Re: x100e wont start
When I encountered similar problems it was usually after an emergency shutdown by the BIOS (if I didn't have all the right drivers, such as if I ran FreeDOS); the solution always was disconnecting the CMOS battery so as to clear the CMOS and related things. (This is a major disassembly project, thou...

Re: X120e internal speakers problem
I've taken a look at the hardware maintenance manual. The speaker assembly is replaceable, but that doesn't look like it contains the DAC. Pc speaker sound (those beeps), still work just fine. The digital sound circuit that contains the DAC looks like it's directly on the motherboard and not replac...

Re: X120e internal speakers problem
Check the part number in the X100e/X120e Hardware Maintenance Manual.
That provides a full parts list and also directions for replacing every component.
I'm not aware whether this could be a software bug, but you might try updating the BIOS and drivers first...

Re: Thinkpads And Linux: Anything Good In The Sub $400 Range?
X100e runs hot but is otherwise ~good, including with the radeon driver. For "Thinkpad" wireless (Realtek) to work natively you need at least kernel 3.0, with CONFIG_RTLWIFI=m CONFIG_RTL8192SE=m Though there's a driver from Realtek. I use linux-phc and thinkfan; I suggest setting the fan speed to "l...

Re: Thinking about an X1?0e FrankenPad...
Am I missing something? Wouldn't it be easier and perhaps cheaper to just sell your X100e, then buy the X120e you want? For a few extra dollars, you could probably get a much more powerful X200. Plus, it probably runs cooler too and offers longer battery life. First, getting an X200: Not interested...

Thinking about an X1?0e FrankenPad...
I've got an X100e ThinkPad, which runs Linux...but is, of course, noisy and hot... I understand that the X120e is a bit cooler, quieter, and longer-lasting in battery life. What's more, the newer GPU can be used for OpenCL and VDPAU, with current Mesa. So, I'm pondering sticking an X120e motherboard...
