X200 audio issues
I had posted a version of this issue in the Linux section (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=112964). I lose audio sometimes and need to either wait for it to randomly work aain or I plug in a USB audio dongle bought cheaply on eBay and this can work, the audio comes back to life. It do...

Re: Audio keeps failing (software issue) on X200
I'm attempting to sort of bump this as it's still proving a puzzle. I bought a usb audio dongle similar ot the one linked previously. When I got home today the sound had gone again, seemingly at random. I plugged the audio device in, slected it in alsamixer and the sound came back - but out of the s...

Audio keeps failing (software issue) on X200
This doesn't actually seem to be a Linux-specific issue although maybe the way the Linux driver was reverse-engineered explains why it's occuring with Windows 8 and Linux Mint. Sound keeps dying temporarily and I don't think it's a hardware thing. I have restarted sound by running a live CD and rebo...

Re: battery suddenly stalls charging at 85% (Win8)
I think things are fine now. I decided to reinstall Windows 8 as I was a bit concerned I had chaotic or incorrect drivers in place going by various behaviours. I manually installed the power manager the second time round rather than just okaying the install after running the setup file, using the Wi...

Re: battery suddenly stalls charging at 85% (Win8)
The Windows 7 Power Manager is refusing to run with Windows 8. I did okay it to run with compatibility settings when it griped but it still didn't work. I did an overnight charge and this did not stall at 85%. Weird stuff. I'll do another two overnight charges and hope for the best. I did notice tha...

Thanks, could you post me a link to the right Power Manager for Win8, all I can find is the driver. Helpful info though from you both, a good start.

battery suddenly stalls charging at 85% (Win8)
I've just bought a lovely X200. I tried Ubuntu on it first and then Windows 8. I saw it charge up to 100% twice I think, and I saw using BattStat that the battery has almost all it's intended capacity. This evening with both Windows 8 and Ubuntu (run on this second occasion from a live DVD where bef...

How does the X60/X60s/X61/X61s fan fare under Linux?
I had an X60s briefly but decided to pass it on to family. I'm thinking again of one for myself having got used to using Debian 7 but I really don't like being stuck with a lack of real fan control and the noise. I returned a T43 where the fan just didn't go off, common apparently, and my own non Th...

DVD glitches (w2k/ Mediamatics DVD Express) T22
After much experimentation I've decided to stick with Windows 2000 on my eBay bargain T22. Everything works better than with XP (still comparatively laggy even if setup 'like' W2K) or various Linux. The laptop is mostly used as a word processor and DVD player but a couple of times during a film it w...

X60s screen sometimes going black
I haven't been able to deliberately recreate this but in six weeks or so of owning an eBay-bought X60s I've twice touched some area of the lid to move it only to see the screen go off. The machine stays on, with all activity lights staying as they were, but Fn and any plausible-looking function key ...

Re: T22 and DOS of some description as DVD player?
Comical finish... I installed and was delighted with GeeXboX 1.0. I watched half a film and then decided to try a newer version. While my back was turned downloading it the Thinkpad died. Will not turn on, no lights at all. I expect it's a coincidence and that it was the machine's time being eleven ...

Re: T22 and DOS of some description as DVD player?
That's promising, the console-only Linux. I like the sound of that frugalism, after four years of Aero and Compiz. If I could get my 1980s manual typewriter to play DVDs... The T22 isn't so bad and does actually play DVDs well even with Linux Mint, the latest version, but the rest of the screen just...

T22 and DOS of some description as DVD player?
Ideally I'd like to install MSDOS or a free alternative and a DOS-based DVD Player program. This laptop compared to my X60s and my desktop pc is pretty grim, so I'd just like to use it to watch films, being one of these people that doesn't have a TV. This seems simpler than getting hold of full Wind...

Ubuntu 12.04/Mint 13 and X60s - brightness controls issue
If I use the applet for adjusting brightness, there are maybe 25 positions along a line for the slider to change screen brightness. Using the Fn and function keys there are only three levels for me. This is whether using Ubuntu 12.04 with Unity or Linux Mint with Cinnamon. At a guess I'm going to ha...

6 cell battery questions
I've just got a very cheap X60s with still over five hours of battery life, 8 cell. Do the six cell batteries jut out at all at the back? (I'm not so bothered about the bottom.) Additionally if anyone could guess well, when I actually need the battery, writing and stuff in a cafe usually with just a...

If someone's using XP/W2K and a T2x here...
I just wanted to check something. Today I've fitted a new LCD back cover to my T22. It was a bit hairy for someone who wouldn't have opened up a laptop a few months ago but it has worked fine. I have XP on this laptop with the Windows Classic theme and there is about .75mm or 1/16" of black under th...

Re: T23 FrankenDrive
After a bank holiday-delayed wait the class 10 SDHC card (rated 45mb/s) came. I'm afraid it hasn't proved fast enough either for this job. Using hdparm -tT /dev/sda the first speed was roughly between the 133x Compact Flash card another used here and the class 4 SDHC card. The second figure was only...

ultrabay cd and dvd drives T series
As these seem to be standard laptop hard drives with some bits screwed on, I was going to try and snap up the next drive I see cheap on eBay and screw the ultrabay fittings on, but it occured to me that the slot at the back might vary. A few drives on eBay list 'pata' in the description and I'm gues...

I was going to attend to the fan anyway but wanted to ask - should both a thermal pad and thermal paste be used, or just the pad as currently present?

strange non-audio squeaks and crackles T22 & XP
I'm thinking this must be driver-related as it has only bugged me now that I'm using XP (on this 900mhz, 512mb T22). Somehow some inner activity is feeding into the audio, noticeable when using the trackpad/pointer (old style without touchpad) but also when programs are opening and so on. If I plug ...

VLC DVD audio stutter & T22 (Windows 2000)
I must be near the final few furlongs of getting my 'new' T22 optimised. It's doing best of all with Windows 2000 but I have everything I need working well except audio during DVDs. On the Lenovo site there is an 'upgrade' for DVD Express which sounds like it may have come with the T22 when new. It'...

Re: update bios for T22 without Windows?
That's a relief. Looks like it has to be 32 bit Windows though as it hasn't worked with my 64 bit Windows 7 machine & floppy. Looks like I'll be installing 32 bit on a spare disk on another machine to do this, ha. Or, I've got some boot disk isos for older Windows - is that like a skeletal DOS that ...

update bios for T22 without Windows?
Can this be done? I've flashed BIOS before but those available on the Lenovo site are .exe files. Is there a way round the job without reinstalling Windows? There is a 2004 BIOS for the T22, and mine has a 2001 BIOS so ideally I suppose I should. Currently running Xubuntu 12.04.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: New T22 user, couple of q's - maintenance/fan/memory/Linux
I thought I'd add the resolution to my thread in case of use or enthusiast's interest... My T22 is now settled with new battery, healthy used drive and doubled memory, plus Xubuntu 12.04 which it handled okay-ish with 256mb and now very satisfactorily with 512mb. Two sticks of pc100 came today from ...
