What type of temps are you seeing? Download HWMonitor and report back what it reads for core cpu temps at idle and under load. You can run good old Prime95 if you want to stress test the cpu/system.

Best place for a lot of your questions is the Lenovo Outlet website. There's a chat feature where you can talk to a live rep and there's also a big write up on return policy.

Re: What can I do w/ my T61?

Not a fan of the 4965 wireless card. I found they ran hot and uses a lot of power which is not good in a battery powered portable device. To me they are also buggy. I've replaced all of them in my Thinkpads, Elitebooks and Lattitudes. I'm a fan of Atheros ar9380 and Intel 6200/6300N cards. Is there ...

Re: What can I do w/ my T61?

I still run the older generation T60 as my daily machine. Serves me fine for web browsing, emails and Office stuff. Anything more demanding is done on my desktops. A T61 is still useful. Agree with RBS' comments except that 2x4GB ram is still expensive. Fortunately 2x2GB ram is inexpensive and will ...

Re: My resolution about upgrading T61 CPU

The T9300 is plenty fast enough for this machine. Upgrade machine if you need faster. A T9300, while a nice CPU, will never be faster or more energy efficient than an equivalent speed mobile Sandy Bridge CPU. The biggest improvement you can make to the computing experience is a SSD. There's no down ...

Re: Has anyone succeeded at swapping cpus on X6x boards?

It's a lot of work, technical work with specialized equipment to replace a soldered in CPU. Going from a L7400 to L7500 will only gain you 100 MHZ which is marginal at best. Also the bus speed is 667 Mhz for the L7400 and 800 Mhz for the L7500 which is problematic.

In the cigar and whisky community people get together to BS and make friends all the time. Met some fantastic people and friends this way. In the computer/IT industry....not so much. Re: What Is Wrong With My ThinkPad T60

Two things you can check: 1) Check Windows power mode that it's set to sleep when the lid is closed. 2) All laptops that I know of have a sensor in the lid that detects when the lid is closed. When the lid is closed, it will at least turn the screen light off or put the laptop to sleep. This sensor ...

You need to find and install the proper driver for the WWAN card. Might be difficult as the manufacturer might not support it anymore. I don't bother with WWAN card these days as it's much simpler, cheaper and faster to simply set my smartphone to wifi hotspot and use that to connect my various tabl...

X60T and X61T complete screen assembly are 100% compatible with each other. It's a simple swap and I've got a few machines with a X60T lid (SXGA+ screen, colour logo) attached to a X61T body.

Except in synthetic benchmarks, IMO no you will not notice a difference in everyday usage. If you are moving massive amount of data all the time then yes but in normal everyday usage that consists of frequent reads/writes of small files, no.

Re: ThinkPad T60p Corrupted BIOS- Need Help!

That's assuming the BIOS is not to far corrupt. If it is too corrupt and will not let you flash BIOS, your best bet is to replace the MB. With a T500 generation or older, I still prefer to flash BIOS from a CD drive.

Don't have to trust anyone Puppy. Up to Win 7 I agree with you regarding MS. The change in Windows policy from Win 7 to Win 10 is what I meant by getting worse. The other viable alternative is Apple OS and Linux. For me it will be Linux but even then I don't fully trust it or someone. Not trusting s...

I conclude it was not worth the time or money for the minuscule benefit. Mind you the OCD in me puts in matched p...
