Looking at everyone's response, I realized that my question was unclear! I was really asking about computers that you have NOW. Among your current computers, which one have you owned for the longest, and when did you get it?
Try again!

Re: What computer have you had for the longest? When did you get it?

A Toshiba Satellite 2410 laptop. It's a 15" model with a P4M processor and an Nvidia gpu, bought new in 2003 for somewhere in the neighbourhood of $2500. That seems crazy now. Later, I upgraded the RAM to 1GB and added an internal wifi card. The hard drive is still original. The screen resolution is...

I have an R500 and it's my everyday machine. Mine was a bit of a dog (from day one) with Windows Vista, but it remains very usable with a light Linux desktop (I'm using Debian LXDE).

Re: Prototype notebook with 3:2 LCD

When is the laptop industry finally coming to its senses, in that a (business) laptop is for WORK, and NOT for watching movies? OUT with this stupid 16:9 pronto! Revert back to 16:10 or 4:3 screens! Since they're making 3:2 panels, it would be nice to see a 14" or 15" ThinkPad with one. I liked 16:...

You seem to be on Win10, so should be fine. I have no idea which revisions of Linux support it. I'm mostly on Linux, windows 10 came preloaded on a 100gb hdd that I was using just for test. My setup is a 500gb Linux+1TB for storage. I will buy that device, but first I need to make sure that I can d...

Re: Compare installing one W10 with seven(7) Linux distros

I find that if I set up a light Linux system (usually Debian with LXDE), it is much faster than Windows on weak hardware. I'm not sure that a full install of Gnome or KDE would be much faster than Windows. But LXDE is so much like what I enjoyed with Windows 10 or 15 years ago that I have no desire ...

X120e Debian Stretch Video Driver

I just did a new install of Debian Stretch RC3, using the net install image, and I thought I'd save others here some grief with respect to video. I had a tough time finding the correct video driver. I was worried when I couldn't connect from my Forums app this morning. I had to update the bookmark because of the https change. I just got home from a trip today. I had to re-add this forum in the Forums app. I used https://forums.thinkpads.com to get it to work. I'm not sure if that was necessary...

T23,T42,T61,R61,T410 are my favorite Thinkpads ever. Just got a box full of R61s and I'm stoked. Any love for the numbered series 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8 series? On some of my T400's I run coreboot and it doesn't require the fan be installed?! That must be a very light system. The machine still runs, although the fan kicks in and buzzes occasionally. I guess Debian must not tax the system much either. So it's still usable. I just want to do the upgrade! Sen...

I just found out that my T430 will be my last work ThinkPad. We've been supplied with ThinkPads at work since I started, back in 2003. Lenovo's prices have been rising significantly in Canada (probably the result of the sliding dollar), so the IT department made the decision to change brands, and th...

There is/was some unofficial Roll-ups and Service Packs for both Win98se and Win2k that had all the official Microsoft stuff and then some (e.g., part of the extra Win2K stuff let you install a lot of software that normally would only run on WinXP). If I recall correctly, there are links to those u...

BlackBerry.

I use a Q10 for work and a 9900 for my private line. I'll stop using them when they lose connectivity (LTE and 3G respectively). I like a good keyboard, on my phone and my laptop. Removable batteries and expandable storage are also nice.
