Re: X60T - 1 DIMM slot dead

Not much you can do at this point, I'm afraid. It could be anything, like a bad solder joint on the RAM slot, failed electronic component (like a capacitor) somewhere between the RAM slot and the northbridge, or even a bad solder joint on the northbridge chip itself. :? So doing reflow should fix i...

Re: And another reason to avoid Micro$haft's W10

Why should the end of support for W7 discourage anyone from using it on classic Thinkpads even after 2020? Some people subscribe to the notion that one day after Microsoft officially announces that it will no longer release patches for a system, it will automatically be attacked by 100 different ty...

X60T - 1 DIMM slot dead

Hi, one slot on my X60T appears not functioning correctly - with any RAM in it, laptop produces 4 short beeps (motherboard failure). The other slot works perfectly fine. I checked the slot for any cold solder joints and couldn't find any, I also cleaned the slot with pure ethanol - still the same th...

So the fan for X60 is compatible with X60T's fan assembly?
If that's the case I found one locally.

BTW, congratulations on your promotion.

Which fan for 41V9748?

Hi,
fan unit in my recently purchased X60T died. Is there a suitable replacement just for the fan and not the entire assembly?
Thanks

Re: T500 - High CPU usage after wake up (WinXPx64)

Sorry for delayed response on the matter. After one more clean reinstall it's now clear there is a compatibility issue with the bare system. Seems that XP x64 is not the way to go for T500. Compatibility-wise though I haven't had any sort of issue on HP 2530p, 2560p, 2570p, 8470p and desktop based o...

Re: OS's on T42

I actually got my retro-gaming T42 for twice the price of R60e  But it's worth it in my case as I'm running 98SE (on 1280MB RAM) and R60+ doesn't work with it. PM me if any of you need old, still uncluttered and light version of Power Manager for WinXP (taken from R60's OEM set, mid-2006). Last...

T42's MB/Screen swap with R51 - possible?

Hi there again! I got my hands on R51 in great condition and seeing that it's not that different from 15" T42 in terms of port placement (only IEEE1394 is missing on T42), is it possible to fit T42 Mobo inside R51 chassis? The T42 is pretty beaten up, but has great graphics (Radeon 9600) and 15" 140...

T500 - High CPU usage after wake up (WinXPx64)

I'm experiencing annoying issue on freshly installed WXP x64 with loaded drivers - the CPU usage after wake up is very high. Task manager didn't reveal specific process causing this, the load is divided among multiple processes with taskmgr.exe taking nearly 30% of it. XP is installed on top of iast...

T42's FlexView in R60 - possible?

Hi,
is it possible to transplant 15" 1400x1050 FlexView screen from broken T42 into Lenovo R60 which has classic XGA 1024x768? Do I need different display cable?
I have found several threads on this, but none of them had conclusive answer.

Thanks in advance!

Re: GPU upgrade for T42

T60 or newer is the minimum hardware specs for daily use for me. A SSD in a T60 with X1400 can be had for only a few $$ more than a T42 but is still usable as a daily driver. T42 is the last Thinkpad (not counting T42p) compatible with Win98SE and WinME, with all the drivers provided by Lenovo. For...

It wasn't my intention, but I couldn't choose the GPU and without upgrading, the laptop is useless to me. The seller had just this model available, and in fact I wasn't able to find any T42 with 9600 on sale.

Re: GPU upgrade for T42

If it was new-in-box, I couldn't fathom tearing it apart like that. I'd rather use it as-is or sell it as a collector's item. It is still new in box, but it was Christmas gift from me to myself, so yes, I'm going to open it. Yes it has a historic value for sure, but what use does a laptop have when...

GPU upgrade for T42

Hi, I got myself IBM T42, new in box, but as I found out Ati Radeon 7500 does not provide any sort of video acceleration at all and doesn't support anything newer than DX7. So I'm in need of a new motherboard with Radeon 9600 - found one with P/N 27K9981. My laptop is 2373Y3L and 14.1 XGA screen, no...

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad T400 - DVD CD RW Optical Disk Drive AD-7

It's probably the best idea - get yourself HDD caddy instead of DVD drive - no idle consumption (DVD drive adds about 1.5W) and 2nd HDD really comes in handy. External DVD drive is probably the best solution - choice is wider, my recommendation would be LiteOn eTau108 slim drive

Re: T400 - which screen brand to get?

So I did buy LP141WP2 only to find that it's not compatible with the LCD cable I'm now using
Original screen was LP141WX5 and used thick 30 pin cable.

LP141WP2 uses thin 40 pin cable
Could someone points me to specific Part Number for that cable, prefferably WITH Thinklight and no camera?

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad T400 - DVD CD RW Optical Disk Drive AD-7

My point was to test whether it's not software-related (that's why I asked for live bootable media) :) Anyway best drives are always Liteons, sadly they don't make any laptop drives, however there's compatible part Panasonic UJ-862s for Lenovo Tx00/Wx00. LG make great screens, but terrible drives - ...

Re: Is DDR3L-1600 compatible with a T500?

To my knowledge, Tx00, Wx00 and Xx00 models does not support DDR3L specification (I'm purchasing RAMs for my T400 as well), however DDR3L are in general more stable than regular DDR3 at 1.5V (they need to meet strict criteria), so by getting these you'll lose nothing, though they are a bit more expe...

I have a spare LED screen for T400, though I probably don't meet the forum criteria (post count) to be able to sell it to you.
There are 2 types of LID, with and without space for inverter, don't remember the part numbers now, but you'll need the second one

OK, thanks a lot. Wattage is measured both ways - software through Power Manager and RMClock and also amperage on 20V input, lastly thermal dissipation of the ATi card (though that's rather an estimation). Measuring amperage on 230V IN would be very inaccurate due to power supply's average ef...

You know, 3 watts would be totally OK by me, as I am trying to say this whole thread . However 10W is way too much. And even if iGFX is "on", it shouldn't have any measureable impact on consumption. If that was true, then how come HD3470 equipped laptops such as disassembled Acer on my workplace doe...

Re: T400/W500 - Enormous idle consumption on dedicated graph

Those are just about the figures I'm getting - about 20W on that brightness being sitting duck. The reason for me is simple - efficiency. 4500MHD is not really optimized for 3D games no matter their requirements, a dedicated alternative should consume even less power than integrated as it's optimize...
