Has anyone with an X60-series laptop utilized any of the cooling pads on the market, and if so, with what success? Do some "fit" our small footprint better than others?

X60 video-card query
I have an X60 (1709-97U) and want to use the VGA port to output to a Sony HD TV.
Does the video card support S-Video or Composite Video out through its VGA port?
If not, is there a VGA-out cable that will get me any signal to the tv, even if compromised?
Thanks,
Jeff

Onscreen display gone
Had the MB on my x60 replaced. Now I have no OSD for the speaker volume or display brightness. The functions work, just no OSD feedback. Is there a way they could have been disabled while at the service center?

x60 0191 error
Maybe it's coincidence, but after installing my machine yesterday with the latest and greatest R&R and CSS updates, the machine failed to boot with 0191 error. In checking on the forum, I've read it could be a bad CMOS bsttery or motherboard. Inasmuch as I've never used passwords (BIOS, HDD or Windo...

CSS and RR questions
My X60 has lost some function with respect to CSS and PowerManagement. At bootup I now get CSSAUTH.EXE error, and when I invoke the Power Manager I now get an error message (illegal operation). I've decided it might be a good time to update my machine, so I downloaded the updates for BIOS, CSS and R...

For those who might experience the same (or similar) difficulty noted above in upgrading their HDD via Acronis cloning, this is what I learned. If you let Acronis default in its cloning operation (after explicitly stating to it what your source and target drives are), you must select "manual" mode (...

Help!! Acronis issue with service partition
I bought the 7K200 drive to replace the 100GB drive on my x60. I used Acronis 10 to clone the original drive to the larger drive (mounted in the ultrabay). When the operation concluded nearly two hours later, I had two 100GB partitions (PRELOAD and SERVICE). Inasmuch as the SERVICE partition on the ...

As a last resort, I suppose I could that. Problem is, I'd rather not have to reload all my apps, which is what I'd then have to do.... BTW, disk activity is still present, and it's been over two hours with no movement of the progress indicator. So, if no progress, what's the silly thing doing? I'm a...

Need Restore help....BIG time!
This morning I opted to restore my x60 via ThinkVantage. I was careful to select the latest backup, and cautiously read the warning about not powering off any time after the selection. The system then chose to reboot (which I'm guessing is normal); Thinkvantage came up and the machine's sitting at "...

I was suspicious, so I wrote the seller and asked how he came upon multiple units, each with the 7k200, when it appears not to be orderable or configurable through IBM or Lenovo's site. His response: Those IBM x60tablets are imported from Japan. I have a customer in my local store bringing those lap...

Ray, Thanks for the input and the calculations. One might infer, in the case of 1 million cycles) that the 13.8 hours is for each sector, correct? If so, the 13.8 hours doesn't seem to disqualify the flash because there are probably thousands or millions of sectots. I don't know how many sectors my ...

It appears that most commercial sticks are warranted for at least a million cycles, but what might that mean ...

booting from USB flash drive
With 8GB flash drives now under $50, I'm wondering if anyone has tried to load XP onto a flash drive and booting from it?
If so, it seems it would load considerably faster than from any HDD.
True?
If anyone's done this, I'd sure like to know the steps that were taken to make it happen.....

Re: Memory shipped in X60
If you check the tabook , you will see that the 1709-97U has one socket available; therefore it has a single 1 GB module installed. Some other models, such as 1706-C9U, have two 512 MB modules. If your interpretation is correct, then I don't understand the reference in tabook: "512MB or 1GB std / 4...

Re: Memory shipped in X60
As stated above you can "configure" your memory options, since you are buying it used, you can go here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/homeLenovo.do?country=us and you can get information on the original configuration as shipped from Lenovo. I went to the link, but I couldn't find anyth...

Memory shipped in X60
I'm purchasing a used 1709-97U with 1GB RAM.
Does Lenovo ship these with 2 sticks of 512MB or 1 stick of 1GB, or is either just as likely as the other?
It matters only because I'm preparing to upgrade before the machine arrives.

Re: Memory Compatibility ( DDR2 )
Generally if I'm going to upgrade to 2gb in a machine, I try to avoid buying a machine that comes with a 512mb stick because that then becomes a "throwaway" piece or at best something to ebay. Sometimes that's difficult to avoid, but the logic is certainly valid. It means that if the OP insists on ...

I've seen a couple of these models for sale (1707-5DU), but they're not included in Tabook. Any reason why?? Oversight? Education-only model?? It appears they're similarly configured o the 1706-5DU, and IBM's site certainly acknowledges the 1707, just not Tabook... http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products...

Fingerprint-reader-on-used-X60 question
I've searched but can't find the answers to my questions about the pending purchase of a used X60. When one buys a used X60 what needs to be done to the machine to accept a "new fingerprint" and to delete an old one (the seller's)? Is each fingerprint simply associated with a unique XP user? What if...

USB or PCMCIA Wireless on an X20
I'm not at all clear on whether the currently offered USB2.0 wireless adapters will work on a X20. I do know the Kingston USB Flash Drive I'm using says "This drive will work faster if connected to a USB2 port" (or words to that effect). It still works, albeit slower than if I had a USB2 port. So, I...

dual monitor problem on X20
I'm using the VGA port to drive a secondary monitor. If I boot up XP without the VGA port cabled, the Thinkpad comes up in full screen, 1024x768. If I boot up with the VGA port cabled, the secondary monitor comes up full screen, but the Thinkpad's monitor falls back to 800X600, and I've lost valuabl...
