I have a question about using the battery efficiently. When I have access to AC power and also the battery is fully charged, should I remove the battery from laptop and connect the AC power to it or it is better to use the battery?

I have a W520 and I have a problem with it recently.
"Fn+Spacebar" does not work on my laptop and when I press these keys the laptop makes an error beep. It used to work well when I bought it but now it doesn't work anymore!!! Can somebody help me to fix this problem?
