Re: Windows 10 on W510: What works and what doesn't?

Trust me, I looked everywhere in Windows and even in the BIOS. There was nothing in the BIOS and it was as if to Windows 10 it did not exist. I installed multiple drivers for both Bluetooth and the Fn keys but nothing worked. The only option was to temporarily go back to Windows 7, which is a big ov...

Re: Windows 10 on W510: What works and what doesn't?

OK - so I've managed to solve the problem. Here is what I did: The story with this computer is that it originally came with Windows 7. I purchased it from a company but had to provide my own Windows license. I chose Windows 10, swapped the hard drives, and did a fresh install. On Windows 7, everythi...

Re: Windows 10 on W510: What works and what doesn't?

No, it's not showing as a hidden device - nor do I see anything unknown in the list. In Windows 7, I would press Fn+F5 to open the Wireless menu and I could enable and disable it there - but in Windows 10 I haven't been able to get the Fn keys to work so I can't bring that menu up. I think I need a ...

Re: Windows 10 on W510: What works and what doesn't?

No, I can't see it in the device manager. I know this laptop has Bluetooth as when it was running Windows 7, I could use it just fine. I've been trying to find a Windows 10 driver but with no luck. I've made sure that the Bluetooth service is enabled. When I run the Windows 10 troubleshooter, it tel...

Re: Windows 10 on W510: What works and what doesn't?

So I went ahead and installed Windows 10 on the W510 and everything works for the most part - except bluetooth. I can't pair any devices nor do I see any option to turn bluetooth on or off.

Any ideas? Seems like I'm missing a driver.

Windows 10 on W510: What works and what doesn't?

Hi guys, I might soon be purchasing a used W510 and am debating whether to freshly install Windows 7 on it or Windows 10 (I have licenses for both via MSDN). I know that Windows 7 is officially supported while Windows 10 is not. Ideally I would like to install Windows 10 but if things like the Fn ho...

W510 and Windows 7: Tap to right click?

Hello all,

I have an Lenovo W510 running Windows 7 Professional. I've configured the touchpad to tap on click but is there a way to enable something like double tap for right click like on newer laptops? I've been playing with the configuration but can't find anything.

IBM SK-8815 With Lenovo W510

I have a Lenovo W510 running Windows 7. I also have an older USB IBM SK-8815 keyboard that I would like to use with it. When I plug it into the laptop, everything works fine (even the volume and forward/back buttons) but the program hotkeys (Calculator, etc...) do not work. I've been looking for a d...

W510 Memory Upgrades

I have a Lenovo W510 with Windows XP 32 bit and 4 GB RAM (so only about 3GB used). I am planning to install 4x4GB of RAM and upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit (on a new hard drive). However, the new hard drive is not coming for a few days after the RAM. Is it OK to upgrade to 16GB RAM while still running ...

Thinkpad R51 and triple monitors

Hi everyone: I have a Thinkpad R51, Windows XP Pro, and a docking station. I normally have 1 external monitor hooked up to the docking station so I have 2 monitors total. I recently got another monitor and I was wondering if it's possible to hook it up to the VGA port on the laptop and have it work ...

Also, the Access IBM key does not work anymore...

Text on the screen no longer appears

I have an R51 running Windows XP.

Up until recently, the text that appears on the screen when I adjust volume, use the back/forward buttons, etc... no longer appears. I remember playing with this in some setting somewhere but I cannot find it anymore.

How can I turn this text back on?

How much is a new display?

At work, my company has assigned me an R51. I believe it's a 15". It's a great laptop but the only thing I can't stand about it is the max resolution is 1024x768. I know that other than replacing the LCD screen, nothing can be done. I was just wondering, how much would a new, higher resolution scree...

Thinkpad Mouse Driver for XP Pro

Hi everyone: I have a Thinkpad R51 I use at work and they gave me a black USB IBM optical scroll mouse. It works fine, however I would like to have the middle button click act as a double click, but I think I need a driver for the mouse to do this. Do any of you know what driver I need and where to ...

From the System Info text file:

Machine type-Model: 1836BAU

After some research, I'm beginning to think increasing my resolution is simply not possible. Under Advanced and Monitor, it says the screen is a 1024x768 one, my friend's says his is 1400x1050 or something similar to that...[/img]

Resolution Issues

I recently got a Thinkpad R51 with my job, as did several other people I know. The resolution on my laptop is stuck at a paltry 1024x768, while everyone elses Thinkpad is up much higher. Is there any way I can fix mine so it can display higher resolution? I know for a fact and have seen it possible ...
