Re: Project result report: Re-celling 8-cell X6x (non-tablet) battery

Hi, Well, I don't treat it very well to begin with so it's lost a lot more capacity than if I had been "nice" to it. This laptop spends most of its time plugged in, but I never bothered to change the full thereshold so it's always at 100% (yes, go ahead and judge me. An oversight, if you will). Also...

I wonder if we can preserve the touch feature on that screen! That would be amazing.
Were you able to get the software to build correctly the 2nd time around, by the way?

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62

It was an Ebay acquisition many years ago, but unless someone took the trouble to remove everything, replace the screen and put the digitizer and front plate back on...no idea.

Send me a PM if you're interested in a lid swap / trade and want to inspect this one..

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62

Interesting. My SXGA+ has the damaged polarizer pattern sometimes (when it gets hot / close the lid with the screen on), but I get a white ring around the edge with that exact shape. Is that the same or something else? I pulled this from a tablet with everything on it (clips, digitizer, front plate)...

Re: X62: No Boot/BIOS/Splash Screen

Got your PM, happy to send / post help with external Bios flashing. Meanwhile, if you installed the new screen and backlight at the same time, I would first try disconnecting it completely (I.e remove lid and use an external screen) and see if you get further. If you have a short somewhere on the sc...

Spoof Wifi / CPU parameters to use Intel WiDi?

Hi,
Long shot here but does anyone know if it's possible to spoof what Wifi & CPU are present in a particular machine to make Intel WiDi / Miracast work?
The install utility doesn't even start on an X62 because it complains about the CPU too...

Hi, Fan control issues here. Has anyone figured out what the numbers mean in the config file that go along with the Windows fan utility that was posted? I can't quite figure out how it transitions from one state to another, and additionally it seems to go into states that aren't in the file sometime...

The SuperIO on an X62 is a Nuvoton WPCE775x / NPCE781x (id 0x00, rev 0x04) at 0c4e.

Does that help?

If you're really into hacking, the Plop bootloader can be installed as a PCI option ROM. That should let you load a Linux kernel from wherever, probably including an SD card.

I think I either misinterpreted his instructions or just straight up destroyed the T40/41 speaker bar while cutting the mount apart. Also the mount itself is a resonating body, so once the speakers are removed they no longer sound good at all. I want to try out these guys ...whenever they get back i...

User "galloper" on the German forum reported that he used FRU 91P8396 from the T40/41, which apparently fit very well. Both cable lengths and the plug are correct and lend themselves to easy installation without soldering or other modifications, and supposedly it sounds great. I just ordered a set o...

Can confirm that webcam mod for x61(s) works for x62 as well!
(fitted in place of bt board on lid and connected to BT 3.3v usb port on lcd cable ribbon)
Same. I simply transplanted my entire lid (SXGA+ / Monty daylight LED / webcam), worked without a hitch.

Re: Project result report: Re-celling 8-cell X6x (non-tablet) battery

When the battery reports 0% the laptop still works for several hours. Huh, interesting. I actually experienced the exact same thing. From having changed the capacity in the EEPROM, I know that the controller can decrease the "known" capacity by 10-20% per charge cycle, but that still doesn't explai...

Project result report: Re-celling 8-cell X6x (non-tablet) battery

Hi all- Figured this was worth at least putting in its own post. I recently decided that I would try to re-cell my 4 & 8 cell X61 batteries; both of which were degraded to the point of complete uselessness. Here's a short & quick summary of what I did and the results. Feel free to ask for details on...

Re: How many of you have already got the X62? And any new interest?

Sadly, no. He's probably talking about that 3D printed piece that covers where the dock connector is SUPPOSED to be.

The one I printed off doesn't fit very well either, I believe you line up the oval hole and sort of squish it in... that more or less did the trick for me.

Some more info from the net (or from the X61 forum;) but this is for X61 battry chip . Anyway protocol requires sending some "magic" bytes to get full access to battery flash and reprogram it. And for sure this "magic" bytes are different for different batteries even on the one Thinkpad series. I r...

With the spare internal USB port, you can probably fit one of those WWAN-Adapter things next to the sound board and have both.
Seems to lack a 2nd true mPCIe lane though, which is sad.
