Re: T510 goes black in the beginning of Windows 7 install

Thanks! I just tried that but I still get the same problem. The loading screen shows up fine on my TV, but then still goes black afterwards. It's very odd because it's as if the Thinkpad restarts itself or something, because if I press the power button on the Thinkpad, it just instantly shuts off wh...

T510 goes black in the beginning of Windows 7 install

Hi! I'm installing Windows 7 on a T510 that I intend on using as a media streaming PC along with my flat screen TV. I took the screen off the T510 as it was broken. Along with this I also removed wireless and bluetooth cards as they weren't necessary. Now I am trying to install windows, but the scre...

Re: X201 no backlight

Finally got around to have a look at this. Is there a certain approach to apply when soldering the new fuse on top of the old one? When I finally manage to get my soldering iron into just the right spot, I cannot seem to get any type of solder to stick, and the fuse is so small that they are nearly ...

X201 no backlight

Hi, I recently bought an X201 with no backlight on the screen. I bought a replacement LCD for it and fit it today, unfortunately with the same results - the Thinkpad logo shows up slightly on the screen, but the screen is not illuminated. Everything works as usual using an external monitor. Since th...

Re: Upgrading a T520-not-so-i with an Intel Core i7 *PICS*

Nice write up and photos! :thumbs-UP: I came across a T510 that had a blocked rear vent as well. Guess it's an integrated graphics thing, perhaps it sucks air better? Thank you very much! Yes, I was keen to learn more about the blocked rear vent right after performing this hardware modification, bu...

Re: Upgrading a T520-not-so-i with an Intel Core i7 *PICS*

Even worse is when the huge bezel/palmrest all-in-one panel is also connected via a ZIF type connector like the one seen here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/00/ZIF_connector_and_FFC.jpg I loved the T6x and x500 models, as well as the T4x-series, where there was two parts: The palmr...

Re: Upgrading a T520-not-so-i with an Intel Core i7 *PICS*

Actually, if you take a close look at this picture; Only the large of the two black things on the fan is actually a heatsink. The other smaller piece is merely a piece of plastic for blocking the rear vent. The HMM lists two heatsinks for the T520: one for integrated graphics, and the other for dis...

Re: Upgrading a T520-not-so-i with an Intel Core i7 *PICS*

Lovely upgrade, and thank you for the thorough write-up and picture documentation. I am very happy with the standard cooling solution in this laptop, even though I discovered that the rear exhaust vent is actually blocked by a piece of plastic in the i-version of the T520. Is it blocked inter...

Upgrading a T520-not-so-i with an Intel Core i7 *PICS*

Bought a T520i roughly a month ago. It was specced with an Intel Core i3-2350M running at 2.3GHz with its two cores. It does feature HyperThreading, but no Turboboost. The laptop had 4 gigs of DDR3 RAM running at 1066MHz. Sporting an onboard graphics chip and a 1600x900 230 NIT display to keep the e...

Re: Requesting photo of T60-series roll-cage structure

Appreciate your answer. It doesn't matter if it's a T60, T61, T500, W500 or whatever else laptop has this configuration. I just want to show off the special hexagonic shapes of it, I already included a picture of the one in my T410 with the square holes, but the T6X was where it started for me, henc...

Requesting photo of T60-series roll-cage structure

Hi all. Hope you're all doing well, been a while since I've been on here. I'm doing a report on Thinkpads, and I'm looking to find a photo that shows the roll-cage structure of a T60-series machine. Ideally this photo should show both the roll-cage in the display assembly and in the body of the mach...

DIY Thinkpad lid?

Hello!

What material is the rubbery stuff used on the Thinkpad lids? Would it be possible to buy the stuff on its own in for example a spray can, and simply spray it on things that I would like that nice touch to it?

Thanks!

Thank you, guys. The 1600x900 screen is definitely the most noticeable, as I came from the 1280x800 screen on my T410. Also the screen has gotten really thin on the T420!

I have owned a Carbon X1, X200s's, an R60, an X220 and have tried out T420s and a later model X200s. What I have found is that all of the later Thinkpads create a sound that without one minute of operation causes severe ear ringing in my ears. The ear ringing can last for a day or more. I have used...
