Hello - I would buy this, if you decide to sell it. I can do postal money order. I hate paypal too. USPS money orders are the best because you can CASH THEM at the PO just before you hand them your computer. Nothing feels better than cash in your hands, FWIW. Actually, I have had a need to get a San...

Re: T410/510 & W510 Specs starting to appear

Interesting RE: 16:9 aspect ratio displays. I wonder if there will ever be a 2560x1440 (QHD? 1280x2=2560, 720X2=1440, similar to the Apple iMac 27 inch) in the workstation replacement model? I saw some preliminary benchmarks on the i7-820QM. It looks like a beast of a microprocessor. Hopefully we'll...

Re: Black Friday shopping

4GB (2x2GB DDR3) from Lenovo isn't much more money, so I would buy the memory directly from them. If you wanted to go to 6GB or 8GB (2x4GB DDR3) I would probably get that 3rd party if that were my money. I would only get the 2GB system today if I planned to immediately upgrade to 6 or 8GB. Otherwise...

Agreed Oct-Nov has to me seemed to be the best time of the year to get a deal on a Thinkpad. I tend to buy in Feb-Apr time of the year (tax return season) and I always seem to pay slightly more because I wait. At least that's what I have observed since watching Thinkpad prices since about Jan 2005. ...

Re: Did I just make a mistake regarding future Win 7 upgrade ???

Hello - I don't know if I'd blame the O/S vendors as much regarding esoteric or exotic 3rd party hardware. It's not like these vendors can't get developer previews of these O/S up to a year or more prior to the O/S's general release. It just seems the 3rd party vendors either lack the resources to p...

Re: Which distro for T4x series?

Anyway, the XFCE desktop sounds interesting. So, if I want to use QT apps or KDE programs, I just install the KDE libs? The negative is installing more stuff so using more space? It also uses slightly more memory since you are loading more shared libraries (GTK and QT). Although it's not really som...

Re: QUES: possible to use one common disk image on T41/2/3p?

Using Sysprep to inject the drivers is trivial once you understand the mechanics of sysprep, where you will need to put the driver files, how to create a sysprep.inf file, etc. That part is easy. The trick with the T43 is that it uses a different HAL and kernel than the previous versions. And swappi...

Re: Comparing ThinkPad Battery Discharge Rates

Hello - That's disappointing as the power consumption on this X61s (with 12 inch ultralight screen option and Intel L7700 1.8GHz CPU) consumes more power (8-10Whr on average) than your cited T41 values. The original Pentium M notebooks were quite the battery sippers! Sorry I got the X31 confused. I ...

Re: Comparing ThinkPad Battery Discharge Rates

It's not exactly fair to compare a R40 and X31 with a T42 p and a Z60 m[/m]. Neglecting the differences between the displays (bigger displays generally consume more power, but not always), the two latter units probably had discrete video adapters whereas the X31 (and perhaps) the R40 did not. Keyboard appears to be a used pull. The keys are in good shape. The typing and individual key feel is still very good and accurate. Re: Intel chipset support for Windows XP - ThinkPad T30????

You need (or your strong should ) install the Intel Mobile Chipset drivers. The ones from the Intel website would probably be OK. My preference is to install the latest ones from support.dell.com . Dell recommends that you still install the Intel Mobile Chipset drivers. The Dell O/S CD is very much ...

Are they ever going to get around the $1200-1300 margin (that is of course w/o sacrificing its build quality). The outlet or some crazy coupon stacking is probably the best bet. You will probably also have to forgo the 1920x1200 WUXGA display to get to that level, if at all. I imagine we'll see som...

I wanted to chime in regarding the CPU speed. I have many users running the ultra low voltage chips (1.2, 1.33, 1.4 GHz) without complaint. One of the users is a photoshop/ Web development girl. The 1.2G performs fine for her in Photoshop (bumped her up to 3GiB of RAM, though). We run the 5400rpm 12...

I tend to use RHEL, Fedora, or Centos the most over the years. I initially started with Redhat 4.1 after several unsuccessful attempts to load Slackware. Re: Search Hits---T400 = 2255/T500 = 1103. Why?

Many of the potential T500 purchasers are probably swayed by the attractive pricing of the W500 models (or the W500's OpenGL graphics or available WUXGA 1920x1200 display!). Others probably saw the WSXGA+ screen with LED backlighting on the T400 and perhaps opted for that direction instead. I agree ...

Correct me if I´m wrong, but with Vista OS there isn´t the custom restore option in R&R anymore. That is incorrect. With both Windows Vista Business x64 and x86 R&R Media from Lenovo, the option for a custom restore is present. I just tested it on x64, and it does, in fact, work. 1. Boot to ThinkVa...

Remember you can do a custom restore of the O/S from the RNR partition on the hard disk. If you leave off the performance hungry apps (Primary Maintenance Manager, since it schedules the defragger. And Norton's Security Suite) you should be OK. But you can deselect as many pre-install applications a...

Closest in weight size (roughly) would be the recently discontinued X61s or the current X200s.
