Silly rough touch surface on the SL510... (Question!)

I just picked up an SL510 for $100, pretty much ready to go except some of the dimpled touchpad material is worn off. I was um...absentmindedly picking at it and made it worse. Now I notice it's not at all required for the touchpad operation. 1. Is it safe to remove this all together? 2. Can I just ...

Re: Probably the billionth CPU upgrade question (t60)

Either one of these: T5500, T5600, T7200, T7400, T7600. An SSD and RAM-upgrade to its max. of 3 GB are more improvement than replacing the T2400! Thanks, RAM is already at 3GB and he's running some hybrid SSD/HDD drive, I think the CPU is the main place to be going. I'll see if I can get one of tho...

Probably the billionth CPU upgrade question (t60)

I'll try my best to keep this brief: Got my brother's T60 here, runs a core (not 2) duo yonah @ 1.8 and is a bit slow. Now IIRC core duo kinda...sucked a bit, where as core 2 is better in most every way. I've looked up the socket with speccy and it says Socket 479 mPGA which *should* (can someone ve...

Re: refitting a 355c

thanks, I'll do that, but I don't see my model number listed on that page, so as a secondary thing, which should I be looking for, or will any of them work? from page 11 of the relevant PSREF http://www.lenovo.com/psref/psrefs_withdrawn.html http://pichost.biz/thumbs/viu1374790485x.jpg http://picho...

Re: refitting a 355c

That doesnt look anything like ram. More like a pcmcia memory card. I thought as much too, but it says 4MB and the machine does have 4MB RAM That were the RAMs of the old days! I have similar ones (albeit original IBM) for my 340CSE's, 755 and 360PE. I swear it *looks* like it'll fit, but do...

Re: refitting a 355c

Right so now that it's functional, next up on the list is to upgrade. having taken her a bit apart it's apparent that I'm going to need: a new battery a new CMOS battery a RAM upgrade (because 4MB is not going to work out for my goals) possibly a larger HDD processor? So, starting with the RAM, I se...

refitting a 355c

I just got a 355c from a friend for shipping, and while she'll turn on, well it's got a lot of issues. First the LCD screen can't actually be viewed head on, you have to look at an angle to make anything readable, which is fun. When I first powered it on it went to a screen asking me for the date, a...

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Sir? Sir have you checked to make sure the laptop is plugged in?

Re: Help breathing life into an old x41t

Edit: situation resolved, for whatever reason the keyboard was...dead or something, and this was preventing it from turning on (what the *&^%). Removing the keyboard and using the power button on the screen bezel works flawlessly. Welp, off to get a new keyboard.

Help breathing life into an old x41t

Recently got a broken one, to do list is as follows: Get it to turn on (kind of a big thing...maybe) new backlight for the LCD RAM upgrade SATA mod the mobo and put a 64GB SSD in it ??? So the thing wouldn't turn on, I'd get a battery charging light and that's it (checked the power supply with a mul...

Re: Upgrading x61t w/ xga screen and digitizer only to touch?

^Thanks for the help, guys. The yellow-ish color is either due to nicotine from the previous owner (but you'd have smelled that by now, so unlikely), or it is due to age of the screen. A new CCFL might solve the problem. Get it e.g. here: http://www.ccflwarehouse.com/ I have a spare X41t digitizer p...

Re: Upgrading x61t w/ xga screen and digitizer only to touch?

So, I won the auction, the screen came, and I've put it in. Two things: A: the digitizer pen is trying to "click" constantly now, it tracks the pen movement across the screen fine. I think it may actually be broken though, perhaps just buying a new one will fix this B: the screen looks...yellower? I...

Re: Upgrading x61t w/ xga screen and digitizer only to touch?

you could probably swap the digitizer or whole screen with something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/13N7205-12-1-LCD-Digitizer-IBM-Lenovo-X60-X61-Tablet-13N7202-SU-1208E-01X-Touch-/160794635400?pt=US_Laptop_Screens_LCD_Panels&hash=item25701b6c88#ht_1169wt_1396 keep in mind that the X61 only had...

Upgrading x61t w/ xga screen and digitizer only to touch?

I have an x61t w/ the low res screen and pen input only. I am wondering if it's possible to upgrade it somehow to be like the model with multitouch. So far google has turned up fruitless. Is it possible to buy a screen with that capability and just put it in?
