I got this because I’m an old keyboard addict

There are people here who know a lot more about this than I do, but I recall threads that discussed three different keyboard manufacturers for a single model, each with a different feel.

So I suspect that it is possible that you will detect differences between the keyboards.

it is not a hassle at all, takes same amount of time to mount usb as under normal windows environment. above claim by Omineca is fake news, it is just selecting the usb you want to be available in your virtual machine, you click and it automounts  I completely missed this comment back when it...

Just ordered Huawei MateBook 13

If you can either convince Huawei to add a trackpoint or find out how to put one in myself, I'd get one. Yes, I'll miss trackpoint, but Bluetooth mouse is acceptable. The more expensive i7 + 512 GB SSD configuration has touchscreen, but it isn't available over here and Amazon DE has German keyboard...

Trackpad Lower Button Repair

This isn't really an R500-specific post, but since I did it on my R500, I'm posting it here. The left click button on my trackpad was wearing out (losing it's clickiness and also getting less responsive) but the right button was fine. So I popped the palmrest this morning and removed the lower butto...

Re: POLL: Classic Shell... Whos using it?

I use it on my Windows 10 laptop at work. I've styled the start menu and taskbar to look like the Windows Embedded theme for XP, which was always my favourite.

Like others in this thread, I've worried that it was going to stop working with each update of Win10, but so far, so good.

Re: Finally the correct description of what Americans call football.

I'm a long-time fan of Canadian football, err, armpit-eggball. The Canadian game is faster (shorter breaks between plays), more wide open (bigger field, more space, and forward motion permitted prior to the plays, so the receivers get a running start), and only has three downs, so there's ...

Debian with LXDE makes for a responsive experience on my R500 (with SSD). It's been my daily use laptop since about 2013.

Re: ONE reason for the 2nd Amendment

Ask the Russians how that went in Afghanistan in the '80's. Ask American soldiers how that went in Vietnam in the '60's and '70's, or the British in Northern Ireland. Guerilla warfare is very effective tactic against an organized armed force. Gun control is nothing more than people control. It work...

Well, I'm glad there aren't upvotes and downvotes here, because I'd clearly get a lot of the latter with this comment. I grew up in Northern Canada and have experience with firearms. I completely favour gun control. If you make it easy for the deranged and the criminal to use weapons, they'll use th...

Toshiba sells its laptop business to Sharp

I still have the Satellite 2410 in my signature. It's one of the P4M models Screamer mentioned in his post. I had to replace the hinges a few years ago, but other than that it was a solid machine with a vibrant 4:3 screen. Can't complain about that combination.

Re: Looking for a devil's advocate: why SHOULDN'T I move to Linux completely ?

I played around with Linux from about 2004-ish until about 2010 before installing it as my only operating system. IMHO you should just do it. You're a technically-oriented person and the OS gives you complete control, which is what you're looking for. So why would I try to talk you out of it? I'd ra...

Re: lenovo near to being dumped

Assuming the HK market is similar to US markets, being de-listed from the exchange doesn't mean they'd be out of business nor even that their stock couldn't be traded. I thought at first that the issue was the company being de-listed as well (because of the very misleading headline), but that's not...

Re: 365XD RAM limit

Yes. The official limit for the 365X/XD is 32mb in the SODIMM slot (plus the 8mb of onboard RAM). I can't remember for sure, but I think I might have had to update the BIOS on that 365X to get the 64mb stick working, which compounds your problem if you haven't been able to perform the BIOS update. I...

Re: Microsoft is putting Windows on the back burner

I switched to Linux a long time ago at home. But I still use Windows for work. I have to, since IT loads their own disk images and restricts access to key functionality like printing and network drive access to systems using their software. I'm not sure what MS is doing with Windows. It's hard to be...

According to Thinkwiki, the R-Series was meant to be a cheaper model, which does make sense for the E/I type R series, but otherwise they usually come with more features (Firewire, QXGA LCD on R50p, S-Video(I think), Etc..). It would seem like it would be the heavy desktop replacement machine like ...
