Re: Possibly missing SMD resistor on X210 board
A few quick follow-up questions from the guy working on my board (summarized as best I can - please excuse any misunderstandings on my part): * Was the BIOS chip still in circuit (i.e. on the motherboard) when resistance values were measured? * Did you use a standard multimeter or a 4 wire resistan...

Re: Possibly missing SMD resistor on X210 board
My mobo seems to have the same layout as bcn's. R480 is measured to have 10kOhm. Just in case it's renamed, I've verified that it connects pin 3 (WP#) to pin 8 of the flash chip. Also, R488 is 28Ohm and connects pin 3 to something else, likely the EC. Many thanks for checking. I have passed this on...

Re: Possibly missing SMD resistor on X210 board
So TL;DR: Can anyone with access to an X210 board please check component R480 (near the BIOS chip)? My mobo seems to have the same layout as bcn's. R480 is measured to have 10kOhm. Just in case it's renamed, I've verified that it connects pin 3 (WP#) to pin 8 of the flash chip. Also, R488 is 28Ohm ...

Heh, I was actually gonna say that I'd be willing to sponsor anyone willing to go to the trouble of checking this for me. Is that something you'd consider, for a reasonable donation over PayPal or something? If not, it does sound as though you know what you're talking about, so I'm inclined to trus...

Pi is a poor choice since its hardware is not going to beat X2100 any time soon wrt performance and driver support.

Re: Possibly missing SMD resistor on X210 board
I'm too lazy to disassemble my precious X210 and measure it for free, but according to datasheet and your crappy photos it's likely just a pullup for WP# of the SPI flash, so whatever under 1MOhm can be plugged and work. Or ignored altogether if you don't need the flash chip written by the X210.

Re: X210/X2100 embedded controller fixes (was: X210 EC datasheet/better brightness control)
Do you need to patch the BIOS to get working EFI on the X210? I noticed today that the BIOS reports UEFI 2.x but I've tried to boot off both USB drives and hard drives that have a EFI partition -- both do not boot either presenting a black screen or an error "enter a proper boot device". Only boots...

I think the best you can do is to check out the BIOS reverse engineering thread and adjust the fan intensity steps to your taste via binary patching.

Re: X2100 won't turn on, makes chirping noise
Well, this is an interesting outcome. Supplying voltage to the EEPROM VCC pin makes my Raspberry Pi turn off, probably for self-protection. A meter shows about 7K ohm resistance between VCC on the flash chip and ground. This is. . . lower than I would expect. (A reference BIOS chip in a different b...

Did anyone get it working? I don't even see such a device in ALSA (inserting snd-hda-codec-hdmi module manually does nothing).

Re: Thinkpad T700 i7-10710 private project
I'm willing to pay big bucks for an upgraded X301 motherboard. Intel just released a "Pentium Silver N6005" that seems to fit the bill perfectly. 4 cores @ 10W TDP. Seems less expensive / easier than your T700... I mean, I don't think intel cares that much for the low end product lines. They are pr...

I've replaced my panel data ribbon and now it works ~fine. Is it plausible that the ribbons of two different screens work well and then go bad at the same time? Re: x210 screen connector gone?
I've replaced my panel data ribbon and now it works ~fine. Out of interest - is it some standardish ribbon? Or is some rework specific to X210/X2100? Standard. So, my x210 started doing this: https://imgur.com/a/ESgI4jz If I move the lid back and forth the picture comes and goes. Happens with the 3K screen AND with the 1200p one, which flickers like hell. That makes me think of a bad connector on the mainboard rather than bad cable(s). What should I do? :...

Poked the usb data pins with a multimeter. Found a pin that is shorted to ground. Removed D10 in the hope that it's faulty, but no luck: the pin is still shorted. Couldn't find anything else i could poke before the wires go into the intermediate PCB layers.

X210 lower left usb port doesn't work
It doesn't respond when USB1/2 or USB3 devices are connected to it. The pins are clean, 5V is present, nothing pops up in dmesg when i plug anything in. What could be wrong with it and how could i figure out and fix it? A BIOS setting or hardware problem?

I have patched the EC firmware. Now brightness levels are 1%,2%,4%,8%,16%,32%,44%,48%,55%,60%,65%,70%,78%,84%,94%,99%. First 6 levels were replaced with more useful values. http://rgho.st/6rB9RGr88 Now power consumption is ~3.1W idle, offline, minimal brightness and only 2.8W with LCD off. It looks ...

Interesting idea. However, that doesn't really help my use case - I wanted to combine the two slots to get an x2 device. If I can't even get devices to work properly at x1 in the first slot, there's no use in taking the clock lines and making the other one into an x1 port either... R But it does he...

Re: Recently got X2100 from Jacky. AMA
Quick question: what are your thermal readings under the regular load? Are you using NVMe SSD or SATA 2.5"? I am using NVMe and it seems to be just on top of the CPU in x2100, so the front-left side of the laptop, under the palmrest, gets pretty hot, around 50-55 C for the CPU and up to 60 C for NV...

Re: X210 miniPCIe eGPU?
I doubt it. USB 3.x has extra differential pairs in it, separately from the regular D+/D- that are used in USB 2.0 (those are kept for "backwards compatibility"). You could maybe get a shielded USB 2.0 cable (which is a thing) though, that may help. Did you try the same method on the upper slot (af...
