curiosity got the better of me and I tried the t430 ips kit in the e6420. shorted the charger and when i plugged the adapter back into the thinkpad it no longer works, so, whoops. Doesn't work. At least check the pinout before connecting them together. Seems like you didn't, and well...you wrecked ...

That device simply routes the USB signals on the mini-PCIe slot to a Type-A USB port. If the mPCIe slot your your laptop has USB signals wired in (the WLAN slot on older models like the T60/T61 and X60/X61 don't) and have a USB flash drive than can physically fit in that adapter, then it will will w...

Re: Best gaming mobo for no gaming
Yeah that's what I was suspecting: 4k images are easy. Lots of machines can do that. 4K video, not so many. If you're looking for something cheaper, try looking for a mini PC with an Intel N100 CPU, a little quad-core chip built with the E-cores of an Intel 12th gen processor. Its built-in graphics...

If you want to watch 4K videos, a laptop or mini PC with a Ryzen 6000U series or Intel 11th gen processor will get you far. Re: ThinkPad T470P Upgrades
But the question is then, say upgrading a i3,i5 BGA processor to a same gen BGA i7. Would that motherboard read that CPU or not, as the motherboard bios was probably only programed to accept that i3 or i5 processor only and no bios update would exist to read the higher chip as you are not supposed ...

Re: T460s - No 3.5mm jack audio output, but working speakers and jack detection
Some thoughts 1. It's possible that the Realtek sound chip is mostly working, but with nonfunctional parts. I was given a Sound Blaster Live which worked great except for the bad line inputs. Since the owner liked to record music from his vinyl records, it was useless for him. So I helped him find a...

Given that the TP25 --> T480 conversion mod works (albeit with some caveats), and the TP25 and T470 system boards are interchangeable (someone on this forum already did that), IMO a T470 --> T480 conversion is all but guaranteed to succeed.

The T470p and T470 chassis is not the same size (e.g., https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=131236). the candidate machine is the same screen size, but I think it's XGA. It has to be the same resolution as well? Yes. If you check the Parts Listing at the end of the R50/R51 Hardware Maintenance Manual , you'll see that each variant (XGA, SXGA+, UXGA, QXGA) has a different FRU/part number for the LC...

T490 is a completely different platform from the T470. * Its keyboard is from the T480s. * It has no provision for 2.5" HDDs/SSDs, only NVMe. * It has no battery bridge, only a large internal battery. Apparently T490 and T14 Gen 1 have the same chassis, but I haven't seen a T14 so I can't verify that.

EC --> embedded controller. This is a hardware component in the system board, and handles low-level stuff like the keyboard and battery (one of the EC firmware mods removes the lock that prevents X220/T420/T520/W520 batteries from charging in the X230/T430/T530/W530). It's interesting how Windows 11's support for 7th gen CPUs is limited to specific models, while some Skylake and Kabylake desktop variants make the cut. Compatibility criteria can be quite nuanced. There's a very specific reason for this, as mentioned in this Ars Technica article from 2021: If the ...

There's another option, though a bit excessive: external GPU setup either through the expresscard slot or the PCIe slot on the Advanced Dock (Type 2503).

AM5 is a bit expensive, but gives you a lot of upgrade potential. The new Ryzen 8000G APUs have relatively powerful graphics, with the Ryzen 7 8700G's built-in Radeon 780M within spitting distance of a GTX 1650. Probably not enough for Cyberpunk 2077 though. IIRC most budget AM5 builds make use of t...

There aren't any Lenovo docks with PCIe slots since then. Not even the T410-T430 generations (CS09) had that kind of dock.
That said, the T470 has a Thunderbolt 3 port, which opens up new options with regards to having an external GPU.

Laptops almost always have centrifugal fans.
Sample image:
Noctua only has axial fans (the typical PC fan design), the smallest of which is 40mm. https://noctua.at/en/products/fan/nf-a4x20-5v-pwm
IMO that's a resounding no.

The X301 has similar hardware to the X200 and T400 (late Core 2 Duo CPU, GM45 chipset). If it works on those, it will probably work on the X301.
