I've been running W10 on both my T510 and W510 since last October and both run great.

Re: New motherboard; error(s) 2200 & 2201
You need to switch off completely (not restart/reboot), if you don't manage to press Escape in time. You should start hitting the Esc button the very moment you press the Power button. If you hit it in time, you should see some messages on your screen, after which it should boot into the HMD progra...

Re: W510: How to Change RAID to AHCI
Since nobody bothered to reply I figured it must be stupid simple. It was. I'll reset reset the situation just in case some knucklehead like me is befuddled by the same situation. I had installed a new mobo in my W510 and booted up. It booted up without incident but couldn't see the S.M.A.R.T. data ...

Geez! Here I thought that replacing the mobo was going to be the hard part! Do you hit "esc" one time or multiple times; or do you hold it down continously? The following is going to really date me:  As you probably know, making a bootable usb with the utility provided with the HMD doesn't wor...

Re: New motherboard; error(s) 2200 & 2201
It must be easier to find the current nuclear launch codes! Sheesh! With that out of the way, I was able to find version 1.83 and, with Rufus, (thanks for that too) create a bootable usb drive to with which I made the invalid uuid go away. However, I can't seem to get around the EEPROM write protect...

W510: How to Change RAID to AHCI
I replaced the motherboard on my W510 but it won't boot unless the SATA configuration in BIOS is set to RAID. If I set it to either AHCI or Compatibility. It will crash on boot up without leaving a dump and basically go into a boot loop. After I reset the SATA to raid it will boot but I can't use my...

New motherboard; error(s) 2200 & 2201
I just replaced the motherboard on my W510 and now when it boots up I get the following errors: 2200: Machine Type Invalid and Serial Number are invalid. 2201: Machine UUID is Invalid After that, it goes on to boot "normally". My research suggests that a it is possible to "Fix" this issue with softw...

2422-7VU is unknown. According to partslist you have mobo 60Y4463 which has ATI GPU. Don't know if switchable (should be), but check your BIOS under Config/Display if this option is there and if so, enabled or not. Sorry for the confusion. I transposed the the machine type numbers. It should be 224...

What do I have?
My T61P with the NVIDIA graphics died on me Friday. I was "under the gun" and wanted to get back up quickly and decided to replace it with another T series. I scored a "fixer upper" T500 (2422 7VU; R-8ERYV3 09/09) off craigslist. It recognized my T61p Windows 8.1 Pro system disk and booted up straig...

Re: Win 8 on a T60 / T61p
Windows 8 runs great on either a T60 or T61p with the following exception. With W8 RP Microsoft "broke" multi monitor support on the ATI FireGL V5250. Multi monitors worked fine on the T60 with both DP and CP. As for the Win8 tiled UI, it can be bypassed altogether. My favorite solution is a free ut...

Re: T61p Using a IBM 340 HDD, want to move to a T420
Has anyone tried to move a hard drive being used in a T61p to a T420? When I move the drive, the Windows 7 spash screen starts and then BSOD. Went thru the fix steps and still nothing. So, is there anything I can do to preload drivers so I can move this drive over ? Thanks. You can "Sysprep" your h...

I did some more poking around and found a recommendation for HWMonitor (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor/versions-history.html) which agrees with SpeedFan. Best Temperature Monitoring Tool
With my old T60p I had serious HDD and CPU heat issues until I started using an Antec USB dual fan laptop cooler with it. When I upgraded to a T61p, a docking station came with it. It runs much hotter with the docking station but TP Fan Control seems to keep the cpu and gpu temps around 60c at idle....

Re: How to disassemble the T61, re applying Arctic 5
. . . . When you're done run thinkpad fan control (tpfancontrol.com). At idle your temps should be in the low 60c degrees for the cpu a,d several degrees cooler for the gpu. The sign of a poorly fitted heatsink, or improper application of thermal paste is often high gpu temps. It's not abnormal to ...

You have a penryn board, but you may suffer nVidia failure at some point. I wouldn't be so worried about it dying because it was build in may 2008 as much as I'd be worried about where it came from. If it was an original corporate laptop that's never failed, then it may last ten years, but if it wa...

Re: Which Windows is best suited for the T61?
Just ordered Arctic 5 thermal paste and was wondering if the Win 7 32 isn't overtaxing the T61. Everything is going smoothly so far, for the most part, and I prefer the Win 7 interface. I was thinking though, that the more basic Win XP 32 might be less demanding on the system and would leave more r...
