Re: X210 - PCI root bridge for M.2 slot?

Quick update: An NVME drive works just fine....so now I'm totally lost. Clearly then the 4x PCIe lanes work, so why won't any other devices show up?

Fingers crossed for any group wisdom...

X210 - PCI root bridge for M.2 slot?

Hi, I'm trying to figure out why none of my PCIe cards (none of which are actually NVME drives) will show up in the M.2 slot. I've enabled all 9 root ports in the BIOS and set them to x1, since the card I'm testing with is an x1 card (Sunix UDP2018). I can get it to show up just fine in the WiFi slo...

X201 backlit keyboards?

Hi,
In my quest for the "ultimate machine" I'd love a backlit keyboard.

Does / did that exist for the X201?

Re: Where to get high current 5V and 12V on X210?

I took "12V" straight from the battery, since that sits at 11.1V...which turns out is close enough for the USB-C card, which regulates down to 5V anyway. For 5V, I'm guessing the usual 500mA current limit applies if it's drawn from USB, unless the internal / PCIe ports don't regulate that properly? R

Mmhm sure :)

The working one is this guy.

And I'm thinking of giving up the SATA Bay for this, so I'd carve out a port in the drive cover. I've got at least one extra.

Re: Anyone tried non-storage devices in X210 M.2 slot?

M.2 keys confuse me. The one on the X210 looks to be a M-key, which should be 4x PCIe plus SATA, which checks out with the storage solutions people have talked about. Regarding power, perhaps. It's got an external power plug that I've temporarily connected to a USB port (yes I know the card says it ...

Re: Anyone tried non-storage devices in X210 M.2 slot?

To add USB-C obviously :) And no, it doesn't work on stock either, but then the BIOS has so many options I wouldn't know if it was disabled... They don't really make standalone Thunderbolt controllers yet so this might be the best we can do, unless someone wants to port Coreboot to the new X2100 ;) R

Anyone tried non-storage devices in X210 M.2 slot?

Hi there- I'm trying to get this card working in the X210. However, I can't tell if this just does not work, or if my card is DOA. The symptom is no reaction at all, on either Windows or Ubuntu. No dmesg change, no new hardware installer popups. Last I checked this card uses PCI lanes, which an M.2 ...

Re: Coreboot on the X210

I just logged in to Win10 with my fingerprint and downloaded some photos from an SD card, so I'm pretty sure it works :p Note that when I first received the machine the SD card didn't work either. Turns out the sub-card they chose seems to have been busted, so I swapped in the one from my old X201. ...

Re: Coreboot on the X210

I fixed the SD card and fingerprint reader, if anyone needs that.

Add this to src/mainboard/51nb/x21/devicetree.cb:

register "usb2_ports[3]" = "USB2_PORT_FLEX(OC1)" # FPR?
register "usb2_ports[4]" = "USB2_PORT_FLEX(OC1)" # SD?

Where to get high current 5V and 12V on X210?

Hi all- I just picked up this guy for experimentation, but I still need to power it. It comes with an adapter that looks like it pins out the standard Molex 4-pin, so it appears to consume both 5V and 12V. I'll try to measure the SATA connector one of these days to see if it has 12V, but I doubt it ...

Is the ACPI implementation in these builds "complete"? I've read some stuff that Windows requires a strict ACPI implementation, so I...

Retrofit USB-C charging into older Thinkpads?

Crazy thought- I want to retrofit one of my "older" Thinkpads (think X61/62, X201/210) with USB-C charging. The USB-C spec allows 20V at 3A or 5A, so if one adds a USB-C Power Sink such as this or this , that should be enough to replace (or add to) the standard barrel connector. Is this a silly idea...

Looks to be incompatible.

It's a lovely (but glossy) display and there's not much bezel left where a webcam might go in mine (a build from Jacky).

Re: 3d printing a Frankenpad, (Warning: small image)

We 3D print a bunch of stuff at work with a Form2 printer. It's one of the better liquid printers that do plastic-type materials so we've got a decent bit of experience with it. I'm currently looking at a 1/2" thick plate of their "tough" engineering resin that's about 4"-4", and it's visibly warped...

Oh, interesting.

Is the advantage here solely that the VGA blobs don't need to be included anymore and thus we save ROM space?

Also, unrelated question: Has anyone tried building u-boot as a payload for this yet?

X201 palm rest 60Y5421 and 60Y5417 interchangeable?

Hi,
My X210 came with a palm rest that does not have a touch pad, but DOES have an FPR.

I'd like to sub it out for one that has both, but I can't figure out if I need 60Y5417 (for X201) or 60Y5421 (for X201s).

Would both work / are they interchangeable?

One remark, I haven't been able to boot W10 with TianoCore payload. I only got W10 working with SeaBIOS. So, if you can, try SeaBIOS first. That's the plan, AFAIK SeaBIOS is also the only way to select and execute multiple payloads. Although that does seem a very roundabout way to boot Linux. I'm g...

Re: Is an NVMe SSD (theoretically) possible on an X61?

I blew up one of them I think, that was a while ago. I never did get the switch to work properly; routing several differential pairs for SATA through two through-hole DPDT switches messed with the signal integrity too much I guess. Point being, it worked fine as long as I DIDN'T need to switch them....
