Re: T42p with R52 ATI board

I've transplanted the board from a 14-inch R52 into the chassis of a 14-inch T42. As RealBlackStuff said, the Firewire port has to go.

Also, keep track of all the screws and brackets.

While you have the laptop dismantled while applying new thermal paste, you can also lubricate the fan's axle/spindle.

@NonesensE

I doubt that a UXGA screen would work on an X61, as it only has 2 LVDS channels-- not enough bandwidth. UXGA-capable Thinkpads like the T61 have 4 LVDS channels.

Good luck web browsing with 256MB max RAM and 450MHz Celeron or 500MHz P3 processor.
Regarding wifi, try finding a Cardbus one. Same for USB 2.0.

I agree with ajkula66. Retrogaming is the most you can do with it.

I used to see those Dell Dimension Pentium 3's all over the place. I swear, they just had some monkey mashing the buttons on the label machine because every single one had a different model number.
They use the same casing for lots of models. Lowers production and inventory costs. :D

The built-in graphics on the T500 doesn't have decode support for webm. Webm uses VP9 video codec, while the GMA X4500 only has decode support for H.264 and MPEG-2.

IIRC others have attempted to jam in a 9.5mm drive in the 7mm slot, on the X220 and T420 (also applicable to the T430 as it has the same chassis as the T420). Worst case resulted in damage to the system board's SATA connector.

Not really a good idea. :BAAAD!:

I haven`t. I mean, this stock one on the right looks still better than panel in my T500. And this on the left looks superior, but I am wondering whether they came in matte finish also? ^ The T440 has a 7mm height HDD bay, as well as an M.2 2242 slot . In most configurations, there's a standard 2.5 inch HDD, while the M.2 slot contains a small 16GB SSD which is used as a cache. It can be replaced with a larger capacity SSD and used as the boot drive. Refer to the T440 HMM as well a...

Either the magnet was dislodged from its original position, or the sensor itself was damaged.

If it's the former, you just need to put the magnet back in place. Unfortunately I don't have a T530 so I don't know where it should be.

IIRC the kit has some interference issues with non-S models that hasn't been eliminated even after 3 or 4 revisions of the circuit board.

Note that the T440 and later don't have an mSATA slot, but an M.2 (NGFF) slot.
