x61t screen in x61
Search function yielded no relevant information AFAIK, so I apologize if there is. I am in an opportunity to purchase a malfunctioning x61t with a properly working display unit. Given that I remove the protective cover and goop underneath, use the modified cable for SXGA resolution and run middleton...

Re: How does the X60/X60s/X61/X61s fan fare under Linux?
I had an X60s briefly but decided to pass it on to family. I'm thinking again of one for myself having got used to using Debian 7 but I really don't like being stuck with a lack of real fan control and the noise. I returned a T43 where the fan just didn't go off, common apparently, and my own non T...

penny mod for consistent pressure. If there's any advice I can give you, never use coins as a material on a heatsink. Anyone who tells you to doesn't know what they're doing. Too much pressure, un-even surfaces, alloys with low thermal conductivity.... Use proper materials and you'll get better res...

X61 (7674) - Battery Issue
I have an X61 (Non-tablet 7674-VXV) that I use primarily for work related to documents only. I purchased this computer to be an ultra-portable and specifically grabbed the Penryn architecture for the increased battery life (should've grabbed LV in hindsight). PM tells me the battery health is 74Wh o...

Re: W530 Power Management 6.0 Fubar?
I find that some of the lenovo supplied management software doesn't work properly in some instances (or machines). Try re-installing the latest version of PM, 6.63.1 released last month. If all else fails, uninstall it and use windows' built in power management interface and install the Lenovo's PM ...

Just keep in mind that if you do decide to opt for the Samsung 840, it uses TLC NAND instead of MLC which may be an issue if you frequently transfer large volumes of data. AFAIK only newest 840 EVO series uses triple level cell flash while 840 and 840 PRO were using MLC NAND. http://www.tweaktown.c...

Try uninstalling the Thinkvantage Access Connection software from Lenovo and let Windows manage your wifi. I've had issues in the past with that on a T410.

Interesting.... Just got home and noticed one of my machines is on with the lid closed, same issue you're having. It was put to sleep roughly 12am the morning before. Here's my output from CMD: http://imageshack.us/a/img197/3509/fry.JPG For my machine, it attempted to resume from sleep (S3) and hibe...

Re: x230 Awake from Standby with Lid Closed
I would make sure you have Wake-from-Standby by Magic Packet/Wake-on-pattern match in BIOS or in your power management settings/adapter settings. I would also double-check msconfig to make sure you don't have any background applications disrupting the sleep process. Generally for this type of situat...

Got the caps in the mail the other day. They are genuine Lenovo and the classic domed caps made my X61 that much better!

Found: Dead T61/p and parts
After years of abuse, I feel it's time to restore my old friend, the T61p. It's an 8890-W95. 14.1" 4:3 model, it was dropped onto concrete a while back on my way back home. (Fell out of bag upon opening car door). Looking for these parts in order of interest; base-plate, keyboard bezel, lid with hin...

Re: x61s doesn't start (no beep codes) please advise! *PIC*
I had the same issue to this on an X61 two weeks ago. Turns out it was faulty RAM in the DIMM2 slot, placing it to the MAIN DIMM slot gave me beep codes.
If you have switched out DIMMs, my next best guess would be the DIMM slots itself - but that should give you the 1-3-3-1 beep code.

Re: X61T Performance: Do Memory Upgrade 4 > 8GB OR HDD > SSD?
I've ran Mint on X61T and loved it. YMMV. As for the SSD...Crucial M4 (Micron C400 as Lenovo calls it for their version of the drive), Samsung 830 or 840 Pro, Intel 320 series, even pre-SandForce OCZ drives. It's really about what you're looking to spend and how much space is required, but any of t...

Guess I just got a bit excited.
I ran that FRU and it comes back for a T60/T60p. Seller is giving generic answers and refusing to confirm or deny that image is not a T43 fan. :/

@afraidfuture: Peptate was talking about his own T61p , not about a T60. Sincerely apologize on this. I thought peptate was suggesting upgrading the CPU for T60 at the first beginning, sorry for my crappy English. Ah, my fault as well. I mis-read thinking we were talking about the t61. Sorry about ...

They are harder to maintence. I'll have to disagree with you on this one. IMHO once you disassembled enough thinkpads, they all start feeling roughly the same. A few extra screws doesn't discourage me. Replacing motherboards and backlight CFLs all stink equally across the generations. The hinges mi...

You might be right on this one, but i don't have a T6x and T4x from the same time, so i can't tell. It is hard to determine, but you might be right. But i haven't had any problem on my TPs. But ont he bottomline, both are extremely well build machines. I just can't get how the T4X is so much better...

Re: T60: Getting the best GPU termal performance
My T61p originally came with a T7700 (Memrom) and was replaced with a T8300 (Penryn) for $30 bucks a year ago if I remember correctly. 65nm to 45nm gave me a noticeable reduction in heat. Replaced the thermal paste with Prolimatech PK-1. Now idles at ~38C idle and 45C lightly browsing the interwebs....

Pinch me.... I've owned the t4x, t6x and the t4xx series. As much as I dislike using a Pentium M, I've been using it for the past year for school work because of the build quality. (Bar none, better than the t6x and far better than the t4xx series IMHO) And that keyboard is unmatched in every aspect.
