Re: Broken recovery partition - X:\preboot\utils\convert.cmd
That "Error 95.." hints towards the laptop not having the proper TYPE-MODEL-SERIAL info. Boot up, press F1 to go into the BIOS. There you should find the System serial info in the format All the info is visible in the BIOS and matches the numbers on the label attached to the laptop base. I think th...

Re: Broken recovery partition - X:\preboot\utils\convert.cmd
Fully restored to factory settings. Went almost without a hitch. Running the preloaded ThinkVantage System Update failed with the message "Error 95 received from the Package Index Server" and I had to manually install the latest version 3.14 from here . Then I left the laptop running a few hours as ...

Re: Broken recovery partition - X:\preboot\utils\convert.cmd
I rang support and told them about the error message. Stated I was trying to restore to factory settings because I suspected a virus on the machine. First person I spoke to asked me to run a hard drive diagnostic using a program from the Lenovo website and then call back with the result. I did this ...

Broken recovery partition - X:\preboot\utils\convert.cmd
Hello, I've just received my eBay purchased x61s. First thing I tried to do was a full recovery to factory settings. Pressing the thinkpad button during boot launches the R&R recovery area. However attempting to perform a recovery results in an error "Product Recovery could not find the file X:\preb...

Once the X31 reboots after loading the HPA, you have to select the "Access IBM" button and go into the rescue & recovery area, and THEN select RESTORE TO FACTORY CONTENTS. I'm doing that. (except on the x31 it's press F11 rather than the Access ibm button). After the HPA has loaded, it reboots and ...

HPA recreation fails with X30 hard drive upgrade
Hello, I'm trying to upgrade my X30 with a new 160GB Hitachi 5K160 hard drive. I'm having big problems getting the restore disks to recreate the HPA restore area. Has anyone successfully done this? The details: If I run the restore disk with the new HD completely blank (no partition table) then afte...

Be aware that some x30 models have a combined modem/wifi minipci card. If you have one of these there is no official wifi upgrade path which doesn't involve loosing the faxmodem, "finch" claimed in this thread that the X30 will work with an X31 bluetooth/modem communications daughter card.

Well, you can use a BMDC card for your thinkpad, but you have to install an additional BT antenna or use one of the two Wireless antenna. No, as I said my x30 already has built in bluetooth. The problem is that in the X30, unlike the rest of the X series ibm chose to use a combined modem/wifi mini-...

X30 with X31 BMDC card?
Hello, I have an x30 (2672-4HU) with bluetooth and the Wireless/modem combo mini-pci card. Everything runs fine, except I cannot use access connections as it doesn't properly work with the minipci card. There is very little info about this card on the ibm website - the drivers are available but it d...
