Re: Got a nice 760ED...

Finally I managed to open the caddy. Mine still has the original IBM sticker so I had to cut the sticker in parts to get the cover off. To my surprise the HDD inside is a 12.7mm IDE... so I cannot just put it in my 600E to install an OS and must go get a IDE-USB connector. :? btw I thought 701C has ...

Re: [*HUGE PICS*]Thinkpad 555BJ - The Printer Thinkpad!!!

Could anyone here contact IBM or Lenovo on behalf of me? Both of them offer only support through phone call, but I am in China and international phone calls from here can be very complex and expensive. :(

Yes you are right Tasurinchi  I have already see both...and many others from searching in google.co.jp. Now I know the exact IBM publication number for the HMM is SY88-3041-00. I have sent requests to IBM and InfoCreate (a Japanese company that produced publications for IBM Japan) for the HMM....

To ilakast: Great! Exactly what I need! So now add 555BJ to the 40W list please :) To all: I am now having trouble finding such things like HMM. Lenovo Japan didn't give me a acceptable answer. :? I am trying to contact some Japanese Thinkpad collectors. If anyone here lives in Japan, I would be ver...

Re: Any 555BJ or 330C in the forum?

Bad news friends :( I am sorry to say that, but my 701C had its entire LCD assembly broken off during recent use, so I must work on repairing it now. The previous owner/maintenance crew used glue to repair a crack near the left hinge, and excessive glue went into the hinge, therefore jamming the hin...

Both of course! I wished I could get both too! Re: 755CDV blank screen, doesn't boot

The error code I9990305 is nothing to worry about. It's "No bootable media". It is expected as you removed the hard disk. And with nothing to boot from the machine can only hang. You can get past the RAM count? Without hitting Esc while it is counting and got the correct "7808KB OK"? Then your onboa...

Any 555BJ or 330C in the forum?

Just saw two vintage thinkpads for sale in the local market. A 555BJ(the one with bubble jet printer) and a 330C(the non-black one). Both in working condition and at the same price, CN¥680, i.e. about $110. Saving money now...not enough spare money now :( Both rare machines....I have tried searching...

Re: 755CDV blank screen, doesn't boot

No picture but backlights on ---> loose connection of the LCD panel suspected. Try reseating the panel. Needs to take the machine apart. Stuck at RAM count --> bad memory chips and/or unsupported RAM type. Try booting without any RAM cards in the RAM slot. If the problem remains, you might need to r...

Re: 600E hangs at thinkpad logo screen

Thanks for reply. With 32MB PC100 it works. I tried three PC133S 256MB cards, even when two of them are installed the 600E can detect both correctly, but any combination of 256MB cards (one or two) results in nothing more than a hung-up condition.

Re: 380ED display corrupted after attempting to add RAM

If you connect it to an external monitor and can still get correct image, then the motherboard is still fine. Your 380 has not died yet. Most possible explanation is that there are some loose connections on the LCD connector. Or the inverter card may be defective. Both need you to take the machine a...

600E hangs at thinkpad logo screen

During booting process, my 600E hangs at the "IBM thinkpad" logo screen. When it reaches the logo screen, it shows a few more hard disk activity, then everything stopped working. Backup/CMOS battery is a fresh one. Tried various combinations of bootable floppy and hard disk with no luck. Help! Sorry...

Hey guys! I have just got the 600E a fresh CMOS battery. Both good news and bad news. Good news is, the CMOS battery works as it should, errors 161 and 163 no longer appear. Bad news is, the 600E still hangs at the "IBM Thinkpad" logo screen. Now this seems to be the new problem. I have tried differ...

Re: Got 600E...strange beep symptom...need help

I just checked its FRU number...it's 02K6815, an 16V/3.5A adapter likely for the X series. With 3.5A rating it should be okay. Tried to boot on AC only but still showed the previous symptom. Now wait for the CMOS battery to come and see if it works. ----------------------------- UPDATE: I tried to c...

Re: Got 600E...strange beep symptom...need help

It is a 701C AC adapter. AFAIK, the amps rating shown on adapters are the max current they can withstand without melting. This may explain why it works.

Waiting for a fresh CMOS battery and a fresh main battery now. (The current main battery has a cracked case but luckily it doesn't leak)

Got 600E...strange beep symptom...need help

I picked up a 600E from my IT teacher's office as a "useless junk" for free today. Fortunately it is complete with every parts except for the ultrabay drive. Coincidentally I have a spare ultrabay FDD, so I installed it, and the 600E looks pretty good now. Plug in the AC power using my 701C's adapte...

Thank you for your help Tim82.
