Re: Project result report: Re-celling 8-cell X6x (non-tablet) battery

When the battery reports 0% the laptop still works for several hours. Huh, interesting. I actually experienced the exact same thing. From having changed the capacity in the EEPROM, I know that the controller can decrease the "known" capacity by 10-20% per charge cycle, but that still doesn't explai...

Project result report: Re-celling 8-cell X6x (non-tablet) battery

Hi all- Figured this was worth at least putting in its own post. I recently decided that I would try to re-cell my 4 & 8 cell X61 batteries; both of which were degraded to the point of complete uselessness. Here's a short & quick summary of what I did and the results. Feel free to ask for details on...

Re: how to revive a destroyed li-ion battery due to overdischarg

I did succeed, but it's probably worth starting a new thread so I can write up a proper report. Stay tuned!

EDIT: Thanks for the tip, I didn't check that before I recelled. I got lucky and had UR18650FMs, which charge to 4.2V *phew*.

Re: How many of you have already got the X62? And any new interest?

Sadly, no. He's probably talking about that 3D printed piece that covers where the dock connector is SUPPOSED to be.

The one I printed off doesn't fit very well either, I believe you line up the oval hole and sort of squish it in... that more or less did the trick for me.

Oh, I see I somehow forgot to mention UXGA.
Did you grab that one from Ebay we'd found? There's currently one up still.

I probably won't connect the touch sensor.
I'd want it, I think. If / when you get that screen working I'll probably want to play around with the touch part of it.

I actually just ripped my 4-cell apart to re-cell it, but I could send you the case (without cells). That would also make mailing much easier since we don't have to worry about lithium shipping...

Re: CAD model of 4-cell battery?

Sort of, I want to modify it for some fixture experiments but yes, then I want to 3D print it. It does need to work with all the latches and slots so ideally it should be fairly detailed. I know my way around CAD but nowhere near well enough for it to be a good use of my time to make my own unfortun...

CAD model of 4-cell battery?

Good day!
I'm looking for a CAD model for the 4-cell X61 (non-T) battery, does anyone know of one?
Thanks,

FYI, user "mifritscher" over in the German forum has dumped and disassembled the EC. You can read about it on his wiki page here.
Maybe this will help us get our hands on fan control and various other stuff, I'm curious to see what he comes up with...

Re: how to revive a destroyed li-ion battery due to overdischarg

Some more info from the net (or from the X61 forum;) but this is for X61 battry chip . Anyway protocol requires sending some "magic" bytes to get full access to battery flash and reprogram it. And for sure this "magic" bytes are different for different batteries even on the one Thinkpad series. I r...

Suggested replacement cells for Thinkpad batteries?

Helloes- I learned a method reset failure flags / change capacitiy / adjust other parameters on Thinkpad batteries (look up "Karosium 8030" on Google, there's a guy with a blog who figured it out for less than $10 in parts). The goal is to replace the cells in an ailing 4-cell pack with something ni...

As I said 8)

In fact, it's the same plug that the fingerprint reader in the X61t lid uses, it was just discussed over on the German forum where someone used it to hide a small internal hub / mouse transmitter

With the spare internal USB port, you can probably fit one of those WWAN-Adapter things next to the sound board and have both.
Seems to lack a 2nd true mPCIe lane though, which is sad.

Battery resets / rebuilds: BE2Works group buy?

Hi folks! I know I'm not the only one who's got old Thinkpad batteries sitting around and either wants to reset the cycle count or replace the cells and do a factory reset. Re: Giving some love to my X61

I almost want to say "challenge accepted". I've been dreaming of a "tablet" version of a regular X61 without the tablet buttons or fingerprint reader because for some reason I really hate that extra inch of depth especially when combined with the larger battery. That's basically the only reason I'm ...

Re: 801.11ac Wireless Card?

My usual recommendation is the Azurewave AW-CE123H. Cheap, half size, BT4 + 802.11ac. And also compatible with Hackintoshes, if you care.
It has served me very well and I like it, but since I don't have any AC network to test with I can't really comment on its performance in that department.

Anyone know how to turn OFF the internal LCD from boot when an external screen is attached?
I don't see any BIOS options to that effect, but maybe I'm missing something. I'm thinking of the old "LCD", "External" or "both" selection.

Disabled everything I can think of / see and removed all storage devices except the mSATA drive; no change. I wouldn't even know how to tell what the machine is doing, but it takes almost exactly 17 seconds before the X62 boot splash shows up.

Re: [solved] X62: Bios setting change -> No boot incl. splash?

One observation and one comment on how I might have broken the BIOS initially. - First, it now takes around 17 seconds for the boot splash to even appear. I don't recall this being the case before, is there a common explanation for this? The machine works again overall so that's great, but 15 or so ...

Re: [solved] X62: Bios setting change -> No boot incl. splash?

It may have had something to do with the SATA settings, also with BIOS Legacy modes. I'm not going to be at home for the next few days (and I'm not bringing the flashing rig with me to my gf's place  ), so I don't want to do any experiments until I'm back in case I brick it again.
