Re: Just got a 360CSE but faulty keyboard

Happy to help. :D

I know how bad STN screens are: we used a Compaq Contura Aero 4/33C before getting the 760XD.

Sounds good, did another search and found Zorin, will try that first.

Got a fan error on the X60s, very noisy also.
Clean and lubricate the fan. Sometimes it fixes the fan error.

Re: X61T SXGA+ IPS Panel into 14" T60?

The idea of fitting a small 12" display into a 14" shell is the most ludicrous thing I've ever heard. Not only is it not worth the trouble, but the outcome is so backwards. Might as well travel back to the 90's. I can think of two possible reasons why he wants to do it: 1. He's trying to make use o...

Re: X61T SXGA+ IPS Panel into 14" T60?

A major issue is connector and pinout compatibility: the X61T LCD panel has a 20-pin connector, while the T60 uses LCDs with a 30-pin connector. You need to fabricate an adapter cable to properly interface the two. Another issue is how to mount the screen on the T60's larger lid. And then you have t...

Now none of the drives will boot in any other machine without the 0x7B error.
1. Maybe "Use last known working configuration" can make them boot on other machines
2. You should select "Disable auto restart on failure" and take note of the details of the 0x7B error message.

Re: Time to crowdfund the real ThinkPad: let's see how badly we want it

^ Interesting idea. While the included processors in the Compute cards aren't particularly fast (Kaby Lake Core m3 and Apollo lake Celeron/Pentium), its other features (4k video decode, USB 3.0, HDMI and Mini Displayport output) are nice upgrades especially compared to Core 2 era Thinkpads. Re: Time to crowdfund the real ThinkPad: let's see how badly we want it

Many motherboard with dead CPUs and PCHs are being thrown in the garbage, but that does not mean we must have socketed CPUs and PCHs. The fact that you have a dead RAM stick means that RAM can die. I don't think you know what exactly happened to it causing the failure, so you can't say RAM fails so...

Re: Time to crowdfund the real ThinkPad: let's see how badly we want it

Granted, the RAM I see dying is usually cheap junk, and is several years old... but all the same, much more common than CPU failure. There's a malfunctioning Samsung 8GB DDR3L-1600 on my desk, which used to be in a friend's T440. Date code is 1415 (15th week of 2014). It's a stark reminder of how "...

You could try Android x86. It appears that it has a live ISO image (burn to DVD or use rufus to create live USB), so you can test it without needing to install it on the hard drive. Current stable version is based on Marshmallow, with Release Candidate builds for Nougat.

Re: An IBM NetVista Sleeper Build...

Nice build. :D You could replace the Velociraptors with an SSD to reduce heat, power consumption, and improve airflow (by freeing up space inside and reducing the number of cables). I've done similar builds for some clients. I usually get a black Netvista casing though. They're used for basic office...

Re: ThinkPad T61 Core 2 Duo P9500 installed - Sorta

IIRC you need to benchmark the CPU in order to determine if it's running at the correct frequency or not. I think the BIOS assumes/believes that the FSB is 800 when it performs the speed computation. that's why you think it's running at 1.9GHz. If you run a CPU benchmark, say 7-zip's compression tes...

Re: Wireless USB and Turbo Memory?

Turbo memory is a mini PCIe card that contains a small amount of flash memory (1-4GB) that can be used with Windows Vista's Readyboost caching feature. Basically, often-read data is copied to the flash cache, where it can be accessed much faster than the hard drive. It can be used to improve Windows...

I've checked the website of Manjaro Linux and it seems that only the 64-bit version is available for download: https://manjaro.org/get-manjaro/

This means it won't run on your X41, as it has a 32-bit processor.

It looks like the program/daemon that monitors the volume controls is malfunctioning/not loading. A quick search through Debian's package m...
