Where to get high current 5V and 12V on X210?

Hi all- I just picked up this guy for experimentation, but I still need to power it. It comes with an adapter that looks like it pins out the standard Molex 4-pin, so it appears to consume both 5V and 12V. I'll try to measure the SATA connector one of these days to see if it has 12V, but I doubt it ...

Hah yeah that's why the first thing I did was install this guy . Now I can brick all I want, I just swap the chip after boot. Can you PM me with the details? Happy to collaborate but keep in mind I'm not a software engineer, so the best thing I can do is change the code specifically where people tel...

Re: Coreboot on the X210

Tried re-building with Tianocore. Finding an interesting problem that I didn't have before: I get no splash screen nor boot menu, but if I hit "Enter" Ubuntu boots correctly (it must be the first menu entry) and the first thing I see is "Ubuntu 19.10" with the loading dots. Building with vga blobs (...

Re: Coreboot on the X210

Is the ACPI implementation in these builds "complete"? I have not had any success booting any Windows installs or installers (have tried Windows 7 and 10, SeaBIOS & Tianocore, USB2 and USB3 drives in various combinations). I've read some stuff that Windows requires a strict ACPI implementation, so I...

Retrofit USB-C charging into older Thinkpads?

Crazy thought- I want to retrofit one of my "older" Thinkpads (think X61/62, X201/210) with USB-C charging. The USB-C spec allows 20V at 3A or 5A, so if one adds a USB-C Power Sink such as this or this , that should be enough to replace (or add to) the standard barrel connector. Is this a silly idea...

Looks to be incompatible.

It's a lovely (but glossy) display and there's not much bezel left where a webcam might go in mine (a build from Jacky).

Re: Coreboot on the X210

Hi,
Thanks for the comments, I'll try out the image thing.

Any further thoughts on either the SATA question or the SD issue?

I do a decent amount of photography so having a non-functional SD card is almost a dealbreaker :(

Re: Coreboot on the X210

Hi, After playing with this for a week or so, a few questions arose: - Still unable to boot an existing Windows install with Tianocore. Some Googling suggests setting the SATA mode to IDE may help (the error is "INACCESSIBLE BOOT VOLUME" or "BOOT VOLUME NOT FOUND" or similar). Does this port have a ...

Hey all- Apologies in advance, I feel like I need to let off a bit of steam / maybe get some questions answered  . Jacky, if you're reading this, please take it as constructive criticism ... Re: 3d printing a Frankenpad, (Warning: small image)

We 3D print a bunch of stuff at work with a Form2 printer. It's one of the better liquid printers that do plastic-type materials so we've got a decent bit of experience with it. I'm currently looking at a 1/2" thick plate of their "tough" engineering resin that's about 4"-4", and it's visibly warped...

Re: Coreboot on the X210

Oh, interesting.

Is the advantage here solely that the VGA blobs don't need to be included anymore and thus we save ROM space?

Also, unrelated question: Has anyone tried building u-boot as a payload for this yet?

X201 palm rest 60Y5421 and 60Y5417 interchangeable?

Hi,
My X210 came with a palm rest that does not have a touch pad, but DOES have an FPR.

I'd like to sub it out for one that has both, but I can't figure out if I need 60Y5417 (for X201) or 60Y5421 (for X201s).

Would both work / are they interchangeable?

Re: X210 EC datasheet/better brightness control?

One remark, I haven't been able to boot W10 with TianoCore payload. I only got W10 working with SeaBIOS. So, if you can, try SeaBIOS first. That's the plan, AFAIK SeaBIOS is also the only way to select and execute multiple payloads. Although that does seem a very roundabout way to boot Linux. I'm g...

Right, of course. My bad.

I got thrown off by Matthew's last post about the hotkeys in the EC and that we're not actually in the coreboot thread.

I plan to run Ubuntu / Win 10 dual boot on coreboot, so I'm curious what the effects would be

Re: Is an NVMe SSD (theoretically) possible on an X61?

I blew up one of them I think, that was a while ago. I never did get the switch to work properly; routing several differential pairs for SATA through two through-hole DPDT switches messed with the signal integrity too much I guess. Point being, it worked fine as long as I DIDN'T need to switch them....

Re: X210 WiFi / WWAN antenna cables

Jacky said all 4 antennas are identical...(?). While I sort of doubt that, I followed RBS & his advice, picked one from each side and everything seems to work. I'll check the actual signal strength later, but so far so good. Also my card only has two ports, misremembered. It's an Azurewave AW-CE123H...

Re: X210 WiFi / WWAN antenna cables

It's a WiFi / BT combo card.

I think I'll have to open up the bezel anyway; 51nb did a pretty bad job of trimming it to fit the new screen. Some sandpaper will help that and I might as well check for the antennas at the same time.

Thanks for the advice so far though,

Re: X210 WiFi / WWAN antenna cables

No, don't need WWAN. But there are 4 cables, two go to the right hinge and two go to the left. They're utterly indistinguishable from each other. My WiFi card has three two ports (misremembered, it's been a while since I popped the hood). That's a lot of combinations. I don't really want to open up ...

[SOLVED] X210 WiFi / WWAN antenna cables

Hi all-
Just received my full X210 - yay!

One thing confuses me so far though: ALL 4 WiFi / WWAN cables coming out of the screen assembly end in black. Since they don't have the usual grey / white shrouds on mine, is there any way to tell which cable goes to which antennas?

Cheers,

Re: Is an NVMe SSD (theoretically) possible on an X61?

I made an ugly dual HDD hack for my old X61 a few years ago: https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=114432#p735315 Tapped into the SATA interposer card to add a bootable mSATA card, then used a mPCIE->USB3->SATA adapter that was wired back into the HDD bay for a 2nd drive. Heat problem wer...

Why is there a cost difference for full machines between what you and Jacky are offering? His ones were $200 more expensive for the same / similar configuration, I believe.

Spoke with Jacky on WeChat. They are NOT making a 4th batch at this time, and he only has a few (two?) full machines remaining. They are also not selling boards only. The machines have 2880x1920 IPS displays; the i5-8250u model costs $980 and the i7-8650u costs $1280. I may grab one of the i7 machin...
