Re: 51nb x210 or x2100 Linux TLP battery threshold

No, there's no such feature in the 51nb EC firmware, and there's no easy way to add it as there's no sources available.

Re: X210 CPU cooling improvement options?

Meanwhile i've repasted my cooler with GD900. Output of https://github.com/l29ah/intel-powermon drawn with gnuplot during 10 minutes of `mprime -t`: https://tinystash.undef.im/il/3x6iqY1KdQ6NuWDkZJ4PqbcGX7PsDqWVkQKKb87gxA8ykTZdEt4kzLPSPvRXrxujudn3c7ABzV8mUM7aiuQzR7pX That's it, 23W at the end with m...

Re: X210 embedded controller fixes (was: X210 EC datasheet/better brightness control)

Sorry, I guess I wasn't very clear. Here's a screenshot of what I see now, on average. So you're saying the estimated number is just bogus? With the i915 patch + the new EC I was able to see the display backlight wattage drop from about 6W (before mod + EC) to under 3W if I got lucky but obviously ...

Re: X210 embedded controller fixes (was: X210 EC datasheet/better brightness control)

Finally had time to play with the power saving stuff. Patched the i915 and uninstalled WiFi for testing - now powertop reports between 3-4W, which is nice. However, it also says "Battery reported" power draw is around 12W, at the same time that two lines down it says 4W. Shouldn't they be the same,...

Temps reach 90C+ after a few minutes, but it does manage to keep the frequency at or near 3.9Ghz until that time. Now the dissipation is around 32W.
This is awesome! What kind of cooling setup do you use? Do i get it right it's 20-ish°C outside?

BTW you have a letter "R" stuck to your messages. It's my first initial :D As far as the throttling, I can't seem to make it work right. My temps hover around 81-85C running "sysbench cpu run --threads=9 --time=600", but it still throttles to 3.5Ghz and dissipation is around 25W. I've set TDP UP in...

OLED display on X210?

I see that laptops with OLED displays started to pop up. Is it possible to retrofit a replacement OLED display in X210 without much extra tinkering? At the first glance though, the displays are usually 16:9 while X210 has a 16:10 one. Maybe Dell's new XPS 13 2-in-1 one would fit?

Re: IBM Thinkpad Battery Re-Celling Battery Rebuild Tutorial

Just recelled an aftermarket 9cell X201 battery. The case had to be vandalized to open up and then fit the bulky 18AWG wires in, so now it's holding on duct tape. I should have made and used a cell welding device instead probably, since the nickel strips are so much thinner.

By the way, do you update intel microcode? I tried, and it made the machine unstable and hanging/rebooting at heavy loads. Good catch. X210 optimal BIOS settings

The default BIOS settings are really messed up on X210 (https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=125573&start=90#p840315) Here's what i figured to be more sensible: Enable EFI boot (faster and sometimes more convenient than legacy BIOS boot): If you don't need to use BIOS boot: Advanced → CS...

Re: X210s

After enabling L1 substates for M2 NVMe Linux no longer sees it in lspci. You also need to set a custom CLKREQ number to 4. The CLKREQ number is 1 for PCIe port 4, and 0 for ports 1 and 2. Setting this number is a requirement to enable L1 substates. Thank you, it worked! I wonder why wasn't all thi...

The most glaring issues are the lack of ALPM for NVMe drives and a nasty SATA controller issue which renders drives unreadable after resuming from suspend, requiring a hard reboot. Idea for an EC patch: currently the battery LED blinks green when the battery is almost discharged and blinks orange when it's charging from such a state; it should be the other way around to bring attention when it should.

I've managed to shutdown my X210 by attaching [censored] to USB power leads, so probably the current limiter doesn't work as good as it should have worke...

Hi all- I just picked up this guy for experimentation, but I still need to power it. It comes with an adapter that looks like it pins out the standard Molex 4-pin, so it appears to consume both 5V and 12V. I'll try to measure the SATA connector one of these days to see if it has 12V, but I doubt it...
