already. "ThinkPad Retro" is just the codename for the project. Yes, the "proper" rollcages were long gone. I've replaced the W700 motherboard and I think about 50% of the weight goes to the solid chunk of metal. 99% of screens produces now have the driver on the bottom. That means you must account for about an 1.25" on the bottom for the driver. People dont want 5/16" LCDs anymore.
Not only that, there is also portion of the chassis that unusable as screen surface-area because of the hinges.

That remains to be seen, since the PWM was not present on the T470 that was tested by Notebookcheck, yet showed up its ugly face on the T25.
Might be an issue for some people, but it isn´t a bug as much as it is a difference between different display panels. Some use PWM, some don´t.

I think I have said this before: What the Lenovo Management cares about is money. So, if the fans actually manage to collect enough money (which might be a few million US-dollars, so that will be difficult enough), maybe Lenovo would take it. There is no reason for them not to, money is money, no ma...

Re: Time to crowdfund the real ThinkPad: let's see how badly we want it

Here I'm assuming that the Crowdfunded Thinkpad is a community project, without any link to Lenovo. It can´t be a ThinkPad without any link to Lenovo. There will never be a "Community ThinkPad", because actually designing a Notebook (that works well and isn´t a pile of ruble) is way too complicated...
