Re: W7/SP1 Windows Update stuck checking for updates

Here is a simple in-memory patch to reduce a little the time needed to check for updates. When there are many updates—like on last month's Patch Tuesday—it can probably save some hours; I don't know if it will be as useful tonight. Below is a copy of the Read me file found in the archive: Reducing ...

Re: IBM_ECW : Power management tool for T4x/R5x

Hello, It seems the structure I was using (defined in linux/kernel_stat.h) has changed since Linux 2.6. At first sight you can try to replace the offending code block by : for_each_present_cpu(i) { BusyTime += kcpustat_cpu(i).cpustat[CPUTIME_USER] + kcpustat_cpu(i).cpustat[CPUTIME_NICE] + kcpustat_c...

Re: IBM_ECW : Power management tool for T4x/R5x

This is most probably a false positive; I just checked the files and pages and they don't seem to have been tampered with. For reference, the current IBM_ECW.ZIP file's SHA1 is 7813B9B00F7C5B2868AD072339DA8D5C6A7CF3B6. PS: it seems this is not new; back in 2014 the IBM_ECW program (provided this was...

Re: IBM_ECW : Power management tool for T4x/R5x

Hi, “Test mode” is still required; I have been using it for over a year on my main computer (Win 7 x64) and it runs well, along with the option to remove the watermark on the desktop. Could you try to remove the service (“sc delete ibm_ecw”) and kill any remaining process (“taskkill/f /im ibm_ecw64....

Re: IBM_ECW : Power management tool for T4x/R5x

Update (ver. 1.0.7.2) uploaded on June 20, but I forgot to post the update here : — NVidia GPU clocks are now reported correctly (using NvAPI.dll) and can be modified without needing an external program; — added the AccessIBM/ThinkPad key as a possible hotkey (eg. “TPKEY” or “Ctrl-Win-TPKEY”); — inc...

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

Sorry for the delay; I don't have much time to work on this. I updated the file (the registry value is set/removed on installing/uninstalling the program and a Win10-compatible DWMAPI.DLL file is included) but there is nothing new… I just fixed a small problem where the color settings could be lost ...

Re: IBM_ECW : Power management tool for T4x/R5x

I probably did not express myself properly. I was referring to the interval between two clock interrupts. When this interval is low, the CPU is woken more often, so timers are more accurate (mainly useful for multimedia applications), but power consumption is increased. Thus by altering this value y...

@windows.nt.win32 : I have modified the program so that you can run it manually by renaming the file to “ClassicThemeA.exe” (be sure to run it with admin rights). @Lebowsky : I honestly don't know and cannot install the hundreds of Windows updates in my Win8 VM. Did you try to copy again the files ...

Update (ver. 1.0.7.0) : ► the system timer resolution (that programs can raise using NtSetTimerResolution — or timeBeginPeriod which in turns calls NtSetTimerResolution ; drivers can also raise it by calling ExSetTimerResolution) is shown and can be modified using a hotkey (or AC/DC rule) as follow...

OK the hotkeys are fixed ( as usual it was a stupid absent-mindedness ). Sorry you will have to set up your hotkeys again. But I don't know why the program is slow to (re)start. I just tried it again on XP, both service/non service and administrator/limited user and cannot replicate the problem. Sin...

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

I don't like the method of replacing the shell but I don't know how to do otherwise. I don't think it is possible to use a service. The issues are that : — the program has to be run inside the user session (the service could spawn a process in the user session space, so that's not a problem) ; — it ...

To answer your questions : The program does the following things : — When you log on, “ClassicTheme” is run by “UserInit” (instead of “Explorer”) ; it closes the memory mapping named “ThemeSection” in the “WinLogon” process — since this section was only opened by Winlogon it is deleted by the Object...

Re: New modified BIOS >> undervolt T61 Nvidia GPU via BIOS!!

I eventually decided to apply one of these modded BIOSes to my T61p (I was hesitant — afraid to brick my board…). I made several tests with different voltages and I am now happily running my QuadroFX 570m at 900 mV. It is not stable at the stock frequency under high load (it seemed to be stable at 9...

Re: IBM_ECW : Power management tool for T4x/R5x

The “WinRing0” version isn't up-to-date — though I don't remember why I decided not to update it anymore ; I may consider it again —, lacks the patching functions (“ACPI.sys” for the event log and “IntelPPM.sys” for the CPU voltage) since I can do it only with my own driver, and adds a little overhe...

Re: IBM_ECW : Power management tool for T4x/R5x

The problem is probably because Windows does not run in “Test mode”… Windows x64 requires that drivers be digitally signed by an approved certification authority. Since I have not bought such an (expensive) certificate, I had to create a test certificate. If you want to force Windows to accept a dri...
