Re: X220 upgrade to 16GB RAM. Tipps

Last year I bought from this memory kit from Amazon: Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3/DDR3L 1866 MT/s (PC3-14900) Unbuffered SODIMM 204-Pin Memory - CT2K102464BF186D and installed this kit in my X220 (bios version 1.26). I works just fine, and runs at full speed (as verified by CPU-Z). From what I've r...

Re: it it ever cost-effective to replace a used ThinkPad's screen?

In my experience, it is somewhat easier to replace the entire display lid, rather than just the display panel itself. Unless you are contemplating a custom upgrade, a used display lid should be a good option. I am not familiar with the details of the T420, but I do know the T42 was offered with at l...

Did you try the VoiceMeeter Desktop App? Connect your headset via bluetooth, then on the Windows Volume Icon choose VoiceMeeter Input. From there, using the VoiceMeeter Desktop App, choose the A button under Virtual Input, and on Hardware Out choose A1 and try the various options such as: WDM Headph...

Using Voice Meeter on my X280 with Windows 10, I am able to increase the volume somewhat above what I get otherwise. My Plantronics BackBeat FIT bluetooth headphones are actually play quite loud this way.

Re: How to connect to 4G LTE from a thinkpad?

The 4G modem manufacturer may have connection software to use. Check the manufacturer's website. Also check Lenovo's website for your model ThinkPad's driver page for modem drivers and possible software. I used to use Sierra Wireless software with my Sierra Wireless cellular modem. I have not needed...

Re: x230 bricked after bios update?

I have skipped BIOS update versions in the past and never had a problem with a BIOS update so far. I always update using the Bootable CD version. You might try removing all power (AC, main battery & CMOS battery), hold the power button down for a minute or so, replace the batteries and AC power, and...

Re: T42 wifi problems, can I use an external network adapter?

You might consider a network extender. I use a Netgear AC1200 | EX6150 v2 network extender in my home. I see that it is not the top-rated network extender, but it works well for me. These do not require a wire, only an electrical outlet to plug into. Here is some ratings of network extenders: https:...

Re: SD card not detected & can't update BIOS

Try the bootable CD version of the BIOS update - if you are able. The link is on the page you listed above.

Personally, I always use the bootable CD version over the Windows version. I believe it is more reliable and less apt to brick your laptop.

Re: "ME is in recovery state" Appears when I boot my X220

According to the following post, this is likely caused by corrupted firmware. Sometimes removing all power such as what you did above will fix the problem. I have not seen this message before on my X220, but I did have to remove all power such as you did to resolve boot up problems. https://www.dell...

If it the problem devices are showing up in Device Manager, try looking under Details > Property > Hardware ID's for each problem device. Then try googling the numbers to find out what the device is.

Re: My new X280 just arrived!

I do prefer the keyboard of the X220 over the X280. The X280 keyboard is physically smaller. The X220 keyboard is 11-1/4" wide and 4-3/4" deep (not counting the Volume, Mic, ThinkVantage and Power buttons). The top two rows on the X220 include the F1-F12 row, End, and PgDn keys, larger ESC and Delet...
