I often reply to old topics / threads too, usually because I am preoccupied with the question and answer, that I do not see the post date.

Re: OS FOR AUDIO

I have a Z61p which is the same family as the X60, and have a fairly complex setup for music writing and audio editing and production. My setup is a 50/50 split of rack hardware and software, with many items only having drivers upto Win XP. In my personal experience and opinion, XP is arguably the b...

Yes. It does exist. I've owned one many years ago. I think there are knockoff clones over on aliexpress but can not vouch for their worthiness. i've never seen an Ultrabay Enhanced battery on aliexpress, but i did manage to find some Ultrabay Slim batteries... could you link me an example if possib...

Re: Windows 7 or Windows 10 for X61s?

I came across a really good lite version of Windows 7 x86 last year, and it runs so fast and snappily on the 15 year old laptop I installed it on. This was on my sister's Acer Aspire 5612WLMi which only has IDE and has the same chipset as a T60p / Z61p I think. I put in an SSD and that made a big di...

DDR2-6400/PC2-800 SO-DIMMs run slightly cooler than DDR2-5300/PC2-667. Preferably get 2Rx8 sticks (printed on the...

The only thing I have not got working so far, is a Gigabit Network card via the Cardbus slot. It recognises the ...

As for SpeedStep it did not work. I'm not bothered about that though, and now that I have a working SSD drive in the G41 machine I am very happy with the overall performance. Re: Feeling proud of my mint condition G40.

The crazy high temps I experienced were due to me upgrading the CPU, and using the old aluminium silver heatsink intended for the Celeron D that was in before. Once I took that out and replaced it with a copper heatsink and cooler from a G40 with a P4 2.8GHz Northwood CPU, then the temps dropped rig...

I had two G40 machines that I have since sold, but I kept swapped out the heatsink from one, to use in my remaining G41 which I maxxed out with the best CPU for it. That copper heatsink does a fantastic job and turned the hottest running Thinkpad in my collection, into one of the coolest running. It...

In my Thinkpad Z61p I installed the Broadcom by removing the WiFi card, and using the slot for the video card instead. After that just download the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and use Windows Media Classic player that comes with it, to play high bitrate / fps / resolution videos on your T61. Up until lat...

Sorry I thought it was going to be used for more modern intensive games beyond the 1990s. I upgraded my T60P to T7600 and 2x2GB Samsung RAM. Also hacked a T61 CPU cooler into it which dropped temps significantly. Performance is much better and I can run 64bit Linux with the T7600.
