Bizarre T61 Problems! (Display, now won't post?)

Okay, so I had pre-ordered a 14.1" T61 back before they came out, two summers ago, and I haven't had a _single_ problem until about a month ago, when I turned my laptop on, went to get breakfast, and came back to find the display completely distorted. Troubleshooted myself, realized it wasn't a grap...

Thank you for your answer. :)

Does anybody else have the same problem with their T61? The bottom, under the touchpad, gets extremely hot, even when its not under much load. The top, however, gets slightly warm, but nothing more. Is this just how it is? Or could their be a problem?

What's below the touchpad?

I have kind of a weird question. I've been experiencing a good deal of heat coming from the underside of the laptop, directly below the touchpad. Now, I know the RAM is under there; however, is there something underneath the RAM that might be causing the heat? The rest of the laptop (GPU et al) is r...

Right. The newest RMClock beta supports the Santa Rosa platform and all the joys that it brings. So underclocking the 2.2Ghz chip to 800Mhz is a reality. Plus, it also supports the Ultra-Low Frequency, which lets you drop it down even lower.

Wow, that makes a lot of sense. I assumed it disabled it or something.

However, that takes away another feature I love... the ability to "scroll" as if I was using an actual mouse wheel. I don't suppose there's a way to have the best of both worlds?

Make trackpoint "scroll" button click?

Hey guys, I'm a big Linux user, but I occasionally have to do some things in Windows, and one of the tiny things that irritates the heck out of me is the inability to "click" with the scroll button on the trackpoint. I've explored the (rather sparse) drivers, but I'm pretty certain there's nothing t...

Basically, what it does is, in the case where you're using a virtual machine (i.e., running Windows from a Linux machine, etc.), you can use one of the cores for each operating system. Very cool and very effective! I use it running Ubuntu 7.10/XP, and I don't notice ANY slowdown between the two!

Yes, it is the 14.1" widescreen model; I highly doubt you could smash a 15.4" widescreen model in there... although I saw posts saying that some people managed to do it with the T60 version.

My bad; I copied and pasted but only changed the text... pictures are correct now. :)

You can see how the T61 w/ the extended battery fits as well; rather nicely, I might add. Unfortunately, my pics are not that extensive, but if you'd like to see more of it, you need only say the word... ;)

Lenovo Expander Case and the T61 (pics!)

Just wanted to post some pictures of this brand new bag... I fell in love with it as soon as I unwrapped it and plopped my TP in it, and I felt like I just had to share it! The case is small and compact (the expander option is great, if you need more space), while still being stylish and compact. Th...

I'm just about to push the button to order a 14.1 SXGA+ T61. Dumb question: can someone lay out the basic pros and cons of the integrated vs discrete graphics? 1. I realize heat and battery life are an issue, but any idea about how much? ... My uses: mostly text (word processing, spreadsheets). Nev...

I have an ALPS one on my T61, and I like it. The only issue I really have is one that the OP addressed, which was the big keys tend to be louder. The space bar is noticeably louder than the rest of the keys, although as usual, none of the keys are loud enough to be bothersome. Using my girlfriend's ...

I ran into this same problem, and here is the general explanation that I have received:

With the dual cores, Intel has greatly restricted the ability to underclock the processors; only computer manufacturers have the ability to do so now.

Not sure of any specifics, but on the few distributions that I've tested, the big problems have all been similar: wireless (4965 mostly, Atheros sounds fine), video card (fixable via drivers), and the UltraNav shebang (also fixable via drivers).

I find Atheros does consume more power than Intel's... when it can see a network an Intel card can't. Atheros has excellent power management. When it's in an environment where Intel and Atheros can see the network, the Atheros will consume less power. Have to agree with the above, bias and benchmar...

Yep, I recently tried getting my Wireless to work as well, and the driver is far from a finished state. Gave this another shot, and I still do not have the options to clear the chip, even with a complete reinstall/uninstall of CSS8. The options are still the same:

Enable/Disable/Inactivate Security Chip
Security Reporting Options

Ditto. Mine is the same way... I think that this is largely due to the fact that the base is so light. The only significant weight is your battery, which is on the back--if it was on the front like some of the Asus notebooks, I doubt you would have this problem.

After some time on a 14"WS T61 w/Vista, 6. The system gets VERY VERY hot when in the BIOS setup utility. Once Vista boots and power management kicks in, it's nice and cool, except that the right palm rest gets pretty warm (it's over the hard drive). I made the mistake of using the system on my legs...

This may be deviating a bit from the original topic, but I think its all tied in. Gparted reports that it is, indeed, a NTFS partition, and doesn't return any errors. F...
