Re: Time for a "what distro are you running" thread...

After coming to my senses and NOT selling my T440P, I installed an FHD screen and then Debian Buster w/ Gnome.

Loving it. I'll eventually get around to installing Openbox and one of my old configs, but she's running so well. Glad I kept her!

FS (USA) : Solid T440P example (multiple upgrades)

Withdrawn.

I came to my senses and ordered up a 1080p screen. Not giving up on this one. It's a beaut.

Re: This T440p is the most boring laptop I've owned...

Upgraded my CPU last night to an i7 4700.

Still say this laptop is boring. Aside from having to run out for rubbing alcohol to clean the heatsink, this took 5 minutes, little effort, and no issues.

This is the way laptops should be made.

Re: T440p CPU Upgrade suggestions

I am considering the CPU upgrade as well now. Currently, have the i5 4300. For those that have done it, I see the biggest bang being going from 4300 to the 4700 at about $65. Is the 4900 worth it for another $60-ish on top of that, or is it diminishing returns? *** Edit *** Went with the 4700mq. Fig...

I guess mine isn't totally boring. It has the trackpad mod and backlit keyboard. Plus... 3 SSDs, so I have redundant redundancy.

This T440p is the most boring laptop I've owned...

Which is exactly why I love it. It just "looks" like a laptop. Nothing crazy. It just "works" like a laptop should.

No bells, no whistles, just some rock solid Linux running goodness.

WTB: Battery(ies) for T440p

After doing so many mods to my T440P, I am using it more. Which means I need a second battery.

My adventure in buying a battery on Amazon failed, so I figured I'd see if anyone here had anything for sale.

Please let me know if you do.

Re: Time for a "what distro are you running" thread...

As of today, I am running vanilla Debian. With three SSDs installed, I plan to triple boot soon, but have been lazy.

I may flirt with Enlightenment again soon. It's always fun.

Re: T440p Battery Vendor/Replacement

Back to square one on the battery front. The one I ordered had a very poorly/shadily worded item description. T440p was listed in all of the models it DOESN'T work for. By the logic they used, they should also have other things it doesn't work for like potatoes, toaster ovens, ferrets, etc... Still ...

T440p Battery Vendor/Replacement

I am now very happy w/ my T440p after my mods, but a new battery is in the cards for battery life. Any suggestions on replacement batteries. I am partial to Amazon Prime (because impatient), but if that's not the best avenue, I am open to other suggestions too. **edit** Easy enough. Amazon had actua...

I never actually found a "perfect" how to, but watching what I did see helped. T440p Trackpad Mod

I could have sworn I watched a YouTube video tutorial of this mod, but now I cannot find it. Have a backlit keyboard and a trackpad on the way right now. The keyboard seems super easy, but I know the trackpad will be a little trickier. Does anyone have a link to a how-to on this? I am loving this mo...

Re: Time for a "what distro are you running" thread...

I installed Mint Debian Edition (w/ Cinnamon) on Wednesday and settled in on that for a couple of days while waiting for my new SSD to arrive. I've always liked Mint. I agree w/ Cigarguy as well. It's free. Distro hopping doesn't cost anything but a little time. Enjoy yourself. I plan on using the M...

Time for a "what distro are you running" thread...

I just picked up a new to me T440P. I am taking my time deciding what distro to run. I feel like I always default to Ubuntu due to ease and comfort, but am wondering who is running what on their Thinkpad? I just ordered an M.2 SSD, so I have a couple of days to play around before "committing" for wa...

Thank you for this. Asking price is way too high then.

I may go for a T430 or T440. The tiny footprint is not a necessity any longer.

Thoughts on the x240?

Over the years, I have slowly moved up the X series evolutionary scale. Currently, my x200 is my "toss in the bag and bang on the keyboard at Starbucks machine". I run various flavors of Linux on it depending on mood since I save nothing of significance on the SSD. There is a local surplus guy that ...

As far as skipping things in Architect, I kept missing steps like Create User Account or Setup Display Manager. I chalk it up to not paying attention. Arch linux is the way to go if you want the fastest, leanest, up to date system. The beginner's guide is very useful. Why I love Thinkpads (ease of use and Linux compatibility)

So I got my new/old Thinkpad in the mail today. X200 with no hard drive. Within minutes, I was testing it with Debian. Darn drivers though. Wifi never works. I tried installing Arch with Architect, but I kept skipping steps and having to do do-overs. I was avoiding running Ubuntu because I want ligh...
