It's true though. Why would America call a sport where the ball is always thrown or carried, FOOTball. It should be called handball.
Someone on reddit called it armpit eggball.

Re: Red vertical artifacts on X61s screen - no easy fix?

If the magenta artifacts appear even in the BIOS setup screens, then it's likely to be an issue with the panel. As for the video, it appears to be an Ultralight screen. Not all X60s and X61s have the Ultralight screen-- I've personally disassembled one equipped with the same screen as the regular X6...

I just sent MikalE a link to SlipStream...which would allow him to natively install WinXP on a AHCI system instead of install and switch which might interfere with the dualboot setup.
Ah yes, slipstreaming. Haven't done that in a long while (maybe a decade?).

Re: Best HDD configuration for W530

if it wasn't too popular then it is possible that manufacturers might have over-estimated demand, and produced too many! But this is all idle speculation. Only time will tell. There are only a handful of laptop models with mSATA slots, most of them released between 2011 and 2012 (maybe up to 2013)....

Do you know if the standard net install offers to enable sudo?
I don't remember the installer asking about sudo. Personally it's a good idea: I'd rather stick to a sane default config rather than an unsafe one. *cough cough Windows*

If you installed Win 7 in AHCI mode, then it will fail to boot in IDE mode.

There's a fix, but it involves editing the registry.

Re: Time for a "what distro are you running" thread...

Yes, non-free needs to be enabled in the sources.list file. For me, this is usually done during the initial OS install; when doing a net install with the advanced option, it asks if you want non-free software enabled by default. I do not know if it asks this when not using the advanced option. No i...

Re: Time for a "what distro are you running" thread...

I do the install over ethernet. During the install, debian generally detects your wifi chip and tells you the exact package you need to install (at least it does when doing advanced net install). Then its just a matter of, on my X200s for example: sudo apt install firmware-iwlwifi Then you can use ...

Re: IBM x41 with 778 Pentium M?

To make things worse, the GeForce FX Go5200 is slower than the GMA 950 in gaming. Wow, that's truly awful. Let's be honest here, Prescott was not a good architecture for its time, even with its hyper-threading capability. IMO all Netburst iterations (Williamette, Northwood, Prescott) were bad. On t...

Try putting the card in the WWAN slot. The WLAN slot in some older models do not have USB signals wired in.

Regarding the SSD issue: maybe a bit of Kapton tape on both ends of the cable will keep them in place?

Temperature issue: maybe due to the tropical climate? Try disabling Turbo Boost.

The T61p's CD/DVD drives are IDE, but the connectors are non-standard. I've yet to see an adapter to convert it to a desktop IDE drive. There used to be an external USB enclosure for it, but I doubt if any are still available.

Re: T440s - occasion - processor&price questions

The reason why the i5-4300U has a lower clock speed than your X220's i7-2640M is because Intel changed its focus to reducing power consumption (thus prolonging battery life). The i5-4300U has a TDP of 15w including the chipset, while the i7-2640M is more than twice that at 35w (chipset not included)...

I'd bet it's the processor, it'd be roughly four times as powerful. The speed of the storage might also play a role.
Not just the processor cores themselves, but the other parts inside the CPU like the integrated memory controller and GPU.

Uhh, there's no Thinkpad model Z61p. What you have is probably a T 61p. Re: Memory for T450?

If the RAM on your T430 is regular DDR3 and not DDR3L, then it won't work on the T450.

I'm not 100% sure if the T450 has two memory slots (the T440 before it only had one), so I suggest waiting until the T450 arrives before buying RAM.

Theres also the NetVista and ThinkCentre desktops which are mATX but they're pretty small so cooling would be an issue on high TDP processors. Nice build. It may be harder to pull off in an older casing (P4 era Thinkcentre/Netvista) due to them not having good air intake vents at the front.
