Re: New P73 trying to connect to external monitor via Thunderbolt
Speaking of a Dell WD19 dock, does anyone have any experience connecting a Thinkpad X140E to it? There's 2 monitors and a 130 power supply with the dock. I'm not sure how to go about it, which connection to use, maybe I need an adapter. Thanks.

Re: Battery rebuilder for 24V unit, in Toronto, Canada?
See this for an example: https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?p=786680#p786680 Dewalt seems to make batteries for most things. OTOH, that machine seems to be rather problematic: https://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/ctire-yardworks-toronto-ontario-c84682.html It might be cheaper in the en...

Re: Battery rebuilder for 24V unit, in Toronto, Canada?
I did a quick search on the numbers your provided and came up with a battery similar to the one in this video. https://youtu.be/K9sf2xJR8iE Does that look about right to you? If so, those are off-the-shelf at any decent battery supplier and you only need your measurements. You may even have some wi...

Re: Battery rebuilder for 24V unit, in Toronto, Canada?
If it's very heavy like ya say, then it may be an old lead acid battery inside a case of some sort. Take some pics of the battery and some measurements too. It may be a simple case of getting a generic drop-in replacement. I do hope that's the solution, my mum would like to keep her mower! The batt...

Battery rebuilder for 24V unit, in Toronto, Canada?
I'm having no luck finding a replacement battery for my Mom's rechargeable lawnmower, so thought I'd ask you knowledgeable Thinkpadders for advice or a referral to someone who can rebuild such a battery, if that's possible (I've heard of rebuilding Thinkpad batteries, so figured it was worth a shot)...

Re: Significant temperature rise while using docking station
Try leaving the cover open slightly while in the dock? That's what I do. Though I haven't measured the temps, it does feel a bit cooler. I'd be curious to see what the temps say if someone measures them with the lid open vs. closed.

Thank you, RBS. It seems it's a Power-on password, then. I'll dig the machine out and see if there's anything I can do following those instructions. I'll let you know.

X60S password locked?
I bought an X60S tablet a while back. It worked great, until the CMOS battery died. Then, I discovered there was a boot-up (supervisor?) password on it. The seller doesn't know the password! Now, I can't boot the machine past the start-up screen that asks for the password. Is this the dreaded superv...

Works fine, but I never use it. The only issue is that the keyboard is "sticky" and I don't know why (I got the machine 2nd hand). But I suppose you can replace the keyboard or use an external one. Has all original parts, as far as I know: CD player, HD, battery. CMOS battery was even still good, la...

Enter the BIOS on startup to shut off the beeps (alarms): 1) push the power button to start (or restart) 2) push the blue ThinkVantage button quickly (unless you get another option for how to enter the BIOS) 3) Find the ALARMS section, should be under CONFIG 4) Disable all the alarms. 5) Save the ne...

Which TPs would this RAM work in, is there a RAM lookup resource?
I pulled some old RAM, 4 x 1GB of pc2 5300s, out of a non-Thinkpad laptop. Re: Good Free Antivirus
Been using ClamWin Free Antivirus for on-demand scans and Online Armor firewall. Seem good and quite light. I have MSE on some machines and find it good.
I used to use AVG and Zonealarm, but they got crappy, and bloated and needed to get paid, especially ZA with too many popup advertisements.

Re: 760ED still has a use...
I fired this machine up tonight (760EL) and it booted to Win98 just fine. I leave it plugged in when not in use, which may or may not extend the CMOS battery, (I believe it does, but on some ThinkPads this didn't seem to hold true). But the CMOS battery is still fine in any case. Still have the issu...

The R31 is working well now with updated drivers, browsing the Web (wireless card, Ethernet and USB cell phone connections all work) and doing email with XP and the latest FF. The power management issue is solved and it can sleep. It had only one 256 RAM card in it and was a bit sluggish. I found an...

Re: OS for 600
Yes, first USB support was added in Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2.1 (aka Windows 95b/c). Main issue with pre-2000 Windows is that you often/usually needed to install drivers for the devices you plug in. Newer versions have most of the basic drivers included. Copied from another thread on 600X US...

Re: OS for 600
Windows 98 should have support for USB controllers; a 600 has a built-in USB 1.1 port. I think W95 shipped early on without USB support. Several questions: - If you know, what was used to install the OS? Factory or retail version? - What is reported by Device Manager for Universal Serial Bus contro...

I just got my R31 "back on the road" with XP pro SP3 (tried Puppy Linux Wary and it worked, but I needed XP for some apps). Yes, the unit does get hot quickly, on the underside, and the right palm rest...so, there is something going on. I will take it apart and have a look, thanks for the tips.
