Re: Unaccounted-for battery draw on X210?

AFAIU, capacity is reported by the battery itself, and is subject to the aftermarket battery BMS wonkiness and generally poor quality of the cells themselves. > 8.6Ah nominal I don't believe such batteries exist on the market these days. Probably 6-7A*h, the usual capacity of cheap LiIon 18650 cells...

Re: Recent kernels demolish power saving on the X210

Does the r8169 Ethernet driver provide proper power saving on 5.4+ tho? r8168 seems to be dead now and only builds for 5.3. r8168 builds with 5.4+ kernels with this patch: https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree/kernel-5.4.patch?h=r8168-dkms r8169 still doesn't enable aspm, but that can be chan...

Okay, it was ME that have [censored] itself somehow; reflashing its region with its original firmware have fixed the problem.

X210 optimal BIOS settings

The default BIOS settings are really messed up on X210 (https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=125573&start=90#p840315) Here's what i figured to be more sensible: Enable EFI boot (faster and sometimes more convenient than legacy BIOS boot): If you don't need to use BIOS boot: Advanced → CS...

X210 is 16:10, and with the taskbar [censored] moved to the side it's effectively 3:2.

Re: X210s

After enabling L1 substates for M2 NVMe Linux no longer sees it in lspci. You also need to set a custom CLKREQ number to 4. The CLKREQ number is 1 for PCIe port 4, and 0 for ports 1 and 2. Setting this number is a requirement to enable L1 substates. Thank you, it worked! I wonder why wasn't all thi...

Re: X210s

The most glaring issues are the lack of ALPM for NVMe drives and a nasty SATA controller issue which renders drives unreadable after resuming from suspend, requiring a hard reboot. I don't have these. The sata controller resumes ok, and nvme ASPM can be turned on in the bios: you have to manually s...

Re: X210 embedded controller fixes (was: X210 EC datasheet/better brightness control)

Idea for an EC patch: currently the battery LED blinks green when the battery is almost discharged and blinks orange when it's charging from such a state; it should be the other way around to bring attention when it should.

Re: Where to get high current 5V and 12V on X210?

For 5V, I'm guessing the usual 500mA current limit applies if it's drawn from USB, unless the internal / PCIe ports don't regulate that properly? I've managed to shutdown my X210 by attaching [censored] to USB power leads, so probably the current limiter doesn't work as good as it should have worke...

Re: Where to get high current 5V and 12V on X210?

Hi all- I just picked up this guy for experimentation, but I still need to power it. It comes with an adapter that looks like it pins out the standard Molex 4-pin, so it appears to consume both 5V and 12V. I'll try to measure the SATA connector one of these days to see if it has 12V, but I doubt it...

Is it possible to set the bat thresholds with EC? If you want to undercharge the battery to prolong it's life, then it may be done already. :-) At least my laptop is constantly undercharging the battery by several parcent. My X210 charges the battery to 4.16 per cell, while ~4V ceiling during typic...

Re: X210 embedded controller fixes (was: X210 EC datasheet/better brightness control)

I've brought up some infra for comfortable patch selection and application: https://github.com/l29ah/x210-ec
It would be cool if you submit your patches/pull requests to avoid throwing lots of differing and poorly documented blobs around that bring a lot of changes and are a pain to merge.

I get 3.8W on lowest backlight and associated wifi. 3.5W with deassociated. All the ASPM is enabled, but i still never reach pc9 and pc10.
Out-of-tree r8168 module is necessary for ASPM support.

Re: X210 embedded controller fixes (was: X210 EC datasheet/better brightness control)

No. The EC just reads a temperature and sets PWM. It has nothing to do with throttling. See code: Silly me, of course throttling is done by other means. But nevertheless it's really fishy that sensors jump from 7*->100*C. Something is wrong here, and I don't know what is responsible for this, as ea...

Wired, not wireless. Network manager somehow enables powersaving on wired network even when the interface is up, but there is no connection and reenables it after waking from suspend.
