Re: WTB: Wireless USB adapter (43Y6501)

... And an alternative here (!) is that I've found one on eBay US for $7.95 including US postage only... Postage, however, seems over-priced to the UK. If any of our US friends would be willing to purchase this on my behalf and forward it to the UK using the cheapest service that would be a real help!

Fingerprint Reader At Boot

Hello! I'm aware support for the fingerprint reader on an X200s is not good under Linux. None the less, I'd still like to use that functionality - I was hoping I could use it instead of a BIOS password (i.e., at boot, before operating system therefore hopefully operating system independent). Is this...

If there is genuine interest in shipping this please do make contact - I think it's clear so far that finding a buyer for a niche device is hard enough without having to restrict it further be stating collection from London (only). It's still my preference but I'm still keen to keep this away from e...

Re: FS: Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds *RARE* Dual Screen Laptop Workstation

Hello, To help me read between the lines, are you suggesting the pricing is unrealistic, or...? I appreciate this is quite a niche machine which is why I have been trying to avoid eBay (that and fees, plus the horror stories that I hear!). In addition, I was clearing out some other equipment at the ...

Re: Price Check: Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds [UK]

I never did get around to listing this/selling it. Other than the occasional boot to do Windows Updates this unit is still working fine. Can you recommend the best place to go about selling it? I appreciate it's a pretty niche machine. It does not help, further, that I'd rather do a face-to-face sal...

Price Check: Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds [UK]

Hello! Can anybody help to value a ThinkPad W700ds? The item is located in the UK and is a UK model with the corresponding keyboard layout and charger. The overall condition is good but not 'mint'. There is one minor area of 'damage' to one of the grill pillars and has the usual marks to the rubberi...

LF: X200s (1440x900) or X201s

Hello, I am after an X200s or X201s in search of a small device with a high resolution display. After mistakenly looking for a T61p or similar I think I've come to realise that as nice as they are they do not suit me needs. I am based in the UK. If the device has a US keyboard I would not require th...

Quick Path and Parts Lookup Conflict

Hello, I am currently researching a unit I am considering buying. I have been given the Type and S/N from the seller. I put these into the Quick Path and one of the specifications is the display: "12.1in 1440x900 LCD". When I put the same details into the Parts Lookup it states the display: "FLT PNL...

Re: X200s Questions

Hello! Thank you very much for your very useful reply. To answer your questions: Yes I genuinely do have a want (and need) for WWAN. No I do not have a need for UWB it was simply that (because of the low price) I thought about populating the final slot - With the only 'factory' option of Turbo Memor...

Re: X200s Questions

So what do you plan/need this laptop for? Seems like the purpose is to fill in every hole and/or slot this thing has but for what end? For example, most people don't need a WWAN 3G/4G card because 1) wireless a/b/g/n is readily available and 2) the extra monthly cost for maintaining another sim car...

X200s Questions

Hello, I am considering purchasing an X200s. It is not in the best of state physically but it does have a 1440x900 screen and, according the the quick path, is WWAN upgradable. It's certainly enough to have my interest to begin with... But, some questions: 1) Does the WWAN upgradable mean that the o...

Re: WTB: ThinkPad T61p (But open to ideas for other models) [UK]

If cost is a concern then I'd look at a T61 with Intel graphics, all the cheap T61p models will be older ones with the less reliable gpu chips. Also, the Intel graphics has excellent support in linux environments. Thank you for the advice - It seems like a good idea! At the moment I'm considering c...

WTB: ThinkPad T61p (But open to ideas for other models) [UK]

Hello, I am after an inexpensive ThinkPad for use as my machine while I enter the world of playing with Linux for the first time. Re: Start Menu Shortcuts Needed - Urgent!

It really would be time consuming - if at all possible - and it also does not help if the shortcut calls the executable with a switch (e.g., -silent or whatever). I appreciate the fact you do not think you can help but even one or two from the list might help me. If you cannot do this though, I full...

Re: Start Menu Shortcuts Needed - Urgent!

Yes, that's correct. But many of the folders have numerous executables (e.g., presumably for tray monitors, the actual application, etc, etc) and in many cases the filenames do not make it obvious what the executable is (with respect to my previous list). I understand it would be a significant effor...

Re: Start Menu Shortcuts Needed - Urgent!

Maybe you can do a system restore to a point in time before you deleted it or... 1. the Start Menu folder is a "protected operating system file" and must be unhidden in Folder Options in the Control Panel. 2. right click on the start menu folder. it can be founs at C:\Users\your name\Start Menu and...
