That is good news. So which of the three BIOS updates did you decide to use, or did you use another one from elsewhere?

Re: memory upgrade

I upgraded my T60P to T7600 and 2x2GB Samsung RAM. Also hacked a T61 CPU cooler into it which dropped temps significantly. Performance is much better and I can run 64bit Linux with the T7600. Like Cigarguy said, the lame Intel 945 chipset only recognizes 3GB of RAM which limits performance, especia...

I obtained versions 1.45 and 1.46 last year from trusted uploader Serg008 on the MDL forums, and both have WLAN WList check removed + RAM Speed Unlocked. Re: need original recovery CD set ISO specifically for IBM ThinkPad A20m in English

I don't have another IDE drive but I can find one on ebay.... I needed some hard drives for some of my IDE based Thinkpads recently, and in the end it made more sense to buy some 128GB mSATA SSD drives + mSATA to IDE adapters from Aliexpress. I'm in the UK so it cost a total of £20 shipped, and too...

Biggest decision would be the keyboard. If you're like me and really love the classic Thinkpad keyboard then the highest series I can get is a T420/T520/W520, etc series.
I think the W520 keyboard can also be fitted to the W530, from what I have read here on these forums.

Re: What OS to install on A31p?

I'd look for a lite version of XP or 7. The other day I put Win 7 ThinPC (x86) on my sister's old Acer Aspire 5612WLMi, which admittedly is a faster computer, but I will be putting it on my Thinkpad T43p soon. This version of Win 7 I am using is so fast and responsive, and my sister's Acer went from...

Re: need original recovery CD set ISO specifically for IBM ThinkPad A20m in English

A quick search on the Internet Archive brought up no exact results for Thinkpad A20m, but there is this entry: IBM Thinkpad T23 Recovery (2002) I had a look on a site I have used for more than ten years, and found this: IBM Thinkpad T23 2647 Recovery CD Win2K (2x CDROM) P/N: 32P7176 Contains the fol...

Re: Z61m CPU Upgrade

I have three Z61p machines and they all have Core2 Duo T7600 CPUs, with 3GB RAM and SSD drives. One of them has a cheap Broadcom BCM70015 video card, so playback of 60fps 1080p videos are able to be watched. Another cheap upgrade that can be added to the ExpressCard/54 slot, is USB 3.0 / eSata, whic...

Re: T61 running Win10, returning to Win7, please help!

When installing Windows 7 Pro from scratch and then applying the updates, I use the Service Pack 1 single file download from the Microsoft site and then use WSUS Offline Update to add everything else. It neatly sidesteps most MS updating issues and filters out known bad updates. I've used this updat...

I've got Crucial BX SSD drives in my Z61p (same as T60p more or less) and X61 machines, and they perform brilliantly. From memory I think I put a 500GB model in the Z61p.

Re: Help With V5200 Drivers and OSD

Back in 2012/3 I never did get those Mobility Modder ATi Catalyst drivers to work on my Z61p v5200 equipped machines, and so I have stuck with the standard Vista drivers with Windows 7. Not sure with the modded drivers what I did wrong or neglected to do, but it just ignored the install and left it ...

IBM PS/2 Model 50 Z and more (From a former IBM employee)

I came across this recent YouTube video and thought people might enjoy it. The first 20mins is spent showing a few glossy brochures of IBM history, with some great old photos. The internals of the machine are shown next, and finally the system is powered up and demonstrated. IBM PS/2 Model 50 Z and ...

Re: X61s Will Not Power Up

A year or two ago I powered on my mum's X61s and thick plumes of smoke came out of the fan grill. I also think I remember a flash of light going from one end of the screen to the other, around the bottom of the frame (inverter?). It did not boot up and appeared completely dead. I took it all apart t...

Re: T60p Supposed to Feel This Slow

There was a period of time when Windows Update was broken and would never finish updating on some Win 7 systems. And there were some versions of Windows Update that seemed to cause some CPUs to run wild. I was never clear on what caused these issues. But I weathered through those crappy periods and...

That's good I did not realise that about the Ultrabay port on the W520. My older Thinkpads like my Z61p have the SATA to IDE conversion limitation, and therefore a lot slower.

I can confirm that under certain circumstances a dead battery (flashing battery indicator) in the T60 can cause random freezing and also lockups while booting. Remove the dead battery to test against this problem. Old thread, I know. But after swapping system boards for 3 hours I just want to share...

I forget where I bought my drives from as I vary this, so maybe CCL, eBuyer, Scan or Amazon etc. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07...

Did you remember to flash your BIOS to the latest one? Been a long time since I did my three Z61p (same as T60p) in 2012, but I flashed the whitelisted version when I went from T2500 to T7600 CPU.
