PSA: Contacting Jacky (LCDFans)

Hey folks, Just for people's information, it's possible to contact Jacky on WeChat very easily, if you have it. I just completed a transaction for a X210 within a day and he's very responsive. So if you have WeChat, his username is "lcdfans"; or if you like I can ask some questions for you, but I do...

Re: X210 boards still available?

Spoke with Jacky on WeChat. They are NOT making a 4th batch at this time, and he only has a few (two?) full machines remaining. They are also not selling boards only. The machines have 2880x1920 IPS displays; the i5-8250u model costs $980 and the i7-8650u costs $1280. I may grab one of the i7 machin...

Which BIOS / flash chip is used on the X210?

Hi,
Sorry for sort-of double-posting but I figured this wasn't a coreboot question so it shouldn't have been in that thread (can't delete my post there)

Does anyone know which specific flash chip is used for the BIOS / EC on the X210 board or could look at theirs and let me know?

Cheers,

X210 boards still available?

Hi,
I've been hearing so much great stuff about the X210 I'm considering grabbing one.

However, I saw the post by LCDFans on Facebook that they would "not mod this anymore", so I'm wondering if they're referring to actual boards or the full machine.

Any ideas?

Re: X62 questions...

Wow they LITERALLY stitched an X61 and X201 body together, wow. The X63 is basically an X62 with an extra M.2 slot. It supports PCI but not the SATA lanes. They've also merged the sound card with the main board. https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fforum.51nb.c...

Those look more like pressure spots, but someone with more experience in the display area should confirm that.

Re: Any way to mitigate ripple pattern when swapping LCD backlight strip to LED ?

Yeah, you can / should insert a diffuser strip above the LEDs. You mean you're seeing this , right? If you're using Monty's daylight kit they're included, otherwise you can use a similar material. Read here , specifically under Shims and the differences between the Original and Daylight kits. Good l...

X62 / Win 10 Battery Thereshold set?

Hi, This question was asked in Dec 2017 I believe, but I don't know if it was ever solved. I moved to Windows 10 a few months ago, and I have no idea if there's a way to get battery charge theresholds here. If I remember correctly, one could install the Power Manager in Windows 7, but that no longer...

Re: USB3 via WWAN slot of X61s

At one point made a GPU adapter that would fit an MXM GPU in the HDD slot. It would have needed a custom heatsink and small fans, and it basically implemented an MXM -> mPCIe adapter. It used eGPU setup , which worked, and I got it to the point where it detected properly in Windows as a 2nd GPU. Aft...

Re: USB3 via WWAN slot of X61s

Would probably work, yes. Before I moved to an X62, I used this to add a 2nd HDD to my X61. I had routed the main HDD connector to an mSATA drive that I housed in the PCMCIA slot, and used this USB3 card along with a USB->SATA adapter to add a full 2.5" HDD into the normal drive bay. It worked but i...

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62

Mine happens specifically when I close the screen but don't turn it off. That seems to me like it's a temperature problem or something, since the screen would be heated up by the laptop body (maybe). In my case the edge turns completely white, regardless of what's being displayed and I can repeatedl...

Re: Project result report: Re-celling 8-cell X6x (non-tablet) battery

Hi, Well, I don't treat it very well to begin with so it's lost a lot more capacity than if I had been "nice" to it. This laptop spends most of its time plugged in, but I never bothered to change the full thereshold so it's always at 100% (yes, go ahead and judge me. An oversight, if you will). Also...

Were you able to get the software to build correctly the 2nd time around, by the way?

It was an Ebay acquisition many years ago, but unless someone took the trouble to remove everything, replace the screen and put the digitizer and front plate back on...no idea.

Send me a PM if you're interested in a lid swap / trade and want to inspect this one..

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62

Interesting. My SXGA+ has the damaged polarizer pattern sometimes (when it gets hot / close the lid with the screen on), but I get a white ring around the edge with that exact shape. Is that the same or something else? I pulled this from a tablet with everything on it (clips, digitizer, front plate)...

Got your PM, happy to send / post help with external Bios flashing. The SuperIO on an X62 is a Nuvoton WPCE775x / NPCE781x (id 0x00, rev 0x04) at 0c4e.

If you're really into hacking, the Plop bootloader can be installed as a PCI option ROM. That should let you load a Linux kernel from wherever, probably including an SD card.

User "galloper" on the German forum reported that he used FRU 91P8396 from the T40/41, which apparently fit very well. Same. I simply transplanted my entire lid (SXGA+ / Monty daylight LED / webcam), worked without a hitch.

When the battery reports 0% the laptop still works for several hours. Huh, interesting. I actually experienced the exact same thing. From having changed the capacity in the EEPROM, I know that the controller can decrease the "known" capacity by 10-20% per charge cycle, but that still doesn't explai...

Project result report: Re-celling 8-cell X6x (non-tablet) battery

Hi all- Figured this was worth at least putting in its own post. Here's a short & quick summary of what I did and the results. Feel free to ask for details on...

Sadly, no. He's probably talking about that 3D printed piece that covers where the dock connector is SUPPOSED to be.

The one I printed off doesn't fit very well either, I believe you line up the oval hole and sort of squish it in... that more or less did the trick for me.
